bts is a 7 member group from south korea theyre not kpop.

bts songs are written and produced by them plus their in house team and sometimes other writers and producers from outside but bts are always involved in each song except for their japanese discography and their english songs only butter rap verses were written by one of the rappers and for japanese songs a few of them worked on a few songs but it was mostly by japanese writers and producers.
their korean discography though is majority them and based on their own life experiences. they do all genres of music too not just pop. and all 7 have solo music too :)
They are kpop lol. Pop is a genre that includes whatever music is popular at the time. Hence its meaning Popular music. BTS is defo kpop.

BTS only have 3 fully English songs out of over 250 songs they've made over the past 8 years. All BTS music videos have subtitles and most of their material is translated by fans or by BTS company. BTS were huge without the help of singing in English which makes their success even more remarkable. A lot of fans are also trying to learn Korean because of BTS or just kpop in general. And to be honest many BTS fans will say Butter doesn't even scrape the surface of what they can do as a group. Butter is one of their easiest choreographies, you haven't seen anything yet.

There are three rappers and they're like real legit rappers. I know that the first intro to BTS is through their poppier stuff (which slaps too) but they were birthed in hip hop. The three rappers (RM, Suga, and j-hope) were the first three members back in 2010. Two came from the underground rap scene, the third was national champion in hip hop dance and a starting member of a street dance crew--they already were deep into hip hop before BTS. They've all been rapping for more than a decade, they all have very distinct styles, they all have a pure love and dedication to their crafts, they all write all of their own stuff (except when it's in a foreign language like Japanese or English) and are some of the most credited song writers in the industry, and they all produce too. Suga even produces for other singers like Halsey. RM has collabs with Wale and Lil Nas X, Suga with Juice Wrld, j-hope paid Webstar and Bianca about $3M for the right to pay homage to Chicken Noodle Soup (the first song he ever learned to dance to when he was a kid) and collabed with Becky G on that and they each all have their own mixtapes too. You should really dig into them. I recommend Outro: Tear (the live stage) or Dis-ease or Ugh! if you want to hear a little of them at work. (They have a ton of solos but I recommended their collabs so you could see them as a unit.) We have 4 phenomenal vocalists too but I bring up the rap line because you talked in your My Universe vid about bar appreciation and all three of them are insightful and clever lyricists and also, sometimes people have this idea about "boy band rappers" and our rap line are really all incredibly talented rappers who live for hip hop but when you watch recent group title tracks, that comes across less because their radio stuff is more pop-oriented.
They have 3 rappers, the rapping will blow your mind, listen to JOKE, I was like wtf….it’s crazy they really do it all, the choreography is a trip, they’ve worked very hard to get to where their at so you gotta check it, totally appreciate what they do……
2:53 Lol Those are their names and birthdates, the leader is RM, oldest JIN and youngest is JUNGKOOK; since RM is the leader he goes first even though he’s the middle member. ALL MEMBERS CAN SING, RAP AND DANCE; EACH ONE HAS MULTIPLE ROLES WITHIN THE GROUP AND INDUSTRY.

We do all listen to their Korean music even if we don't speak Korean. We have resources that translate the lyrics and help us understand what they are talking about.
I would recommend Black Swan so you can get an idea of their range. They do so many different genres.
There are 3 rappers and 4 vocalists in the group! The rappers are RM, SUGA, and J-Hope. RM and SUGA were underground rappers in Korea pre-debut, while J-Hope took up rapping after joining the group (he was previously a well-regarded street dancer) -- though he started later, he is an excellent rapper as well as dancer. Their rap line is incredibly talented and write all their own raps. RM is known for his bold, confident, aggressive style as well as his wordplay,, as well as being adept in switching between English and Korean. SUGA is known as one of the fastest rappers in the industry, and is also known for tackling difficult topics such as mental health. J-Hope's rapping style is emotional, he is excellent as switching flows and cadence and leans towards melodic rap (he can also sing!)
The four vocalists are Jin, V, Jimin and Jungkook. They are all also very talented and known for their unique vocal tones.
Their dance and performances are second to none.
BTS has a huge discography spanning over 8.5 years, and the rappers all also have solo mixtapes. If you're willing to put on subtitles, you will be amazed at the depth of their lyrics and musical versatility!
If you're more into rap/hip-hop, I'd suggest listening to Mic Drop (a diss track they wrote after winning many awards, after a very difficult beginning to their careers) -- the Steve Aoki remix (put on subtitles, it is performed in a mixture of Korean and English). Their earlier works are also more hip-hop oriented. It's often suggested to listen to the rap line's Cyphers (Cypher 1, 2, 3 and 4), Outro:Tear and Ugh! to introduce you to some of their rapping. Solo works to try: RM's "Joke" AgustD "Daechwita" and "AgustD" (AgustD is SUGA's alter-ego" for solo work). Again, subtitles on for all.

Glad you gave bts a chance! I personally got hooked with their korean songs back in 2018 even though i don't know korean at all 😂 it all started with just a youtube recommendation. I was there at first for the hype but was surprised each time i listen to every song. (Literally i kept saying - 'wow this one's a bop too!' Repeat that reaction for their 200+ songs!) the english songs are just a bonus to me.
I would suggest listening to their korean songs - vibe to it (cause even if you don't know the lyrics, you FEEL it), then turn on captions / read lyrics. If you could do both that would be better, but i find most people have a hard time doing it both lol.

One of main reasons for the success of BTS is that they don’t rely on the references to sex, drugs, violence and general toxicity which are the lifeblood of Western male music artists.

new here, Have you seen Coldplay x BTS Making of “My Universe” Documentary? It’s very informative and it shows Chris Martin who travelled to South Korea for two days to meet and record the song with them.*KEEP IN MIND THE SONG DOES BELONG TO #Coldplay who wrote it for #BTS* They was another milestone achieved by BTS and first for Coldplay being able to collab with the worlds most popular group.

I'd put BTS rappers, RM,Suga and J Hope against any American rapper and know they can hold their own. They are actually better than some American rappers. Give them a chance before you knock them. They make enormous contributions to their music and deserve credit for it, just not on this particular song.

To put this group in the correct perspective, you have to listen to their solo music (Daechwita, Joke, Airplane, Euphoria, Filter, Singularity, Epiphany…there are many others), watch a couple of their dance practices and their MV’s (Black Swan, ON Kinetic Manifesto, Mic Drop). The thing is, each one of these guys are fully capable of being solo artists. They are amazing together. They can do any genre of music. I can’t remember where I heard this, but someone said it’s like having 7 Justin Timberlake’s in one group (only better 😉). Even if you don’t react to it, go and check out some of their performances. There is so much more to it and you shouldn’t leave yourself with the impression that they just do pop music. Oh yeah…they write and produce most of their music too .

I promise you, they are not referencing any type of weed. MJ is still very much illegal in Korea and JK even hesitated to sing the word "weed" when he was on a vlive and covering "Peaches" by JB.

He's the cheeky smoker, made me almost spit out my coffee. SK is very anti drugs and it's highly illegal there, toking on a joint would get them kicked off the public stage in shame never to return. High like the moon, Rock with me Baby... that's how I think the phrase is supposed to be sung. Not moon rock as a word which you insisted and denotes to smoking ie weeds?? BTS are not known to promote this sort of negativity ie sex, drugs etc or else I won't listen to them. They are very inspiring artistes that promotes positives values. Not only they are talented and versatile but very humble and decent dudes who have helped lots of people overcome their hardships and depression through their musics. BTS is massively popular for a reason and you need to know them better without any prejudice.
They are not the first ones I've heard make this connection regarding Moon Rock (it's a popular weed product). They are not wrong. BTS didn't write this song (though they are typically involved with their other works), so we can't know what the writers' inspiration was. But I agree with your assessment that BTS would not sing it with that intent.
I would say people will interpret it based on their knowledge and that's ok. Smoking weed doesn't make you a horrible drug and sex-crazed maniac also. Jessayin'. Prejudice goes both ways.
I don't smoke weed, but some of my best friends do. And they are wonderful upstanding citizens who legally smoke in places where it's legalized.

I come from a country that impose a mandatory death sentence those caught more than 1 kg of weed and jail sentence and rehabilitation program if caught with less of the amount and I think South Korea is not lenient either... hence, we view this as a serious matter obviously....
and yes, I was in LA for the recent BTS concert and I could smell weeds in the air, gave me an instant headache! 🤕
@@aah2279 LOL! No, I totally understand. I agree, our perspectives are totally shaped by our experiences and where we are from. I don't like the way it smells either (it's called skunk for a reason, yuck).
