      Cada generador, ya sea dínamo o alternador, necesita funcionar a las revoluciones para las que fué diseñado. No sabemos si este tiene un sistema de engranajes que aumente la velocidad ya que se le nota muy lento. Los 400w que dicen generar dicen que genera 400w

    Great design but looks too heavy for the rotating part. Perhaps to use light weight alloys to gain better non resistant.

    I just want to let everyone know, that this diy wind trbin might work for a month or two. But when you well rusty metal to rusty metal, with out cleaning s 3 inch area, all around it,. The metal u weld with, doesn't behind with the other metal, meaning that when it gets a stress fracture, that it will break

    Just add a fan or electric leaf blower from Walmart for $30! Make your own wind! For solar power just add lights! For hydro power just pump the water back into the lake!

    Should We use neodymium magnet powered car alternator in it ?

      A big downfall of using a standard car alternator is that the magnetic field of the rotor is not constant, and has to consume electricity in order to operate. I believe the generally accepted power for this at direct connection to battery is around 36 watts (3 amps), meaning you won't really get a decent output unless your setup is in very good condition for extended periods of time. Notice this project produced just around 12 volts most of the time, and even that was with zero load, so a car alternator is not ideal unless you have power to waste. This is why permanent magnet generators are used in wind application.

    To get mo power on low winds use horizontal axis 14blades not vertical.vertical axis is design for high power winds

      A horizontal axis needs to be able to rotate to face the wind, which complicates things a lot if you're building your own pole.

    All practical tests show that small wind turbines hardly generate any electricity and also only have a short service life due to the very gusty wind near the ground and the enormous strain on mechanical parts!
    Small wind turbines are only worthwhile if you MUST be self-sufficient from the grid.
    *With solar panels, on the other hand, you can reliably generate "green" electricity for a few cents/kWh (!) for approx. 25 years!*

    You need a way to BLOCK the drag side of the VAWT while making it able to rotate that blocking into the oncoming wind, you could use a tail structure similar to HAWT. I can imagine something that would would quite well. It's not too complicated really. A half cylinder on TOP of the VAWT mounted to the center of the radius on a free spinning bearing with an ARM secured to the top of said HALF cylinder oriented in the down wind direction. There I just invented the solution for VAWTs to make them much more efficient by eliminating the drag side of the spinning blades with a free spinning half cylinder COVER positioned over and AROUND the VAWT structure utilizing a wind vane type tail similar to ones we see on HAWT. >-X

      Same thought I had, block the wind to the upwind-traveling blades, using a pivoting shield with a tail, but please realize, vertical-axis wind turbines are less efficient than regular propeller-type turbines. Let's remember, the VAWT promoters cite the simplicity and "no need to aim" as the main advantage to VAWTs. Attempts to "rescue" VAWTs from their own inefficiency always starts with throwing away their main supposed advantage - add a tail and now it "aims" into the wind. Save yourself the trouble, and just make a real wind turbine, and enjoy some usable amount of power. Just briefly hitting "a voltage", running unloaded is nice to see as a start, but what you need is to push current (amps) into a battery or other load, which takes energy, which will slow down the turbine's rotation, which will then restrict the voltage. So this demo is nice for a beginner "science fair"-level project, but doesn't get you to the point of making usable amounts of power.
