After Kurt Cobain died, I slowly lost interest in music as the boy-band era took over. I had a premonition I would fall in love with a band in the 2010's, but I had no idea it would be 5 Japanese female rockers. Then I discovered Band-Maid late to the party in 2018 while researching a trip to Japan. It's not just the tearjerker songs that get me, it's their whole range of emotions, from joy to angst to rage to grief to sadness. Thank you Band-Maid for making me believe in music again🕊️❄️🍌🥷🎸
The first time I saw the video for this song, I was okay. There was no translation. 2 days later, I saw it again with the translation. This 60 year old former Marine balled his eyes out, literally sobbing. These ladies that I already loved dearly, wrote their fans a love song in the middle of the pandemic and gave it to us as a gift even after their big day at Budokan was cancelled due to Covid. I will never stop loving this band and these amazing, wonderful ladies. Po!
Band Maid's commitment to the fans. First it was "Smile", then "About Us", followed by "Memorable" after the 2022 US tour. It's always been more than just the music and the band's commitment to Quality. It's also about that special relationship we have with Band Maid, based on mutual respect, admiration and compassion. ❤
It isn't onions, or dust in my eyes, it is Band-Maid's love that has me tearing up, and it happens every time I hear this. Especially from the first time I read Saiki's statement shortly after this was released. If you aren't a real Band-Maid fan you just can't understand.
If not for the pandemic, I might not have found Band-Maid because I wasn't much of a YT viewer till then. And without the Band-Maid music, the pandemic would have been a dark and perseverance time for me. I'm so happy that I found them!
BEAUTIFUL ! You've done it again Ohrenje ! I remember watching that live stream and even though I don't understand Japanese, I could honestly feel Saiki's emotions and got choked up and teary-eyed. Proof positive that Miku Kobato is a lyricist like no other on this Earth, and that she and the rest of the ladies have huge hearts when it comes to us fans. In all of my years and countless live concerts I've attended, there has never been another band that so openly and often shows their love and appreciation for all of us that follow them. I had the privilege of seeing this performed live at their first US Tour stop after the pandemic, and after the Aftershock Festival in 2022 at Seattle and as it did then, and still does today, brought tears to my eyes. I love Band-Maid, and always will !
The reason I love these ladies. they can put on a goofy persona and be over the top at servings, they can play the characters well, but here you see Saiki talking to the fans like you would a close personal friend no facade no "charm points" none of that, just a heart to heart during really difficult times. These ladies have beautiful souls and are a light in the darkness.
There is a nature in the songs that BAND-MAID wrote for their fans that reinforces solidarity. The reason is that they are musicians and close friends who share their souls with their fans. Right?
Band-Maid was our Sweet during this Bitter time. This is a wonderful show to go back and watch. Miku's backing vocals were spot on all night. Band-Maid made us all feel like we DO have hope and we'll get through this dark and evil time. They are truly good people and prove that time and time again and why I support them financially every chance I get as a way to pay them back for their talent and love they show towards us.
The funny thing is that everybody has forgotten about the official studio version (the one on the limited edition vinyl) - the live version instantly became the reference because it's so much better and emotional!
I discovered Band.Maid just a few months before the Pandemic. And they for sure helped me thru. It's also when the Warning and Lovebites got a hold of me. Was trying other stuff like Bridear, Mary's Blood, Scandal, etc, and none of them popped the way those other 3 bands did, for me. Band Maid and the Warning scratched two very differnet rock itches, and Lovebites tickled this old 80s metalhead no end. when the studio version of ABOUT US was released, I was not in love. Then they did played it during the Online Okyuji and I fell in love. It's one of my top 5-10 favorite Band Maid songs, live. So layered, and nuanced, so emotional. Ballads like this TBH are why I felt Bestie fell a bit flat.... About Us? Every time Saiki sings "Nostalgic" I tear up just a bit. And when she belts out "CRIES"? I obey my Queen. Thank you Orenje, as always for your dedication to chronicling this one of a kind band of amazing young women.
It's not often that you hear a song that feels like it's being sung to you personally. That's how I feel about this song, They were letting "ME" know that everything was ok and it would get better. Thanks Orenje for doing this. And also thank-you Akane, Kobato, Mincho, MISA & Saiki for helping all of us get through a tough time, you're an inspiration to us all.
They performed About Us at the Tokyo Garden Theatre. It hit me hard. As the world did not know the future, but here I was in Japan from the UK alive as were family. I got to meet other fans from over the future and fans I knew before. It was glorious. The only song from that period that affected me that much, was Kolme's I Live in Hope. I drew Blossoms trees from my front garden. I took the drawings to Japan as gifts. I drew at the TGT, no photos but drawing.
the song that continues to be my favourite. the first time I heard Saiki sing, tadaima (I'm home) I knew this song would be special to me for a long time to come
Man what a beautiful video, what a beautiful song, what a beautiful speech from Saiki... what a beautiful everything! lol About Us will always be a personal favorite of mine, there's something special about the songwriting and how both voices and music convey all the emotion... it's just the perfect song to FEEL
I wasn't ready for this one. Even though it's several years old, it still works on me just as much as it did on its release day. During their live concerts, when Miku says it's between my heart and yours, she means it. To the people who think that music is only temporary entertainment; that's okay, it can be. But, that's a rather shallow way to look at things. Here, in an empty studio, BAND-MAID went to all the trouble to reach out to their friends and fans to let them (us) know that they care. Not many bands write songs just for their fans. This is one who does, and who has. They would still be my favorite even if they didn't do things like this. And, no, I wasn't cutting onions. I think my allergies are acting up ... again. 💖🥲
We always want to believe that our favorite bands or musicians care about us or know that we exist. Growing up in the 60's & 70's there was so much good music that I loved but I never thought how any of those musicians at that time cared how I felt about their music. I'm sure they were happy that I bought their albums but I did not feel a personal connection. Band-Maid are totally different on many levels. In my opinion theses 5 ladies are true Samurai because they are so willing "to serve" us Master's and Princesses at every given moment. For those that do not know the term "samurai" comes from the Japanese word saburau, meaning "to serve". "About Us" to me conveys this sentiment. I am so happy to have found B-M back in 2016. It has been a great experience watching these 5 musicians revive my favorite genre of music, Hard Rock, and collaborate with other Rock bands like The Warning. I have been fortunate to have met many new friends from other States and Nations because of B-M. I have many more to meet hopefully soon. Friendships I appreciate and I will cherish until my days are done here on this planet. Ohrenje excellent programming by you and your team as usual. well done.
Thanks to Ohrenje and all involved. My Japanese journey didn't start with Band - Maid, It started with a song on Amy Lee 's curated playlist on Spotify "Sakura Rising" . It's a song by WagakkiBand that Amy did vocals on, and it was such a different sound so I decided to check them out. They are amazing and I could not believe I had never heard of them before. Needless to say, the path eventually led me to Band-Maid. I am still trying to figure out how Kanami can see everything in my mind that I had ever heard and mix and blend it all together and make songs that are exactly what I want to listen to. Every song is like I know them and it feels like I have heard them for years even though they are brand new.
Thank you Ohrenje, for sharing this! Band-Maid, their love for their fans, and the love we feel for them, is a special bond. This is the only band I have felt this passionate about.
Band Maid was the light in the darkness, I don't like remembering how are world was put on hold, but I remember the comfort BM gave me🥺❤ Well done Ohrenge, Kasper and all involved 👍
It took awhile to get a million views on the MV. As a true fan of the band, you should accept their gift to you even if the song genre is not to your liking. I thought there would be more true fans out there. It takes less than 5 minutes of your life to view their present.
During that tough time, that we were all going through, for these special women to open up their hearts to encourage us in a song. Wow. The love they have for their fans shone through brilliantly and brought a tear, or more - guy thing, and drew us even closer to the MAIDs. Ohrenje, ViiOlet, and the team - thank you for capturing that warm feeling we all felt then, and now.
to add a note, this is one of the only songs, where no one is smiling. even Akane who always has a smile was very serious.first time i hears this was back when it first came out. I missed the speech at the beginning. the song took on a whole new meaning after i heard the talk. after 10 yrs of listening, i cant get enough. thanks for this reminder of what Bandmaid means to US. Bandmaid for Life.
Damn you, Ohrenje! Making my eyes burn again! And yes, it's so important to remind us of this. I would have to say that "Daydreaming" had the biggest impact on me. The atmosphere and Kanami's solo hit me hard!
The moment I learned about the background of this song and listened to it again, it became my favorite song. No matter how many times I listen to it, no matter what time I listen to it, it brings tears to my eyes. I don't think there is any band that truly values their fans this much.
