Used to watch this show with my dear grandmother back in the 70's. Laughed like crazy. Social commentary while incredibly funny. Never done as well before or since. Bravo Norman Lear.
I always had a problem with this show, which began airing when I was about eleven. It was supposed to be a satire on people who thought like Archie. My father never saw that. He saw Archie repeating what he also thought and to him in was great.
@stephen7072 but the thing I most respect about this show is no other show would really show what an average father and boyfirend, son etc in the 60s or 70s was dealing with, especially Archie and Mike. trust me my father and older brother was somewhat the same regarding the draft and Nixon
What totally blows me away is that Archie is suppose to be only 49 years old in this scene. HELL, I am 63 yrs old as I type this! Archie was just a youngster in this scene.........just a kiddo!

usually when an actor portrays a character as great as Archie Bunker he gets typecast and it’s hard 2 see them in another role. it’s a great credit to Carrol O’Connor’s talent that he was able 2 portray another character (Heat of the Night)and b just as good.
