I am a PRS owner and currently own 5 core PRS guitars - in fact my avatar is one of my PRS guitars (a PRS Special Semi-Hollow). After PRS launched in 85, Companies like Fender and Gibson set up their 'Custom' shop to try and match PRS on 'quality' - something PRS offer as 'standard'.
I really struggle to buy other brands now because PRS does it better and with much higher consistency. I don't want to go to 'every' music shop to try and find the 'best' Les Paul with the fewest (albeit minor) issues and in my preferred colour and maple top - especially as I can just buy any 594 in the colour I want and know it won't have any issues - minor or otherwise.
I often see people commenting about PRS price but compare a 'perfect' non-10 top 594 to a Custom shop R9 on price and quality, attention to detail etc and then tell me the PRS is 'expensive'. Its easily on a par with Nik Huber's guitars and much more affordable....

Absolutely! I've currently got 4 core PRS, including one Custom 24 from 1995. All of them are fantastic. I have a US Fender and a Gibson, but for both of these I needed to visit 5-6 shops and try every single Strat and Les Paul in the store before I found "the one". And then still spend hours to set them up properly. With PRS it's more just about choosing your favourite colour because you *know* they'll all play fantastic right out of the box. And no quality issues. PRS are literally the only brand I'm willing to shell out thousands to buy before trying.
Don't have the money for a core? Get an SE or S2 or CE! They're phenomenal too :)
And they're so pretty that even my wife approves of having so many ;)

Paul just gets it. I’ve been next to him watching him adjust necks at a clinic on customers guitars when all they wanted was for him to sign it. He signed them then inspected them. I thought that was really cool that he actually cares about his guitars and wants them to be perfect for his customer. I bought one soon after. Great guitars.

Being a nu metal kid (I'm 34 now) I always looked up to people with a PRS and it was always a dream guitar, but besides the cost, I'm left handed. So up until a couple years ago when they finally released a SE in lefty I didn't have many options. Plus the man himself said at one time "You don't make a left handed piano, why make a Lefty guitar." That hurt. Well, cut to now; I have 6. 4 SE Custom 24s (Swamp ash red, Quilted top gray/Roasted Maple neck [with an Evertune put in], Trampas Green, and the Charcoal Burst) and 2 core models. The US made are twins, both in Charcoal Cherry Burst but one is a Custom 24 with a trem (85/15 pups) , the other is a Custom 22 with a hardtail (58/15 pups with PRS metal set ready to be switched).
On to new gear during the shutdown, reading this back it's clear to see I have a problem. Before I list it all, I have sold a few items as well....
Peavey Invective head, Fortin Sigil head and 2x12 cab, Universal Audio Arrow, Schecter Keith Merrow 7 Artist series, LTD M-1000 Series, Sterling Stingray 4 and 5 string, Randall Satan, and pedal after pedal after pedal and I got the Line 6 Helix rack in the day before shutdown through Sam Ash. If Gear Acquisition Syndrome was a real disease, I would be terminal and writing my will.

Just recently grabbed a PRS 245 SE Standard last Friday. I was originally gonna grab one of the Modern series of Epiphone LPs, but I saw guitarathon was going on at all the Guitar Centers in my area. The 245 I saw was very nice with the tobacco burst and creme binding. It played amazingly and just felt like it was meant for my hands. I was glad to have grabbed one that just barely arrived at their store. Still was in the box it shipped in they said.
I love this guitar more than I ever did, and it's honestly the first LP style guitar I ever owned. I tried a friends Epiphone Custom and it was pretty cool, but after playing for more than 30 minutes I could feel the weight and bulk of it wear me out slowly. The 245 tho I didn't stop playing for almost a good 3 hours and then looked up some tabs of my favorite Thrash Metal songs to learn for another 3 hours. I just couldn't put it down. I have an RG from Ibanez and a Jackson Dinky that was my first guitar ever and added Seymour Duncan Distortions. I love that guitar since it holds a special place in my heart, but as you said, the PRS got me more serious to practice harder at guitar. Ironically, I like playing a lot of Dimebag's old riffs and I found it easier to play on the 245. lol Especially the pinch harmonics.

I’ve played a few and they were all wonderful. To be honest, like you said, it’s the one guitar I would buy without playing it ahead of time. I would buy one from a mail order because of their consistency. Never played a bad one. Just my opinion.

When I bought my PRS, I couldn't name a single artist. My dad mentioned that it's his dream brand, but that's all I'd heard of them. I heard about the S2 Satins being released, then about a week later they turned up in my local music shop. I tried it out, factory setup and factory strings and I put a deposit down there and then. Best experience playing a guitar, and it's been my #1 for 4 years

Another thing to love about Paul is today would've been their big plant tour event they do every year. With life as it is, he's posting videos on their youtube page today giving everyone a virtual tour. I think the reason Paul is admired by the community is because you can tell he cares about music, and he believes in what they make in Maryland. Also, a while ago on the PRS owners facebook page a woman shared a story of Paul personally gifting her son a McCarty who was fighting cancer, I believe the story was they were next door neighbors with a close relative of Ted, and they got the story to Paul. If I recall he hand delivered the guitar and signed it for the kid. Can't say I see too many other execs doing things like that, and especially have virtually no publicity about it other than the boys mom who went to Facebook to share.

I have a Core McCarty 10 top in Blue Crab Blue. I have almost 2 dozen guitars including vintage Gibsons and Fenders and several other brands as I've been a player for almost 40 yrs. The PRS is by far the finest piece of art/craftsmanship I've ever seen or played. The attention to detail and quality is unmatched in my collection. Is it my absolute most favorite guitar to play? Not always, but it's way up there. The beauty of the instrument does make me occasionally afraid to damage it, which I've always sworn I would never own a "case queen". It never sees it's case and I am trying to play it a few times a week to get myself over the damage phobia. It's been great watching your channel grow Hunter and I'm very happy for your success! I'm awaiting Nick's (Nick in the States) review of your sig model. I know he's also happy to see how far you've come. God bless and rock on bro!

If it helps, my #1 guitar is my '00 McCarty (Core 10 Top w/ the stock McCarty Pickups swapped to 57/08s, much better match imho), and while I'm usually worried about damaging guitars and hurting their resale value, I've never really worried about damaging the McCarty since it's clear I will almost certainly never sell it. Don't get me wrong, I'm careful with it, but it's never in its case and is my most used (out of 5). If I ding it…oh well. Interestingly, I had a '07 Les Paul Standard that I liked but I wasn't overly fond of the low end, so I tried a bunch of possible replacements, mostly Les Pauls, including a used R8. I found the McCarty (used), tried it, fell in love with it immediately, couldn't afford it, traded my Les Paul for it, and never looked back.

I've met the man himself and he's a great person. A genius and an innovater in my eyes. He told me I was going places and that I was pretty smart. That inspired me. 3 months later I got an SE for Christmas!! It's a great guitar and I love it. I've gone to the factory and seen their attention to detail. Will it be a while before I get a core or CE or s2? Yes, but PRS is my go to, the make everything. From the silver sky's (which i've played, great guitars) to the CE'S (satin neck felt great but was 1500) it's all great. The single cuts, S types, custom 24's, they have it all. For under 1k, get a PRS SE, its a gateway drug. I'm banking on an acoustic SE (those abalone birds are calling my name) after this crazy time ends rn. My SE is a custom 24 with a spalted maple top and it's great. Next thing is definitely an CE or custom.

Paul Reed Smith did actually something very logical.
Take the best features of the Strat and Les Paul and combine them, while eliminating all the things that suck about these models (like crappy tremolo system and outdated headstock design) and then up the quality control to 11.
It´s not exactly rocket science or something and it baffles me,that Fender and specially Gibson can´t be arsed to do something similar.

The person who made me want to get a prs was Michael akerfeldt of opeth. Before the whole world got rona'd, I was in my local music store and they had a green custom 24 (the guitar that I associate with michael) so I immediately grabbed it, plugged it into a laney combo amp and blasted my way through blackwater park by opeth. It was an amazing guitar and I made a promise to myself that once my pay cheque got put through, I would buy that guitar. Unfortunately, as I was about to walk into the shop, someone else had walked out the door with that exact guitar. I struggled to "let go" of the styles of Guitars that I'd grown up with in the 70' 80's... and I couldn't seem to catch on with the more refreshing newer PRS style. It held me back for years. Ya I'd heard all the hype about PRS for a long time...Yada Yada Yada. Never picked one up to try it. One day not long ago, I read somewhere that Paul had from his own pocket, paid his entire staff throughout the factory shut downs in order to keep them " above water, let's face it those were some super down times for ALOT of people. I thought about this, wow what a guy right, I mean..who does stuff like this anymore. Instantly began looking for a PRS to try, ANY PRS. Damn, if nothing else I feel I owe that much to this incredibly caring person! Haven't looked back since. I enjoy playing my PRS guitars. The first time I saw a PRS guitar was the early 1980's. The early PRS guitars were in a few local guitar shops in Maryland a few years before Paul's company officially launched. I was just a teenager visiting Chuck Levin's Music Center, an employee introduced me to the PRS which he thought were cool guitars. He let me try out the guitars while telling me about Paul being a local builder. Honestly, it was love at first sight and I was there to initially look at Les Pauls. You cannot argue that the PRS has been consistent quality build guitars. Gibson and Fender cannot say that, but to be fair those companies have been under different ownership. Even when the Korean made PRSE came out Paul still wanted to refine them into quality-built guitars worthy of the PRS reputation. I've owned a few Epiphones and the build has been up and down. I absolutely love my PRS core and S2 models I own. I tell anyone to watch one of their factory guitars build videos on RUclips and you will see just how meticulous, analytical, observant, and obsessive which each guitar built. My only fear is when a day comes that Paul is no longer steering the ship of this brand, will the new owners share his drive in pursuit of building the best guitar you can possibly make. I say buy'em now before his era sees the sunset.

Tai Yang I was close buying a Custom 24 and later a CE24 but I never pulled the trigger after playing Fender or Gibson alternatives.
I just don’t like the tone. Maybe it falls in-between maybe it’s just not to my taste but it’s just not satisfying at the price. The CE24 was pretty close though and not worse than the custom (except for the trem not being original and the bolt on neck some people don’t like)

    • @taiyang7649
      @taiyang7649 4 года назад

@@bingobongo1615 Yeah, it would be a matter of taste and brand. For the price you surely can get a fender or gibson, but it'd be up to our personal taste and brand preference to choose. Have to say as a PRS owner, you really nailed this video. For me I didn't realise how nu metal association. For me as a younger it was always the looks! Then as I got older it was the quality. I don't have my core yet, but can't wait for the day.

    • @mitsanut5869

      For me, it's both.
It's gotta be excellent quality but it must look absolutely bitching as well.
Imagine Ferrari quality put into Ford Focus.
      How weird is that?
Quality always goes with the looks.
And what makes anything looking really good?
      Attention to details.
      Same with any other instrument.
Well built keyboards on the outside will almost certainly have the best quality components inside it as well.
Otherwise, it just doesn't make any sense to put good shit into something that looks like garbage can on the outside. You won't be able to sell it.

Im new to the PRS family after having purchased my first "used" SE custom 24 about a month ago, and im already considering trading my USA Jackson for another one! (I also speced that guitar on the fly without really knowing what i specs i wanted)
For me the artists that cemented me trying PRS guitars out were Seth Morrison and Korey Cooper (Skillet) and Mark Tremonti (Alter Bridge/ Creed)
Idk what ive been missing all these years until i played one and knew immediately I HAD to have one! I had to make a few upgrades to my 24 as my only gripe was having tuning issues which i got a set up and some locking tuners to hopefully fix that issue
I think your video did a great job of explaining why so many people are keeping eyes on this brand and trying it out for themselves including myself!

Also, the fret work is INSANE. Even on their import models, the fit and finish, even the quality of electronics, is just so so good. I use to play them non stop at my local GC and they always ended up being the guitars I played the most. Not seen the video yet (got family round but clicked so I could find it later) so forgive me if I repeat something in the video. For me personally the quality and feel is second to none, and when you listen to Paul speak, it's clear that he has nothing but love for his products, and nothing but respect for his players. He always comes across as someone who is constantly trying to improve his instruments, and for that you have to give the man props regardless of what you think of PRS.
I've played PRS for years, and will undoubtedly spend thousands more on the guitars, and for me they're the best I can buy. Love them.

the reason i like them is they were created to have the strengths of a gibson and a fender in one guitar with the weaknesses of neither, i like that dont think of their coil splits as an after thought and in some cases actually sound better than single coil guitars, this makes for a super versatile guitar for gigging guitarists, the body shape is great too, classic yet original, and ironically even though some have ridiculously figured tops, the likes of the CE and custom 24 look just as good in black

I ended up buying a SE Custom 24 because of the versatility, so-called consistent quality and appealing looks. However, the first guitar I got was a quite bad. It looked ok (even though there was a small crack in the finish near the neck joint), but it was impossible to get the intonation right, as the adjustment range just wasn't enough. I wonder how that got through in QC. I returned the guitar and got a new one, which has been ok so far, even though the top isn't nearly as good-looking as in the first one.

I can't play a lick. I don't know anything about fret boards, pickups, guitar design...or anything physical that differentiates one guitar from another. What I do know is Paul Reed Smith. And I've known him from the very beginning in his shop in Annapolis. I witnessed first hand his obsession with quality and consistency. Can you imagine how hard it was to send guitars back for rework when they didn't meet his standard and when he could barely make payroll. He sacrificed everything and never compromised. I worked for a supplier that sold finishes to his shop and got to know him and Joe Knaggs. Paul is now what he was then, an obsessed eccentric dedicated to his craft, his employees, and the consumers.

  • @MarbsMusic

#5 surprised me as well but I have to agree... for me though it's the quality and consistency. What I will note is that my Ibanez J Custom is the only other guitar I have that is pretty much on par with my Custom 24. I think the C24 may have a tad more quality on the rosewood (it's the most dense rw I have ever seen, almost like ebony) but quality wise they are very similar. The commonality? They both built by a small but highly skilled group of luthiers. If you ever get a chance to review an Ibanez J Custom, don't pass it up and don't stop saving for the PRS Core, I waited almost 30 years for mine and it's everything I hoped for and more.

I have 3 Kiesels (DC600, Bolt, and Osiris), and love all 3. The thing I like about Kiesel is you get what you want with whatever options and finishes you want, and they're half the price of a typical custom shop build. The main selling point I'd give someone for getting a Kiesel is they have the best damn necks in the world. I live in the northeast US (wicked seasonal temperature and humidity changes), and I haven't had to touch the truss rod or Floyd on my DC600 I bought in 2016 yet and the action is still stupid low. Same goes for my 2018 Osiris. I've messed with my Bolt a few times, but that's only because I've changed what I use it for and stuff (changed pickups, string gauges, tuning, etc). Every other guitar I own, from Gibson, Fender, LTD, Dean, Schecter, gets tweaked every 3-6 months. My 2016 Kiesel is still using the factory setup.

The HFS pickups are just so hot and perfect for hard rock and metal. I also sent back the one in E standard back to the factory and they installed the 24/08 switching system on it for me for $200 in parts and labor (I also had to pay shipping, but oh well) and that's pretty rad too. I've had a Les Paul Standard for two and-a-half years, bought brand new. I've had nothing but problems with the tuning. Every two minutes I need to stop and retune! Yes, I've had techs work on it, cut the nut, lube it, etc etc. I absolutely love playing the electric guitar and this is driving me to distraction! I live in quite a remote part of Australia and can't rely on the cowboys at the local music shop, nor do I want to buy a PRS from them if they even have one; they'll find a way to rip me off, believe me. IF I can learn enough about PRS guitars and can feel moderately assured of their stability, I'll purchase one online. Any input would be very appreciated.
