It was not their responsibility at all to inform them of that. Gabby was living in their house too, so it's not as if her family was taking responsibility for her supporting and looking after her. Her family look like the money grubbing attention seeking type. They seem to love the limelight over this.

The camping trip was in early September BEFORE Gabby's parents left messages on the Laundries phone regarding their daughter being missing. The phone messages didn't happen until September 11th and Brian left for the Carlton Reserve on September 13th where he subsequently killed himself. The Petito/Schmidt family lawsuit has no evidence to back up the allegations so winning money is impossible. I do believe the intent of this lawsuit was to get the "silent" Laundries to tell them what Brian told his parents about Gabby before he went missing himself. Gabby's family needs answers. Both these families should talk to each other. If they can't do that then it should be done through their lawyers. Even if Brian told his parents all lies then Gabby's family still need to hear that.

Any parent(s) whose child brings the Van back without the owner (Gabby) knows way more than they are saying.
No good parent(s) would allow these actions to take place for so long without a lengthy explanation from there son.
Brian was a Dangerous Narcissistic Person for years from what some friends said during that time. His own family's actions showed he ruled the roost and seemed like they were afraid of him. Especially his sister Cassie who I do not believe had any knowledge of any of this except Brian came home without Gabby. My heart always went out to Brian's sister but none of the restvof his family.
He was spoiled and catered to.
I believe Gabby's parents have alot of evidence to back up their allegations.
The Laundries Attorney has always portrayed himself a little shoddy and sleazy. Not an Attorney I would ever choose to represent me.
I feel Brian's Motther Roberta is probably as Physco as Brian was. And her husband Chris was afraid of not only Brian but Roberta as well.

I believe that as well, I believe the scene he caused at the restaurant was her final straw and realized that nothing she could do would change him to continue to take the blame and be his scapegoat for all his rage and mood swings. He literally had her taking responsibility for all his failures, moods and incidents that he couldn’t control for himself. I think he was obviously raised where his parents made excuses for his bad and entitled behavior so he never was made to except accountability for his actions.
I think Gabby told Brian after the restaurant scene she was done, was calling off the rest of the trip and they would be returning to Florida where she would be leaving him for good. He flipped out from the rejection. He had what I refer to as “reactionary rage” and it was unpredictable as to what would set him off into an uncontrollable response that usually was an instant physical response.

Brian's parents cannot be charged for accessory after the fact, Florida Statute 777.03 defines what it means to be an accessory after the fact in Florida. When you violate this law, you assist someone after he or she has committed a felony by helping in his or her evade arrest, trial, conviction or punishment. In so doing, you yourself commit a felony offense.
However, there is an important exception written into the law, known as the “related person exemption.” This provision holds that an individual can’t be charged with accessory after the fact if they are the suspect’s:
      Wife
      Husband
      Parent
      Grandparent
      Child
      Grandchild
      Brother (by blood or marriage)

Beyond that, they don't "need" anything from the Laundries. (Something the court will take into consideration in the unlikely event that it ever gets that far.) The Petito/Schmidts WANT more information, and they WANT some kind of revenge against the Laundries. Also Joe Petito admitted contacting the Laundries threatening to call the police to get them to talk. It is in the video link I posted below. Sorry to tell Joe who admitted to being an ex criminal but everyone doesnt function like they are live in the crimimal world. Some people protect themselves and dont directly respond to threats. Brian left the house on September 13th to go "hiking" and took his mother's car. His parents took it back the next day (or maybe 2 days later). He had the car illegally parked with a ticket on it. His parents figured he could walk home. It is just a few miles. By September 17th the Laundries realized he would not be gone for 4 days without his wallet which he left at home in plain view for his parents to see. On the news they are talking about a possible murder and Brian being on the run. The Laundries reported Brian missing on the 17th and told the police that they were concerned he could have harmed himself. They were insistent that he was somewhere in the Carlton Reserves. 5 weeks later his bones were found. Nowadays they found almost his entire skeleton. There were also 2 guns found too. Brian died from a gunshot wound to the head. BTW Gabby's remains were found on the 19th of September.

Why would you think a jury trial would "validate the allegations and expose the facts" better than a trial presided over by just a judge? I actually read the filing, and it's so full of holes you could use it to catch fish. It's up to the plaintiff to prove that criminal activity has been done. "They didn't tell us what they knew" and "They blocked us from their phones and Facebook" are NOT criminal actions. There is NOTHING in that filing that the Laundries can't counter, honestly or not, with plausible deniability. This is an entirely frivolous lawsuit that will never come to trial. And for people who want to charge the Laundries with anything up to and including the assassination of JFK: Brian was never charged with anything, so the Laundries weren't "harboring a fugitive." The search was for a missing person, so they didn't "obstruct justice." Geez Louise, I wish all these armchair lawyers would learn a little law!

I know that is crazy, but this whole story is crazy. They never acted like a parent who had just lost their son or worried about where he was. They are a special kind of cold. At the time Brian "disappeared" into that swamp, there were two plausible scenarios. The first was that he took the coward's way out by committing suicide. The second was that the whole thing was a ruse to facilitate Brian to flee the country or otherwise hide from law enforcement. It's clear now that the suicide scenario was the correct one, but it seems that a lot of people, including possibly Gabby's family, became so committed to the other scenario that they just can't let go of it.
