    Would you vote for Homer?

  • @Cassandra03
    @Cassandra03 27 дней назад +71

To summarise, his intention was to vote:
    Obama '08
    Romney '12
    Hillary '16
    Biden '20
So if these episodes are to be believed he's a boomer lib, which I suppose isn't that out of character with the way he's been presented before, I mean he was literally a union leader.

I'd say for '20, he had no intention to vote. He could have voted when Marge reminded him, but he chose the route of fuck it and went back to sleep. Yes, all the other times he did vote Lib and therefore would still be considered at least a former boomer lib, but I think it's worth mentioning that he clearly didn't give a damn about 2020 and could be currently considered apolitical.

Except in '08, although we see him press the button for Obama, but the end, as he is being sucked into the machine, he cries out "I only meant one of those votes for McCain!" So we are left with some wiggle room on that one.

@Merennulli Probably because it is very German, and we were fighting Germans at the time. Also, people were less literate, and 4 syllables would be a bit overcomplicated for the common folk of the time.

    Two thoughts...
Election humor from Ohio was from 2004 when John Kerry Won and there was the initiatives in Ohio that blocked voting. The vote was "Close Enough" that had Kerry won Ohio he would have won the election, but Kerry didn't win the popular vote. That's where the joke comes in 2008... Ohio was the 2004 version of Florida ...
(Side Note... One of my favorites stories to tell was about the 2000 election. I saw an interview with Pat Bucchanan. He had been on the ballot for the Reform party narrowly beating out Donald J Trump in the Reform Party Primary (yea people forget the Ross Perot farce of a party), And of course the election is over and the recounts are going to court. Pat was on a news show and they asked him his thoughts what happened in Florida and does he believe that people made mistakes with the ballot. The Politician said the most honest thing I ever heard from a politician... "I can't believe all those people voted for me either."

They forgot Treehouse of Horror VII, in which Homer voted for Kodos (who had been impersonating Bill Clinton) in the 1996 Election. They make fun of the guy who said to vote Third Party, so I looked at the Third Party candidates in 1996:
    •Ross Perot - Reform Party
    •Harry Browne - Libertarian Party
    •Ralph Nader - Green Party
•John Hagelin - Natural Law Party
•Howard Phillips - US Taxpayers' Party (now the Constitution Party)
10:32 - Pretty much, but it's not just The Simpsons. The Animaniacs Reboot also did it, amongst many others. Basically, Hollywood is part of the Ministry of Propaganda of the Democratic Party, yet despite all the celebrity endorsements, Harris still lost.

The Simpsons was more subtle in the 90s, but claiming they were apolitical is like claiming Star Wars was apolitical and is entirely incorrect. The Simpsons has always had a left leaning slant, it's just that the right has gone so outside of the mainstream that they're now very clearly the more outrageous party.

In the 90's you had Sideshow Bob bragging as he was arrested that he and all of his criminal friends would be out of prison as soon as a Democrat took back the White House. You'd also have a shadow cabal of the richest and most influential figures in Springfield meeting as Republicans to decide how they could keep themselves wealthy at the expense of the rest of the town. These days the writers are noticeably more one-sided and less clever in their political humor.
And don't pretend like it's only the Republicans who have moved further away from the center.

I preferred the days when the Simpsons remained apolitical. The first one was a fun one time gag, but the fact they kept doing it and it kept getting more and more one sided is just not ok. Especially when it contributes to a long time tradition of vilifying one side of the aisle. I don't care what anyone says, Trump won in 2016 because he was vilified as a racist, fascist dictator who was worse than Hitler and he clearly wasn't that bad. But because the Dems painted that picture and then went after Republican voters regardless of why they were voting Trump, it just encourage more and more people to vote in secret, fearing being honest and upfront about their political leanings. And this is not good for politics. We need to be open about it. We need to realise that opinions that are not our own aren't automatically wrong. We need to stop vilifying people for having different opinions. And we need to stop letting TV shows, comedians, celebrities and late night talk show hosts tell us what to think and who to vote for. It's ruining America, it's ruining the West, and it's frankly pathetic to see grown ass people crying because they didn't get their way in an election. The world will not end because your party didn't win. And I would know because in all my adult life, I have never been on the winning side of a referendum or election. So we need to stop politicizing everything, we need to stop crying about loosing, and we need to accept the opposite party to our own are not evil. I really am getting so sick of it all.
