I watched a pro mechanic do this and he didnt remove the tie rod end or the shock or the caliper and it went in fine, he just removed the cotter pin from the ball joint and pulled it down and pulled the CV joint right out, he also replaced the axle seal which he recommends when you replace the CV every time. Why did you do it so differently?
Figured it out. the nut to the right, next to the driver side CV axle is the “level/overflow plug” and the fill cap is on the top. I shouldn’t have “lost” as much as I did because it should have never been that full ugh! haha what a pain in the ass car! With a transmission that is impossible to replace “the filter” that is unable to be removed or even accessed
@@kamerongiamanco8249 I am gonna tackle this this weekend, and i think I will dismantle driver side first, and jack stand it high enough that it is at an angle, and maybe ATF will not flow out.
@@fixitquick I wound up having to go to Chevy. They had 1. I also found it online and I'm getting another for the other side today. It was a weird part and I'm replacing the other side when I do it whether it's broken or not.
@@fixitquick I changed one side a year ago now it's starting to make clicking noise so I changed the same side again and it's still making clicking noise should I change the other side
@@jimgourd8421 before you change other side check your struts for leaks ,sway bar links ,inner and outer tied rods , ball joins and lower control arms for any damage use a pry bar to do so . Is make noise when you turn to left or right?
@@fixitquick this is on the 2005 Chevy I changed the driver-side and it still clicking but I think my ball joint is bad and now it's clicking right underneath the car
does the axle suppose to be flush or does it have a lil gap space when u reinstall. I put mines back on push it as for as I could but it looks like yours is more flush then mines
You did a really great job of showing the key steps. Thank you!
That detail of no damaging the the screw is niceeee
Best repair video I've seen
Thanks
Gotta start somewhere man. Appreciate you having done the drivers side axle also. I’m gonna be changing mine later today.
Got to have that fork tool . Or you'll be having hard ass time
Thanks for showing where you put the tool you used to get it out with and how you did it, to get the CV axle out! 👍
This helped me so much. I really appreciate man.

How much ATF did you lose & need to replace and should I just do a flush when done with the driver side?? (How did you refill the transmission fluid?)
I lost more than you did because I didn’t shove the new axle in as quickly as you did
At 18:59 you should have shown that you needed to replace ATF...

My axel is kinda loose should it have any play at all????
It should have at least 1/16 play
Awesome!
nice video thank you
How do you know when you need new axles?
Clicking Noises When Turning left or right
A Knocking Sound
Grease on the Inside or Edge of the Tires
Vibration While Driving
Should u change both axles on the vehicle
Is recommend to change both but customers sometimes choose change only one

Which side transmission se or spindle side ?
@@fixitquick driver side. does the metal part has to be push all the way to the wall
Transmission side d little gap space and spindle side no gap at all
How much would it cost for a mechanic to replace the axle.
Depends . Labor only between 100 and 250 plus axle
How did you know the cv was bad ? What noise was it making ?
it will make a clunking noise as you make a slow turn to right or to the left
Why take off tie rode can you do it without that step?
You can try but it is much easier without the tie rod
