You all prolly dont care at all but does any of you know of a way to get back into an instagram account? I somehow forgot my login password. I would love any assistance you can offer me!
Doesn’t the clearance between the mantle and the non combustible material need to be at least a foot with a hood or 16 inches without? That clearance of non combustible material seemed awfully short to the wood mantle?
I have never seen gas installations like that, here in Ontario, metal liners must be installed in the tile liners, to prevent the tile and mortar from crumbling due to lower gas temps over wood fire(or coal or oil for that matter) and no dampers are allowed due to the fact that they can be inadvertantly left closed and unlike wood fire, no smoke is visible in the house, just c0.Good video anyway.
Interesting. I would have thought that higher temps would cause the mortar and tile to crumble, rather than lower temps. So does this mean that all the tile on my roof and all the mortar in my basement walls will crumble due to lower temps? Yikes!
So what was the point of the flue mortar repair when you opted to use a ceramic log system anyway? You just removed the creosote problem by opting to use the gas heat only system. Seems like an unnecessary cost for the current homeowner.
Kevin is already married long before he first appeared in TOH. In fact, rumor has it that Kevin's wife was offered to be the new host of TOH, but she turned it down and let her husband do it instead.
I know that log sets waste a massive amount of energy. Inserts are way more energy efficient but way more expensive. I know here in New England the cold outside temps cause a lot of moisture build up. I have had to condem many chimneys as a result deterioration caused by log sets. This is a good video for that system but I wonder if it's UL listed.
I don't know about the foam thing through the flue. The useful thing about clay tile is that not much can adhere to them. With that screed of mortar on them they're going catch every particle that goes up the flue.
agreed. Not only does the entire flue now become a resin trap, but those tiles were much better suited (no pun intended) for streaming exhaust fumes out before he roughed the inner walls up so badly. I feel badly for the nice homeowner lady that probably got stabbed badly on that one. wow
I have a couple questions. I always thought wood and gas appliances could never share a flue. How would this be possible exactly in this chimney? Also, shouldn't the flue liner extend about 4" above the chimney? Thanks
You are correct, but I believe he said this is a double flue, so they must be seperate. Wood flue gas does carry a lot of combustible gas. The flue should definitely be 2-6" above the crown. I'm really at a loss that This Old House has so many discrepancies with Chimney work.
Installation instructions for top dampers states that they are not to be installed on a chimney venting gas logs. I would have liked to have seen the finished product in the chimney where the coatings were applied. Out of site out of mind.
we NEVER install gas log with out a safety pilot system gas valve.. If someone happens to turn gas valve on and there no flame to ignite it and house fill up with gas guess what happens when you flip a light switch on ...... BOOM... very dangerous. We have a couple companies in our area that tell every all most every home owner their chimney is not safe due to small gaps. This repair is like 3-4K and not really needed in most cases.. the main reason is to make more money on the job.
+Carl Newton Duh! I would hope every reads your comment, and installs those safety valves! That was totally whack to make that nice homeowner lady have to bend down and light those burners with a lighter! Someone call zoning on these clowns!!! smh
@@rickcox1843 you guys are ridiculous...you act as if there's no precedent for this. Ever had a gas stove? You can easily turn those on, with gas filling the kitchen, and not actually engage the igniter. Combined with the fact that natural gas smells, it's not as big of a problem as you make it out to be. At some point, people need to take responsibility for their own safety...who on earth would turn on the gas and then not immediately light the fireplace?
Video was an F. Didn't show how he got the gas in there. Or if he had to break the old cement there, I noticed he put it inside a little box. He didn't explain anything.
I'm a homeowner but you need to have a natural gas line, consider where you want the ball valve/ignitor combo and it looks like people use flex line once you get to the firebox. I'm still figuring this out too for outdoor nonvented custom fireplace (not insert)
She's just over the moon about being on TV I think. You can generally spot those ones when they are all done up and wearing their best clothes to some dirty house job, and non-stop canned smile. She got a great smile though so not complaining.

Kevin O’Connor not Bacon

If you have vented gas logs in the fireplace can you burn the fire with glass doors closed?
No, doors still need to be opened
Wonderful, the gas line miraculously appears in my existing wood burning fireplace. I can't seem to locate mine, any help here...?
I have watched 5 videos this morning and not one of them shows the gas line being ran.
I had one installed in my firebox when we built our house

The materials clay, cement, lime and sand are naturally resistant to fire and heat.
He says you can burn both gas logs and wood in the fireplace at the beginning. How does that work? Is it an easy switch back and forth?
I think he meant at that current time they could install either
What I was thinking
What are the clearances to combustibles after the application?
You're not supposed to use any manually operated dampers with a gas system. That violates IRC G2427.15.
No it does not

How about a gas log fireplace that's activated by a lightswitch?
We have ours designed for that, but we still don't have the logs yet
Hottest female homeowner in 30 years of the show!
watch the women from under cabinet led lighting install video the bald guy did. She gives this girl a run for her money. Still fapping though
There is a blonde woman that is smoking hot. It's the episode with Tommy fixing the plaster ceiling.

Don't need one
