There is reason why not just saying "Christ is king" but saying that there is no salvation out side of Christ, the Good Friday prayer for the conversion of the Jews, the passion narrative read on Palm Sunday and other affirmations of the Catholic faith are called "problematic" and "antisemitic" by Jews. By their own definition of antisemitism which was given by the Rabbi that Candace interviewed, those affirmations fall into that category. Nostra aetate, paragraph 4. The Church also teaches, "although the Church is the new people of God, the Jews should not be presented as rejected or accursed by God, as if this followed from the Holy Scriptures. All should see to it, then, that in catechetical work or in the preaching of the word of God they do not teach anything that does not conform to the truth of the Gospel and the spirit of Christ. Besides, as the Church has always held and holds now, Christ underwent His passion and death freely, because of the sins of men and out of infinite love, in order that all may reach salvation. Klavan’s response was about as anti-Christian as one can get. If he really believed in Christ he would hope and pray that Shapiro would one day experience the love of Christ. On no grounds does a Christian hope that another person (especially one who he cares about) doesn’t find Christ because it might “make their family uncomfortable” or whatever. The gospel specifically tells us that following Christ may divide families. I’ve been a fan of Shapiro’s for a long time, including the times he mocked Christ which were quite insulting. But as of late he’s been insufferable with labeling everything even slightly critical of Israel or Jews as “anti-Semitic.” Does that also make saying “Merry Christmas” to a Jew anti-Semitic? It’s absurd. Christ is king. Deal with it.
I don't think that's what Klavan was saying in the context of the rest of his comments. I think he was describing one aspect of why people shouldn't be surprised that someone in Ben's position hasn't converted to Christianity just because they were told the gospel once or twice. Yes, of course we're called to leave everyone we love behind if it comes to a choice between them and the Lord. We should pray that people who come to see the truth have the strength for that. Meanwhile, as Christians we're not going to seriously convert anyone by taking an antagonistic stance toward them. Almost all the convert stories I've ever heard involved some Christian influence in their lives that was more reasonable, compassionate, and/or loving than the person expected.
This point is where evangelism fails. "I like you, but you do not accept Christ, therefore you are an unperson. Deal with it." Who in their right mind would become a Christian when this is how it is presented? Maybe you need to learn about your own faith. CCC paragraphs 839 and 840 would help. From 839: "To the Jews belong the sonship, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises; to them belong the patriarchs, and of their race, according to the flesh, is the Christ; for the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable."

Ambiguity is best answered by clarity. If terms are being abused by people who wish us ill, then we ought to more clearly define what we mean - that there is such a thing as truly sinful antisemitism, which does not include simple criticism of Judaism, the Israeli state, or individual Jews.
I think Shulamit Aloni, former Israeli cabinet member summed it up pretty well in that old interview she did when she said that labeling people anti-semitic is "a trick" they always use to stifle criticism of them. @raskolnikov6443 Not really. I'm taking an issue with his language. He can say "oh, well that's not what antisemitism means", but who really determines what it means? Moreover, antisemitism is particularly concerned with Jews, but there is no sin that is particular to Jews. If there is a sin in "antisemitism" (whatever that means), it's a sin that can, in principle, be committed against anyone, not just Jews. Jews do not get special treatment.
It's sad how we can't criticize anyone nowadays! If we criticize gays, we're called homophobic, if we criticize hamas, we're called Islamophobic, and that too. :/

Absolutely right! Context and evil acts have nothing to do with it - they are merely separate and should be judged as to whether they are hateful or antisemitic in terms of the intent, not the declaration of a statement of truth - I.e. what God said and, most importantly, what God is!
It's telling that in order for people to criticize Trent's take people have to misrepresent it. Trent was very clear that the statement alone is not controversial, but when people misappropriate scripture to hate their neighbors it becomes sinful.
@@Desert-Father yes, but in no way is it antisemitic or hateful towards the Jews or a certain ethnic group. Trent wasn't portraying the declaration of "Christ is King" as not being antisemitic; he left it open as though it could be depending on one's intent or action of hate. It is never ever antisemitic to announce or declare "Christ is King", even when one's actions show hate or prejudice (I.e. antisemitism) towards a jew or Jews. Trent's argument is too weak and could expose us to complaints of unwarranted hate crime.
@@seppe1701 yes, but what? Repeating a bad argument over and over does not improve it. If you use sacred things including the word of God in manners which are not of God or beneath his dignity, i.e. in the service of hate, prejudice bad intent towards a group of people, you blaspheme. Even Satan quoted scripture, but he did so to tempt Christ in opposition to God. That was blasphemous. We have been called to speak truth in charity. If your actions do not conform to the will of God and his commandments, then you will have no inheritance with him. "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord,' did we not prophesy in your name? Did we not drive out demons in your name? Did we not do mighty deeds in your name? Then I will declare to them solemnly, 'I never knew you. Depart from me, you evildoers.' " Mt. 7:21-23. There are a lot of commentors here that have forgotten this teaching. They claim to be Christian but they act without charity.
Because they weren't jokes. Fuentes actually idolizes Hitler. If he didn't, why does he talk about him so much with a big smile on his face? He knows he's being inflammatory and transgressive. "Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Horn knows that if Nick's jokes evoked Stalin, then he would be fine and there would be no controversy. There is a reason Horn is sensitive to one and not the other, and it's not because of anything the Bible says. He has been catechized by a sick and demented culture.
Hi Trent, been watching you for years but this was disappointing. Denying the holocaust is not a slap against Jews. You should see what Puis X said about them
“it is not enough to deplore and condemn hostility against the Jewish people; … it is necessary to also foster friendship, esteem and fraternal relations with them.” (Pope St John Paul II)
@@AZ1306AZ Matthew 7:6 "Do not give dogs what is holy; and do not throw your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under foot and turn to attack you." Jews have shown time and time again that they are evil, and hate Christ and His followers.
You say in number 2 that saying there are too many Jews in institutions of power is antisemitic. Then you say you agree with Nick that faithful Christians should run society. So which is it? Is saying there are too many non catholics in power bigoted or not? You just claimed that it would be good if all society were Christian and ran by Christians. How can you work towards that without saying that there are too many non Christians in positions of power. I also disagree with the the idea that it is bigoted to say there are too many people of any faith in power. The state of israel would be right in saying they dont want any muslims in their government. People of Muslim nations would be justified in saying they dont want Christians in power. And the Christian nations should be justified in saying they dont want jews in power. People in positions of power ought to bow down to Christ the king in their decision making when using that power. It isnt bigoted to say I dont want people who dont believe Jesus is king to be running my country or that there are too many people who maintain that disbelief do in fact run my country. Pointing out that they happen to be mostly jews just serves as proof that they dont believe that Christ is King and dont enact their power in line with Christian morality. I'm certain that well meaning catholics would be upset if any government strayed this far from Christian morality.
The point of that segment is that the same people who complains about accusations of having "too many catholics in positions of power" will use the same kind of argument against jews with an antisemitic purpose ("the jews are the problem"). If you think it's better to have more faithful Christians in institutions of power, it's not because you have some against any group in specific necessarily.
Amen. I don't think the golden rule argument holds up because we're not talking about immutable characteristics that we have no control over. We're talking about matters of faith and belief which fundamentally drive all of our decision making.
@@ghostapostle7225 But it makes no sense, because the people who say there are too many jews in positions of power, when faced with the argument that there are too many Catholics in positions of power do NOT complain about the argument. We like hearing that, we argue that it is a good thing and that there should be even MORE Catholics in positions of power. It is not the same thing to have too many Catholics in power as jews. Catholicism = true and good. Judaism = wrong and evil. Understand???

He’s not saying that would be worse off. He’s saying for Ben to get saved. That would uproot everything in his life his family most of all. His entire family would not understand and it might cause huge division in them. It doesn’t mean Ben shouldn’t come to Christ, it just means that would be a big thing for him to do and we should all pray that he does some day. It’s different when you grow up like Ben has. Their faith and respect for God is very real, but they still do not believe in any way that Jesus is Messiah. So in order for someone to do that, they would have to deny their own religion to follow Christ. Their family and community might condemn them for that. So it would be hard for Ben to go against his entire family’s faith if he said he was saved and was not going to deny Jesus Christ as savior any longer.
“Christ is King” does cause division. Christ didn’t come to bring peace but a sword. The phrase is inherently opposed to fake religions.

Yep I think Trent, just like many others, is completely glossing over the real issue at hand here. This discourse inevitably leads to categorizing Catholicism itself as antisemitic.
It has nothing to do with "hate" or "criticism" or Nick Fuentes praising Hitler. That is just a distraction.
And the rabbi was trying to of course have the Monopoly on sorrow trying to get Candice to admit that whatever happened to Israel and the Jews was a "unique evil"

Did you watch the entirety of Klavan's response?
This point is where evangelism fails. "I like you, but you do not accept Christ, therefore you are an unperson. Deal with it." Who in their right mind would become a Christian when this is how it is presented? Maybe you need to learn about your own faith. CCC paragraphs 839 and 840 would help. From 839: "To the Jews belong the sonship, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises; to them belong the patriarchs, and of their race, according to the flesh, is the Christ; for the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable."

This is another reason why we must reject evolutionism. Rejection of Christ the King goes all the way back to Cain and Abel and to Satan in the Garden. When you see these are mere stories of fiction as opposed to history, you don't see that this rejection is utterly ancient and inherited in a real sense. Was the overturning of RvW due to there being Catholics on the court, or because RvW was a horrible decision that needed to be overturned since there is clearly no right to abortion in the constitution?
Even within religious and racial populations, there are differences. Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi are both Catholic, do you think prochoicers would have a problem with judges who think like them were on the Supreme Court? They are Catholic after all.

Gilbert the nicest chap since Father Christmas
@@IcyHOTCatholicThere is no queen of Heaven. That's paganism. There's only King Jesus in heaven.
@@archangel3231 Jesus is King, Mary is queen. Cry about it prot, your theology is man-made.
@@archangel3231 You clearly don't understand historical Israelite traditions.
@@AZ1306AZ Matthew 7:6 "Do not give dogs what is holy; and do not throw your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under foot and turn to attack you."
Jews have shown time and time again that they are evil, and hate Christ and His followers.
Yes, denying the well-documented violence that was done towards a specific group is absolutely committing a grave sin towards them.
Agreed
AMEN !
When you don't have a definition, everything is anti-Semitic, even when a statement is not intrinsically derogatory.
Did you watch the video? Trent gives a useful check for whether or not something is truly antisemitic.

Yes, I did. That is why I said something not intrinsically derogatory. Something that is not truly anti-semitic is not intrinsically derogatory.
Trent also gave examples of how something is not truly anti-semitic but is labeled that way. That is why I said everything is anti-semitic even though it is not intrinsically derogatory.
Do you know the definition of intrinsic?
"Hostility to or prejudice against Jewish people."
It's pretty simple.
@@RacingSnails64
What is considered hostile and prejudiced against Jews? As of now, it seems like anything that hurts someone's feelings is considered hostile and prejudiced.
Trent Horn was labeled anti-semitic for analogizing abortion to the Holocaust. Was he hostile and prejudiced against Jewish people when he made that analogy?
I think it's tough to agree with you (and I usually do) when you start labeling St. Thomas Aquinas and Chesterton as anti-semites. We are not God and we cannot read people's minds to make blanket judgements about who is or who is not anti semetic.

What about at the 4th lateran council where jews where forbidden to hold public office? Would Catholics at the time been in sin for supporting the law or for not?
In some way, Trent will work this so that it isn't discrimination when the Catholic Church does it. The argument was that Jews took financial advantage of the Christians (Usary), but that sounds like a stereotype to me.
Christ is King, keep seething.
