Herer's an updated fan gele tutorial but this time, I am using a 71" approximately 72 inches. This method will work for the regular asoebi gele that comes in 3 layers and usually short. This video shows how to tie the rounded fan Gele using 72" small Gele/Aso oke from the beginning to the end. I had so much fun creating this video. Hope you have as much fun watching.

Is your scarf too soft? That could be an issue. Try using pins to hold the fans and make sure each pleat sits on the previous one. Hope this helps.
