Cummins X15 - How to check fuel restriction and test for air in fuel (aeration) Cummins CODE 559

  • This cummins engine would run rough and shut down intermittently on the customer.
    I performed a fuel restriction and aeration test after seeing code 559 for low fuel pressure in the fuel rail.
    Found a lot of air being sucked into the fuel system.
    Ended up being a bad fitting.

    Dealing with this right now, my gauge read -25 HG gonna see whats causing it tomorrow

      What i found was what appeared to be paper towel jammed up inside the thermo recirculation valve, had me pretty stumped for a bit because everything tested good, i pulled the line off and saw a bunch of brown paper towel jammed up inside. I work at a peterbilt dealer and the truck came back 3 times for the same 559 code.

      @@juanavila1611 thanks! It was coming from the line between hp pump and fuel module. Had a small split in it.

    How do you know how much solubilized oxygen and dissolved air is in the diesel fuel?

      @@ox-cetane4887 you see how much bubbles are coming from the line. There should be none. It should run clear.

      @@AcousticHills Indeed, ULSD has significant problems with fuel oxidation and air contamination in the ULSD itself and nobody is talking about it.
