Felt myself enjoying the view, feeling more and more relaxed about the eight-minute mark. Could almost feel my chair bobbing up and down. Went from Saunders to RMH ten years ago, this video brings back all the fun memories. Thanks. (And i agree with Mr. Heisenberg.)
Hey thanks very much Reinhard. Yeah it's a great canoe trip. I have done the Nordegg to RMH section twice in the past month, never gets old for me. I will go back many more times in the future. The Bighorn Dam, Nordegg, and Saunders are all great spots to start a trip. Yeah I prefer the sound of water and waves over music. Just as it sounds in the canoe. Thanks again, and take care.
Nick i know you have said the river is low but compared to the river's around here that river has some fast water in it for sure. You have some of the prettiest country up there to do what ever you want in. Thanks for sharing it with us.
mike1022ls1 Hello Mike. It is very low, but as you get closer to the source, the grade of the land makes for some faster flowing water. For this time of year, the river should really have over twice as much water as it has right now. Now that would be an exciting canoe trip!!! You said it Mike, love getting out there and just doing whatever I feel like doing. Great to hear from you Mike, ATB Nick.
looks like a good start on the 2nd day ! nice spot for lunch , really like the color of the big river ! great day 2 look forward to the next one ! atb john
the mi woodsman Hey thanks again John. It was a long day with a few miles for sure, but landscape changed and the river sped up a bit. I couldn't get over the color of the water. With the low water level, at least the river stays nice and clean. ATB Nick.
Awesum 2nd part, Nick; Sure was a refreshing trip 2 paddle along on. Nice 2 C U had a lil company at the end. Smokies & Beans is good in my book. Thanks 4 sharing,Friend Happy Trails From Down The Path A Piece ATB Terry God Bless
T.W. Milburn Thanks Terry, it was a long day with quite a few miles, so I was pretty beat that evening. Ha, the dinner didn't look very good, but it tasted just fine, all that matters. Take care my friend. ATB Nick.
Cant beat camping alone. No babbling and distracting companions, no justifying what, where, how when you do anything. Better yet, take a dog. They love camping! :-)
+Red Woods You said it man. I really enjoy camping alone, most of my trips are alone. Yep, if I ever get another dog, he or she is always going to come camping. Thanks, take care.
MI Timberwookie Hey thanks again man. Yeah this 2nd day was the most paddling of the trip. Wore me out good. Glad you enjoyed, thanks for taking the time. How has the fishing been in Michigan?
Fishing has been kinda slow. We have had lots of cold fronts and rain. I have not had a whole lot of time to get after em. When the sun is shining I'm busy mowing lawns.:( Stay safe out there Nick.
Features still looked good even being low. Manageable for being loaded. Sanders? Looked like it be large at more cfm. Not gourmet but my style. Smokeys are always welcome at the table. Thanks for sharing and staying tuned!
NEKCanoeist Thanks Paul, I know I keep mentioning it, but this is the lowest the river has been in many years. They were considering cancelling an annual raft race in the city here due to low levels. But still a great paddle thought!! Saunders Ledge is normally a major feature on the river and has swamped many canoes, I'll have to have a go sometime LOL. I love smokeys too, but I think I need to expand on my menu. Just got in, think I'm going to really enjoy the Mad River M E, had a blast. Take care, ATB Nick.
Mr. Tolly (AKA: fatmantolly) Yeah it was quite hot out there. I fished for a little bit on the first day, didn't catch anything though. I hope to get more fishing done this year.
Hello Nick, just watched day 2, another nice video. Do you use 2 different cameras, maybe a go-pro while in the canoe and a different camera while on shore? As for dinner, I guess you can't have steak every night.
Hello, thanks again. Yeah I use the go-pro while paddling, and a regular digital camera on the shore. With a bit more experience now, I sometimes pull out the digital camera while paddling calm stretches of river. It is not very often that I get to enjoy a steak, so hot dogs and beans it is. But as you know, everything tastes better after a long day hiking or paddling.
I want to do these trips so bad. It's hard when I work so much and have a young family. I'd like to do an overnighter trip though. That would be more do-able. What is that in the case in the fron of your canoe?
This trip to Rocky Mt. House is great, but not one I would recommend for beginners. My first trips were all closer to Edmonton. Genesee to Devon or Edmonton is a good 2 day trip. The case in the front of the canoe is for my fishing rod. Thanks for watching, take care.
Great videos man. I'm new to canoe trips in Alberta but have done on Van Island and Ontario. How does camping work? just first come first get? Do you need a pass or to pay? looks like just the trip I'm looking for.
John Carter Hey thanks John, glad you enjoyed. Pretty much all the land under the high water mark is crown land and free to camp on. There are a few farms and some private land as you approach Rocky Mt. House, but that generally is the last day of trip anyways. Yeah it's first come, first gets it, no passes or fees. It's a great canoe trip!!
Hey Mate, Nice travelling. Noticed you have a Hultafors Axe on the bow and it looks like a custom sheath. Where did you get the sheath? Made it yourself?
+Chas2Can Thanks very much. I really like the Hultafors axe, works great and holds a very nice edge. The sheath came with the axe, ordered it from Bushcraftcanada.com. It is a factory sheath as far as I know. Very nice quality. Take care.
The scenery never disappoint. Enjoyed the video Nick. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks very much David. I appreciate you taking the time.
sweet! Very relaxing trip by the looks of it.
Thanks Stacy. Yes, it is a very nice trip over three days.
These videos are so relaxing
Hey thanks very much. I appreciate the comment.
Wow lovely river 🥰🥰🥰 i love that colour ❤️
Nice place 😇
Greetings from Pacific
Yes it is a beautiful river, and the water color is very nice. Thank you very much, greetings from Canada.

Kelly Riverwalker Thomas Thanks so much. I am really loving that canoe, it's perfect for tripping. Take care.

Sweet trip dude. I always wanted to do a canoe trip.
Thanks very much Bo. It was a real good time. I highly recommend a canoe trip!! Take care.

This has been a great trip so far. You really cover some distance. Awesome adventure.

Great video Nick !
Thank you very much. Glad you enjoyed! Take care.
Another great day. Actually heard a whoop on one of the runs.
Not the best cook though Nick.
Nature Calls LOL, I'm a terrible cook, just a good eater.
Nick, I really appreciate these videos. Beta for my upcoming trip. Do you remember the water level & flow rate for this trip?
Hey thanks Aaron. It was definitely low water. If I had to guess, it was probably around 130-140 cms at Rocky Mt. House. Have a great trip!!
A little dip in the river to cool off, good idea. Those cliffs are awesome, did you get to do any fishing? I thought I saw a case for a rod and reel.
Mr. Tolly (AKA: fatmantolly) Yeah it was quite hot out there. I fished for a little bit on the first day, didn't catch anything though. I hope to get more fishing done this year.
How cold is the water up there? Love to do lots of swimming and cliff jumping along the way
Not too cold in the summer, nice for short swims. It's a very nice trip. Thanks, take care.

@nickharland3795 yea that's fair. I've done a day trip from devon into edmonton. But I'd like to try out an over night trip! Thanks for the replies

Which Souris River model is that and in what size?
It is a Clipper Prospector, 16' in length. Not a Souris canoe, but it is made of kevlar.
What boat are you using?
It is a Clipper Prospector 16'. Thanks for watching.
Where is the day3?
f50koenigg Hello, it should be up now.
What kind of tent is that?
It's an Outbound Saturn 3. Nothing fancy, but good for 2 adults. Luxury for soloing.
