Broner vs Theophane FULL FIGHT: April 1, 2016 - PBC on Spike

- (April 1, 2016) Four-division world champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner didn’t have much of a problem beating and stopping Ashley “The Treasure” Theophane at 1:10 in the ninth round in the main event of tonight’s Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on Spike event in front of a sold out crowd at the DC Armory in Washington, D.C.
At 26-years-old, Broner, who lost his 140-pound world title on the scale when he failed to make the bout’s weight limit, improved his record to 32-2, 24 KOs. The controversial fighter from Cincinnati, Ohio, displayed his strength and range of skills against a seasoned Theophane, whose record dropped to 39-7-1, 11 KOs.
Tonight’s show was promoted by About Billions Promotions and Mayweather Promotions in association with HeadBangers Promotions. Mayweather Promotions President Floyd “Money” Mayweather sat ringside throughout the evening to pay particular attention to the performances of Mayweather Promotions fighters including Theophane, Gervonta Davis and J’Leon Love, who fought on the undercard.
Broner came out in the early rounds showing his speed and versatility, only to be stymied by a game Theophane who showed his own array of boxing skills. Before long, Broner’s ring prowess proved to be too much for Theophane, as he landed power shots at will and began dominating. As Broner wore his opponent down it became easier for him to overpower Theophane and finally stop him in the ninth round.
"When people fight me, they come with their 'A' game, and he came with his 'A' game. But even his 'A' game wasn't enough tonight.
"As you know, I've been going through a lot and for me to come in here and bottle everything up and do what I did, I want to give myself a pat on the back.”
Theophane was disappointed and didn’t agree with the stoppage.
"I thought the stoppage was premature because I thought I was in the fight. Me and Broner were going at it. It looked like he was starting to get tired because he started to move around and wasn't able to stay there with me as much.
"I thought the fight was back and forth and I think the next four rounds would have been the same. No way should the fight have gotten stopped. It's a shame the referee did that. I was telling the referee, 'I'm okay, I'm okay.' Then he waived it off. I don't know what he was thinking."
Broner and Mayweather, who promotes Theophane, have been engaged in a war of words throughout the promotion. Broner challenged the 11-time world champion immediately following his victory.
"I'm a man, but at the end of the day, somebody that I look up to, someone that I admire took the chance to do an interview and talk bad about me. I'm a man - Floyd has got to see me.
"I come from nothing. I'm talking about water and Cornflakes. And I would never let a man disrespect me like that. So you gotta see me. I don't care if we're sparring or if we're fighting, let's get it on.
Mayweather did not address the comments.

We need a boxing game with ab , gotta put the head shaking when somebody miss in it too 😂
that would be tough
He got that from Floyd
😭😭😭
☠️☠️☠️🤣
@Kota Lz He didn't have a career before he met Floyd lol
*Can’t wait for AB return on February 20 on Showtime! It’s gon be refreshing to see the “Can Man” back in the ring!* 💯🥊👑
AB is one of the most frustrating guys to watch theophane is breathing heavily but broner just refuses to let his hands go he has the skill speed and power and just doesnt put it together like he should
All I can think of is that Broner has an unusual 'tick'; like a mental block in which he can only let a punch go when he feels the situation is ideal. It's like a frame of mind in which things have to be a certain way, like the positioning of his feet and the positioning of the opponent has to click to signal it's time to let a punch go. You can see him almost struggling mentally as if he wants to throw but he's somehow in a locked down frame of mind.
He followed Paulli around for 12 rounds in their fight, driving me and many others crazy I suspect because he couldn't force himself to let his hands go. He clearly had no fear of powder puff Paulli's shots, he was walking right through them for 12 rounds. He got a split decision but he barely threw enough punches to squeak by when in fact he should have beaten Paulli down similar to the way that Porter embarrassed him. It has to be a mental thing, that's all that I can think of......?
I agree he has many openings but don’t let his hands go . Just one shots a time , shits retarded
Broner power is suspect but I get what you mean
Definitely
Bro I thought I was only one who noticed that shit,it has to be mental
The guy is a good fighter if he focuses

Intense post fight interview by Broner. He and Floyd may be a boring fight, but I'm sure it would do very well in terms of PPV buys. If he and Pac managed to sell 400k in 2019, he and Floyd could've doubled that in 2016 (with some great pre fight interviews as the best part), when he still wasn't considered a bum.
Everybody has an opinion. That's fine. But regardless of what the armchair trainers think AB is a helluva fighter. One of my favorites. Be humble if you aren't a world class fighter. Be flamboyant if it pays. Fuck the haters.
How has that worked out for him? Whether you like it or not, the opinions were right.
@@ItsDJNuName So is the opinion of him being a world class fighter. Where has being right gotten his haters?
@@jahaudking4980 bro, everyone is not a hater. They see something wrong & are pointing it out. Y’all gotta stop this “haters” mentality. No one has the time or energy to do so for no reason. To keep the tops of his earlobes warm.
Besides Broner's heart his jab and footwork are very underrated.
Notice Broner is check left hook is the same as King Ryan just not as much power but thrown the same way.
What footwork?
@@truth294 Broner flat-footed.
If it's not difficult, rate the video on my channel about Floyd.
@@MrldgtLucaBrasi Broner is stronger than Ryan garcia
These early stoppages are really disrespectful to the fighters man, they want to make a show they want to show their heart he even signaled to the ref that he was okay and he still stopped it. Look: 35:04
Broner vs Mayweather please
I dont think people realize AB hits hard at the lower weight classes. would love to have seen AB vs. Danny garcia at 135/140
i think AB hits pretty hard in general, just doesn’t punch enough
at 135, he was definitely punching. Fighting Maidana at 147 definitely stunted his career.@@vonthegreat870
Broner came in heavy in this fight. .. Had to pay Theophane for the weight advantage
A half of a lb heavier

THE PROBLEM
Man ab got hands and got a good chin. He need to let his hands go.
....and as we now all know, floyd went-on the greatness as broner slowly self destructed.
33:35 “I SAID IM OKAY!!?” “no , no ok”
I was at this fight! Very dope environment that night! The Money Team was in full effect!
Pray to god AB lets his hands go in his upcoming fight
Did you like what you saw?
Till this day Floyd don't want to put money in his pocket. Logan over AB??.. 😩nahh. TookTank from him and said its just business. Hopefully Broner ko his upcoming opponent and call Floyd ass out again. Win or lose i just want that for Broner and that fight make sense. Mayweather owes him that. 4x division champion w/ Mayweather and Pacquiao on resume is the best.
Floyd knows ab might get a bit busy lmao
Jaguar let me say that if tank was with present day he be the boxer in history. Second AB wont promote tank the way May is. Third May don't own AB nothing and when they were both on top AB needed to take May advise at that time and who k ow could retire then party and drink while making money
AB is washed why waste time
Mayweather doesn't owe Broner shit.
Adrien Broner didn't want to fight Floyd Mayweather y'all, that was a April Fool's joke🤣🤣🤣🚫🥊
"At the end of the day"
AB was headed for greatness until they set him up. How the hell did Maidana get to be so hard hitting but couldn't knock out Amir Khan. Boxing is messed up
U smart mi boi
The gloves he used and the fact that AB was really a 135 pounder fighting a full blown 147 pounder
Yes AB was champion at 147 but he didn’t let his body grow into the weight he was still too small
Them gloves he had on. Floyd caught him though before the fight.
Cuz that version of Maidana wasn’t trained by Robert garcia. Maidana became way better under Garcia
@@AVERUNS yea that plays a big part as well Garcia and his father took chino to another level
“Nobody throw I here “ 😂😂
He’s only focused on being Floyd not being himself that’s why he stays losing
He was so focused on looking good he got caught with a solid right hand I think it's the one that cut his cheek
This is the same guy got that whooped by a 40 year old... for the hood
That same 40 year old went on to beat an undefeated champion in his prime in Keith Thurman afterwards, even dropping him, something he didn’t do to AB. So what’s your point?

They won't do that the week before this fight, bad promo.
Maidana cheated. His gloves had no padding. Also broner moved up 2 weight classes
floyd was a legend because he was talented but he also was always grinding hard broner had talent but he didn't hustle like floyd did and now look at him..
Exactly in fact before AB started heading downward Floyd showed AB how to invest and stay focus and hungry but AB being who he thought he was throw jabs at May. Ask Errol when he sparred Floyd notice that he Errol took off after the fact
He's still a 4 division champ coming off a win. You a hater
God gave broner every athletic skill possible. But left the focus out of the equation.
en ese gran momento AB no estaba con tmt
I miss this AB but he’s long gone
This was 6yrs ago and yall post it months ago 🤦
N Floyd responded it that was the biggest joke of the night ! 😅
Sorry. That fight was stopped prematurely.
Nah that boy turned his back he was defenceless
Agreed
See tank in crowd studying and focused
Don’t understand why fighters don’t take a knee when rocked... yeah you don’t go down but you do realize the ref will stop it right? Take a knee, survive, lose the round and come back in the next. I never understand why they would rather get TKO’d... just take a damn knee guys smh
Too much pride...not enough brains.
Crowds wild lol this was a classic
I love AB's game and skills, but you are not ready for the teacher. Period, floyd is to fast to smart, and his endurance is not matched.
Better to STOP the fight too Earlier than let Fighters take too many Punches.
Theophane had no business being in the ring. Broner had no business letting him last until the ninth round. Ashley had zero power.
That right hand at the end damn near broke his face
Bad stoppage this is a championship fight this dude is the contender give him his chance or atleast let him go out on his sword
They were going to kill him anyway 🤷
Ref: *Nobody throw Ungea Ungea*
Pro AB crowd and the commentators pro AB smh
I swear it just teleported into my hanf
I wonder if Broner is diagnosed. He constantly shoots himself in the foot.
You're a good boxing man let that go with Floyd man Let It Go just continue to do you man

Wait so AB fought other fighters out of Floyd’s TMT camp 😅
Damn PBC had to go back into the vault to find a Broner win.

Broner could be the best fighter if he maximize his punches volume.
Alittle bit close fight so i expect that browner will knock out theophane in order to win

That's a bullshit KO. He didn't even fall down. I hate those overprotective refs
Everybody's starting to use the Mexican body shot today
Well it is boxing
Terrible stoppage. Theophane was fine for 8 full rounds, taking a few good shots along the way but still okay. He was hurt by an uppercut early in the 9th round and was covering up trying to recover. He took maybe 3 more decent shots but none were devastating, and just like that the fight is stopped. I've seen hundreds of fights in which a given fighter was hurt worse then this and just barely survived the round but the fight continued. Often one fighter gets hurt in several different rounds, about the same as Theophane was here, but even after 3 or 4 rounds where that happened the referee gave no indication that he was ready to stop the fight. Sometimes a fighter is badly hurt in the 1st or 2nd round yet it goes the distance, and sometimes the guy that was hurt wins the fight by either KO or decision.
One major consideration is whether or not the hurt fighter is covering up and if he's returning fire. Theophane was covering but had no real chance to throw back because it was stopped so quickly. How many times have we all seen a fight in which both fighters were hurt more then once yet it continued? That's happened in many fights, an example that comes to mind was Ortiz vs Berto #1 or Ortiz vs. Maidana. In the latter, Maidana was on the mat 3 times in 3 rounds, all were from solid shots. He was hurt somewhat after each but refused to quit and the referee allowed him the chance to win and he stopped Ortiz a few rounds later. Ortiz was also down and buzzed from a perfect straight right early in the fight so between the 2 of them there were 4 or 5 times whereby one or the other was hurt and/or knocked down. It finally ended with Ortiz sustaining a nasty cut, he lost heart and wanted no more.
Ortiz vs Berto was a classic, both guys on their ass more then once, and both hurt while remaining upright at times. It was a hell of a fight only because the referee gave each a reasonable amount of time to show if he could bounce back and they did each time. Of course we all know that sometimes a fight is not stopped soon enough and overall it's a tough call to make. Usually the decision to stop a fight is not very controversial because it's difficult to stop at the 'right' time in every case, but there are some that seem pretty obvious and this seemed that way for me. A fighter being hurt isn't by accident, the idea is to try to hurt the other guy. Maybe not enough careful thought and training isn't given to this issue?
An example whereby a fight was allowed to go on for too long was Roberto Duran vs Davey Moore. Everyone in the building was screaming at the referee to stop Duran from savagely beating Moore but he never did. An official from outside the riung had to jump up on the ring apron waving his arms frantically before the pummeling ended. Another example was the 2nd fight between Joe Frazier and Jerry Quarry. My Lord I couldn't stand to watch it any longer. Frazier backed away at one point, signalling to the referee that Quarry was in some kind of trouble. It happened that the great Joe Louis was refereeing the fight. Not only was Quarry beaten to a pulp but he could barely get enough air to breathe. Then a strong left hook from Frazier ripped open a nasty gash above Quarry's left eye. It must have been filthy because Frazier immediately backed away at the sight of the damage. Frazier didn't have the stomach to continue hitting Quarry but Joe Louis signalled that the fight should continue.
Quarry backed up to a rope, then shrugged his shoulders and held out both hands as if to say to Frazier,....'you're going to have to keep hitting me so do what you have to do'......It was a pretty sad situation but luckily someone got Louis's attention and he stopped it soon after. I never saw an interaction like that between fighters in any other fight.
If a fight is going to be stopped like this fight was, that pretty much means that the first sign either guy is hurt ends the fight. I understand that fighters can be seriously hurt if a fight goes on too long but this was the first sign of either guy being hurt and somehow it didn't seem fair to Theophane. Since it was considered a 'home' fight for Broner the crowd didn't object but if the fight had been in England there would have been controversy I believe.
R they gonna actually talk about the fight taking place combos landed etc.? Or jus keep yapping about everything else on this green earth?
Ab was clearly hurting him with better punches
