50 years I haven't flattened a tube yet.... (knocks on wood)... but... I did sell that amp recently and the guy kept saying he was going to drive it with 100 watt HAM Radio. I told him at least 10 times, don't do that, he kept saying he could turn the power down, and I kept saying don't do it! Later that day he called me to listen to him on air from 75 miles away and over a 10,600ft mountain. I told him it sounded bad like he was over driving it. The next morning he called me complaining that it stopped working and he thought I should repair it because as soon as he got home and hooked it up locals told him it sounded bad.
yes a 1x3x6 but I sold to some guy who tried running it with a 100 watt radio after I told him "do not do that" and the next morning he called me and complained it wasn't working anymore.
I know, I know, I said 900 on low and it shows about 50 - 725, I have a variable dead key on that radio and I had just turned it down but my brain was still thinking what I had just seen moments earlier and I wasn't really watching the meter when I made the video, but anyways, on high its 200 - 1200 with this Cobra 142gtl, I may use another radio later and see what it does.
You good man, we all have done the same thing by accident, being tired and or use to using or running bigger scales. All I said was that it is a nice little driver.
Thanks, and yes there is a lot of things that can cause bleedover. Even a clean signal can bleed over on a radio that doesn't have good channel rejection and is nearby. I do have a Moonraker also LOL, but it's in the garage
I sold it this past weekend.... demo'd it here for about 45 minutes at around 800+ watts, he went home (80 miles away) and I could hear him on air that same night and I called him and told him he was over driving it... and he called me the next morning and said it died already. What a shame...
Nice little driver
id be careful i burnt my meter up by over powering it and flattend my 3cx3000a7 that was costly. Those tubes in that are extreamly expensive .
