Unreal Tournament DX11 Renderer with HBAO, Tessellation and HDR

  • Hello everyone,
    I'd like to present my new directX 11 renderer for Unreal Engine 1.
    It supports features like hardware tessellation which gives you more rounded meshes, HBAO - an algorithm to increase shading and shadow realism, HDR to give more human like eye adaptation to light and a parallax occlusion mapping which simulates bumpiness on near to camera surfaces. Each of these techniques is clearly visible on uploaded video. No texture mods were applied just a retail patch 436. Please add your thoughts in comments below this video.

    Hi, this film is quite old. I put it before releasing my first version on MODDB in October last year.
    Graphics looks much better now with SSRs, HDR tonemapping and ASSAO.
    I recommend visiting MODDB and grabbing the renderer from:

    I want to really thank you for your amazing DX11. I still play UT99 (almost daily) with a bunch of friends and this is exactly what we needed! kudos!

      Thak you very much for liking my work !
      In some future I will update the renderer. I'm planning to add a config file from which it will read how much to tesselate any mesh model
      (a factor from 0 to 1). So anyone would be able to edit this file to their likings and make the renderer more compatible with any mesh mods.
      Also I'm going to add more user-prefered options like: hbao intensity , hdr tone mapping, etc.
      So stay tuned for more improvements !

    I had to turn off Vsync (too much input lag), and SRR because reflections and colors were clearly fake. But I still highly recommend this DX11 renderer because HDR looks great and mouse move smoother at the same framerate, so it's easier to aim (old D3D and Glide renderers simply have issues on modern PC's with mouse movement). Also for the best experience I still recommend using "mparam" mouse acceleration fix in unreal 1 engine based games (and in fact in all old games build for win 98 that used mouse acceleration).
    But I wonder why there's no DX11 support for Clive Barker Undying? It was also really good Unreal 1 engine game.

      Hi,
      You can use TessellateInCFG=true to limit tessellation only to meshes in tesselation.cfg file.
      Further more you can delete or edit any entry from this file if the tessellation output doesn't suit you.
      Try to disable HDRFilmicTonemapping as this option changes colors to warmer. I also decrease SSRIntensity to 0.3 so reflections are limited to metals and weapons.
      Unfortunately Undying Developers didn't release any official headers/libs which I have to link against in my renderer's code. Maybe if I asked them for it there would be a chance.

    Weapons and items have barrel shape with this renderer in UT99, how do I change it??

    Can you make this work in OpenGl (e.g. openGl 4.0 or openGl 4.4 etc.)? Running ut2004 on linux is great and so OpenGl would benefit from this. Many people are using older cards these days (e.g. Radeon HD6xxx series) because of the GPU shortages. As an aside _(as ut2004 can run on a pi4 as shown in youtube videos, and just about on a pi3b)_ can this be made to run (on low settings) on a raspberry pi?
    It would be good if ut2004 could be modded to support crossfire, like UnrealEngine3 does.

    Your Mod Great But Fucking Remove Your Paypal Link in the Clipboard. Can't Connect to a Game because of this
