Yo what's up L.Dre I've been subscribed for awhile. I enjoy the inspiration. Cool to see you on the MPC now. I do nothing but standalone production and for me and people like me It's mostly about the tactile feel, the hands on workflow but also removing unneeded distractions. The battery isn't essential in this case because it is not the main point. I've come across way to many hiccups, distractions, and even the unlimited choices of plugins, sounds, and software apps actually makes it less desirable to make music on a computer. This is just my preference and when it comes down to it, I think where people differ in opinions all comes down to brain types and learning styles. The hands on learner VS the visual learner...etc, that type of thing.
Thanks for helping me make up my mind, I personally use the pioneer toraiz sp 16 which I still have to plug in , but l love not dealing with a laptop ,you will notice a difference in the sound . Congrats!!
I just got one too, and I can attest to the quality of the built-in speakers, they are surprisingly good at low end, so much so that you'll feel the 808 kick send vibrations through whatever surface the MPC Live II is sitting on.
Heya, love the simplicity of your drum stuff. Just a quick recommendation, use the note repeat button (on the touch screen, you can set the speed of the note repeats). You can find videos of people doing beats, they will set a hat to a quarter note, then quickly tap the triplet and back to quarter notes again, will give you some variety. As to your question of why standalone if you have to plug into a wall, there are people that do not have a PC, or a powerful enough PC. There is also the notion of complexity. Computers make things more complex, just plugging a unit into the wall and getting right to it without having to plug in a PC, have a keyboard / mouse, launching and configuring software, etc is just nice, especially since any difficulties immediately kill creativity. A computer also means more space required. Having to have desk space for a keyboard and mouse is not always an option. I have an MPC Live 1, the primary differences between the Live 1 and Live 2 is the built in speaker, the cv-gates for MIDI, and a few additional buttons (slightly less menu diving, otherwise, aside from the speaker and the cv-gates, the Live and Live 2 have the same functionality). The builtin speaker is what made me buy the MPC Live 2, and I have taken the Live 1 and plugged it into my PC for a permanent setup to use with my Yamaha Motif XF8 (all connected to my PC). My Live 2, lives on my nightstand, I wake up, create some melodic ambient trance dance electronic dub step RNB whatever tickles my pickle music to start my day, and when I come home from work, my original Live 1 gets use for my major studio production work. On occasion, I take my scratch project ideas from the MPC 2 and move them to the PC and do some more work if they are an idea I feel worth exploring / building on. The reason the Maschine+ does not appeal to me is the lack of a touchscreen and the lack of an easy to use piano roll type of display. I write music linearly, not loop based, which means I don't just write 10 tracks and stick them into a song sequence and merely mute tracks. This is lazy writing (no offense to those that do this). I like every section of my music to be unique. This does not mean I don't duplicate short sequences in various areas of my song, but it does mean that I try to be creative, keeping my entire song fresh and exciting. Always be creative, keep on rocking, keep on knockin'.

@L.Dre, to answer your question, speaking for myself, the main point for me having a standalone beat box first and foremost is that you don't have to deal with all the things you have to deal with dealing with computers, like crashes and distractions from email and youtube, etc. The limitations of a small screen mean you are focused on what it sounds like more than pretty graphics. Being able to unplug from the wall and still rock is just a plus on top of all that I mentioned and more, not a defining factor, seeing as how most producers make the bulk of their music in the studio, not at the beach. But yeah, that MPC Live looks hella cool. I'm looking at getting one some time down the line too.
I do a lot of photography and videography. I need to use V mount batteries a lot. I have a Maschine+ as well as Akai. I can plug my Maschine into a V mount and get about 18 hours of use time (v mounts have a ton of juice). It’s more convenient to have a battery built in, but with a V mount, you don’t need a wall jack. Both are great production tools nonetheless.
I wish I had the funds for the live 2, I went with the MPC One yesterday, should be here this week. I think I'll be happy with it. The live 2 looks amazing though
I have the live ,v1 and have had it for a time, but had never found a way to include in performing rig. Here’s what I just today worked out.... I like to play in clips and fade... so bounce your beats into stems and the load them into a clip program. I use two clip programs - like decks. Route the audio from each of these programs into sub mixes. Use a midi controller like a launch control xl, and map faders to volume, and knobs to insert effects (like xy). With your screen on ‘main’ you can easily switch between decks and launch clips , using faders and knobs to transition. I think I can get 16 songs - eight on each deck, which is enough for a whole set, without any reload time and no menu diving. Just thought I’d share.....love the beat. Peace.
You can change warp algorithms in preferences. You can change the strength of quantization in TC button. Change window size and strength. It will leave things human but not too far out.
Also huge bonus you can add another hard drive internally. So I bought a 1TB hard drive and load all my samples. Now that paired with the Splice link over wifi I'm completely set up.
its the sound of the drum machine. whether its a live or a mpc3000, the operation is the same. But its that warmth that comes from old models of mpc that people love. granted i agree, plugging in the mpc to a wall sucks. but the sound that comes from out the machine to the speakers is bond! great video!!
Most standalones don't have internal batteries. up until the early 2000's that wasn't a thing. Today tho, being that a lot of standalones do have an internal battery, it would make sense to add a battery in all new devices. Pretty sure the next one will.

Stand Alone isnt the Same thing as Portable. I want stand alone not because I wanna make beats outside where my gear that cost over a band can get fucked up, I want stand alone cause I look at a computer all day for work and don't want to look at one when I make beats. There are what? Six stand alone devices that are battery powered compared to all the legacy akais, all the keyboard workstations, all the digitakt stuff, all the roland stuff, korg...yall get the point.

I always shake my head when someone mentions it's not standalone because no battery. even tho i personally went with the live because of portability i consider all the other mps also standalone because they have their own processing unit and memory inside. no need for a pc. that is what the word means. people need to get this right.
To be fair, Dre said he doesn’t know why people would get standalone without a battery. So he made the distinction between the two. And I agree with his statement. I like standalone gear that’s portable.
@@silviagarcia601 the current mpc line has bunch of synth you can tweak (not super amazing). there are also instrument expansions and you can convert sounds from your vsts into mpc expansions by multisampling. so yes you can write full tracks inside these things. the major difference between the models is hardware features. so before buying id look at that and decide afterwards. if you dont care much about the battery or the speakers and only need a basic I/O the mpc one is a beast for a fair price and offers the same software features the bigger brothers have except for the ableton control mode. also you can simply slave your electribe to the mpc and use both
Your drums will knock harder than any DAW. Record from the MPC into your computer through whatever interface or pres you have. Better than anything and so simple. Watch the channel MG The Future and be sure to give him a shoutout.
Hey @L.Dre, I had a question I wanted to ask you. I like you, enjoy using loops and samples from websites like Splice, but I want to use samples others aren’t using. Is there any software or website that can scan the web and tell you if a loop has been used before? I might sound crazy, but I feel like something like this should exist. I mean, RUclips can scan it’s site to find copyrighted songs, right, so is there some way for a regular person to do this? By the way, thanks again for the amazing content!

point of standalone without battery is that you dont need a laptop which takes super long to boot and software updates can be tricky.
Standalone is equipment that’s not depended on the computer to be able to work…anything that’s not a controller …standalone does not mean portability
