- Join Purdue University's Senior VP for Partnerships and Online and Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Dr. Dimitrious Peroulis, in this installment of the Electrical Engineering Fundamentals I course. Here, he provides a step-by-step solution to a problem involving a circuit with a 10V independent voltage source, a 0.5A dependent current source, and a 20Ω resistor. Dr. Peroulis details the process of determining the current (IE) flowing out of the voltage source using Kirchhoff's Current Law (KCL), as opposed to Ohm's law since the current doesn't flow through a resistor. He explains how to identify currents flowing into a node and how to use KCL and Ohm's law effectively to calculate the current IE, which is found to be 1.5A.
