I now realise you've been around for 10 years, but it's only recently I've been aware of your products and watching your vids since I saw you featured on Collin Furze's large workshop build and I'm really impressed with what you're doing. A simple but very affective product, I wish you all the luck and continued growth!
Great quality job. My boss has a similar foam thing in his Milwakee cases. While I was watching I thought about puting plastic film on everything, a couple of wood pieces to level the machines and distance them a little from the case and then fill everithing with polyurethane foam. Not the same result but could do the job.
Funny, I just bought a Milwaukee m18 High torque 1/2" impact kit. I also bought the protective rubber boot for it, from Milwaukee. I opened up the kit, and installed the boot. Put it back in the box, and it refused to close. I did the samething. Out comes the multi tool, and the fabrication commenced. It now fits in the factory case. Extra foam added.😂 Nice work...👍 Btw, I love my multi tool.
I wish there was a way to buy this foam In the usa at a wholesale price. Foam at retail is crazy expensive. XLPE is insane. I have a business license but can’t find foam for a decent price. Working on a custom project thaT needs an inset like this
Great video and a battery box is handy you can lay the charged batteries separate from the empty batteries or just keep fully charged batteries in the box and have a small box for empty batteries while transporting them between jobs until you can get to charge them
I'm thinking about buying one of the larger 7 pieces Makita combos, however they come in a large bag without any cases. Looks like I should buy a few black cases and some foam too. At least I can fit more tools into a case than they do by default.
Hello kind sir the part where you cut out the inside or the “ribs” I want to do that as well but where do I even start? What tool should I use because I don’t want to hurt myself 😂. Is there any videos I can watch that will help me with that process? Or what that process is even called so I can search up. Thank you and great video ❤
logically, if you flip the foam on the teal side, THEN mark your outer perimeter you can see the lines better when using a black marker and cutting. and a carpenter's square makes cutting the straight sides much faster.
ABSOLUTELY GREAT VIDEO MATE!!! I REALLY wana do this eventually because as a beginner woodworker I have gradually purchased more tools bit by bit and so at the moment most are in large see-through plastic containers so it can become a bit of a mess when you have also have lots of little things like squares, corner clamps, small basic hand-held sander etc. Because I do not have a garage (just a crappy metal shed) I have to clean my Titan Miter Saw every time before I bring it back in the house. But am wondering would it be viable for me to build a wooden case for it just to keep things straight and tidy? At least until I can get a garage workspace. Would your foam go deep enough? I just measured the dimensions of the Miter Saw and it's about 300mm x 400mm x 450mm. Some may say this is pointless but I hate having it visible lieing around my room. BTW u got a new subber : ]
No specifically, but you could easily trim a 30mm depth down to a 10mm depth to fit the lid with your scalpel and cutting gloves in our cutting kit! Hope this helps! 👍
Do you have a video on selecting macpack sizes for shadowfoaming various Makita tools? For example, what size macpack works best for shadowfoaming my Makita X2 circular saw or recip saw. Thanks!
We don't really have a video like that, as it is down to individual taste to decide which depth to use. As a general rule of thumb, you want a deep MakPac and insert for larger tools to accommodate the size of the tool. You might find you will need to use two inserts stacked on top of each other to get the desired height for a large tool
@@JonaShone "you want a deep MakPac and insert for larger tools to accommodate the size of the tool" wow, never thought of that...I was using smaller boxes for bigger tools and wondered why they wouldn't fit. Incredible insight from you there.

Damn that's pretty cool, I've had one of those kicking around for a while. I've always put off buying a combi set for the batteries cuz I didn't want another one of these cases lying round but that is such a cool solution so as not to waste them
Brilliant been wanting to do this for years now I can. There is though an easier way to map out the inside. Stick one sheet of paper in the middle and work around with a “ticking stick”. There are lots of videos on You Tube on how to use a ticking stick. (A ticking stick made from plastic might be a product you can sell)
Fantastic! I just bought a GoPro Hero 11 and the stock case is basically “open concept”. I wish they made foam inserts for it. Would you ever consider making inserts for camera cases or are you sticking with tool kits?
I did something similar in the last few days with a Bosch L-BOXX, but without cutting anything from the box as the lower part is straight. I do find the L-BOXX system way smarter (more rigid, more flexible (handle on 2 sides), can stack perfectly and even be "tied" from other similar boxes etc.
@@JonaShone Will temporarely upload some pictures on an online platform (Wetransfer probably), as there is no way we should add email addresses here :))
I have question, i want my makita machines to be completlly hidden in the foam, so i can put another foam insert on top. Makita is 8cm width, kaizen foam is max 5,7 cm width. What to do?
Wish somebody would sell reasonably priced plain empty plastic boxes with all their internal corners squared in a range of sized, which would be ideal for quickly/easily making neat tight fitting professional looking foam inserts for. All I ever seem to find are tool boxes etc with weirdly shaped internal dimensions & rounded corners (obviously easier to manufacture) which are a real pain, take ages to accurately fit foam & often end up looking a bit naff unless you spend a LOT of time cutting it in just right.
I think you can find rectangular boxes that by adding rectangular foam you could repurpose into toolboxes, but it's a case of getting creative with that definition!
There are a couple of ways to do it. You can just eyeball it an hope for the best, or you can measure the depth of the tool. The great thing about Shadow Foam is that you can cut deeper than you need to peel, and just peel layers back until you reach the desired depth.
The amount of defunct tool cases I've thrown out over the years ! ☹️ not anymore after seeing the best video on reconfiguring and re use of these pvc cases and better for the environment as it takes hundreds of years for pvc to breakdown
We are yes. We are completely separate from Kaizen Foam, but the concept of the foams are similar. However, Shadow Foam comes in a wide range of vivid colours.
I've found that instead of using a scalpel to make several "slices" to get through thick foam, a kitchen carving knife will make the cut in one go with a better quality finish. The only drawback is the wrath of "Er Indoors".
This would be ideal for just batteries... and maybe a charger as well... you could get a dozen batteries in that case...... and perhaps more foam in the lid to hold blades, bits etc...
I can’t find in your video the small knife you’ve used as general utility knives don’t cut so accurately. And the most important thing missing how do you get the cutout outer shape so accurate and the depth surface to be even. Foam doesn’t pull out so evenly ….that’s why I even bothered to look at this tutorial…anyone can just cutout a shape
Luckily for you that precut foam happened to have the exact spaces for your tools, if your collection ever increases or changes, then Shadow Foam will be the perfect solution for your case! 👍

I cut the ribs from my Bosch cases....I wish i hadn't as they lost a lot of rigidity.
If you do that but add in Shadow foam, you should retain that rigidity!
Yes I know what you mean.
I find it helpful to only cut out the bare minimum of rib material in an effort to retain some religiosity of the case.
Ribbed for her pleasure as well.
What model is the multi tool please

If you don't want to use a power tool. you can always pick up a flush saw and do it by hand. Then use a bit of sandpaper to get it smooth
@@JonaShone thank you, for me there is a lot to cut , I picked it up for 5$. So I don’t even think it’s worth it . Might as well just buy another one
