- The original Chinatown of Los Angeles was demolished in 1933 when Union Station was built. Two other "Chinatowns" were built in the late 1930s. "China City" was a short lived Chinese inspired area north of the original location, but a fire burned it down to the ground in 1948. The "New Chinatown" is what we have today and it was built in 1938. The main area of todays Chinatown is around Broadway. The boundaries creates a triangle in between the 110 freeway (West), LA river (East) and Cesar Chavez (South)
