These three were professional victims, they went to an unsafe country and put themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time.
A couple decades ago a co-worker of mine was in mexico surfing/camping with his wife and 2 teenage kids. At night 3 mexican men tried to rob them at knife point. He fought them off, took the knife away and they fled. One of the mexicans was killed and another injured.
My co-worker immediately drove back to San Diego and received medical attention for a severely cut hand.
Mexican authorities wanted him to return to Mexico for an investigation. Law enforcement officials in San Diego advised him not to, which is what he did and never went back.
