    My brother was beaten by a group of kids for his winter jacket here in Canada, beaten to a pulp. Broke his face/skull, his ribs, arm etc. They stomped him so bad that when the security guards finally came at the mall and dragged him into the restroom, when my mother and i showed up there was a trail of blood and 2 pools on the floor. I was 9, I'll never forget that sight. He spent months in casts and it completely changed his life. He went from a bubbly, goofy prankster style kid, to angry, impulsive, and forever has the "will never let it happen again", "protector" mentality. The kids were never found, never faced consequences. Neither did the security that kicked them out of the mall 10min before their ride came.
    Kids/people who gang up on 1 person are the lowest of the low, and the fact they faced next to nothing in punishment is atrocious! Those boys should have to WORK to pay off his current and future medical needs, forever!!!! Teach kids their actions have consequences!

      @@le_th_ he was a very skinny kid/teen, after that he started to work out and went through a growth spurt and so thankfully never was picked on again. My heart still hurts for him, all these years later. We have many talks about it still, over 15yrs later. It's hard to see your family member go from being such a happy person to someone different, but it's even harder for him I know. My dad drove around for hours looking for those kids, the jacket they wanted was a very nice jacket back then, and it was a bright white. They beat him so severely that the jacket they stole would never have been able to be worn anyways, from all the blood.
      In my brothers case, they were strangers, wrong place wrong time kind of deal. In this child's case (the video) the fact the kids are known, they know who pushed him into traffic and have forever changed his life and won't face charges is incredibly sad. I can't fathom what his family is going through, and I don't understand the justice system sometimes. People want to say "they're young, they didn't know", it's such a cop-out! Young children know better, teens absolutely know better. Sorry for rambling lol, it's just hard seeing stuff like this happen so often. We really need to start teaching kids/teens better coping mechanisms for their emotions and other ways to take out their anger and frustrations. I truly believe that would help a lot with tragic cases like this young man.

    I think it is warranted for the family to “lawyer up” and go after the families of those boys who committed this crime. It’s not going to remedy Angel and restore him to who he was previously but at least it would alleviate financial problems in the future for this family. Also, I used to be in a doctoral program in which I learned a lot about TBI *traumatic brain injury. Angel is definitely in one of the best places where he can relearn basics and hopefully later build himself up again one day at a time. Sending love and light to this family may they be blessed financially, heal physically and emotionally from such a horrific experience.

      @livyann2143 Год назад +11

      @@sec0ndton0ne408 the costs for angel will be lifelong. I think you underestimate the burden of the cost of this type of care. A USED wheelchair accessible vehicle can cost $25k, insurance will not cover a dime of it. An electric custom wheelchair is another 10-15k. Homecare services can cost up to $500/day. The medical supplies (I see he's on a trach and likely a feeding tube, he probably also has a long term catheter or uses diapers) are easily another $100/day. Even with great insurance, many costs won't be covered. For example lots of insurances won't cover feeding tube formula, let alone the healthiest whole food ones available for people with few digestive issues (which I'm assuming is the case since angel probably did not end up with GI issues from this horrible crime). Medications for him such as anti seizure meds, breathing treatments, pain meds, etc can cost over a thousand a month without insurance, probably $200-500 with insurance just for 3-6 common medications. Not to mention, LOST WAGES because he's going to need at least one family member available 24/7, or several that take shifts. Add in an ICU stay where a week can cost 100k without insurance (and he was in there for months) and rehab where my insurance was billed for 1k/day and I required much less intensive care after my stroke. Home physical therapy and occupational therapy visits I'd say 2x a week, plus follow up doctors appointments, even with good insurance copays are typically around $30-50 so 4-5x that for all the appointments...
      I think you get the picture. Even if this family files for bankruptcy, the costs are so immense and lifelong. Eventually angel might qualify for disability and get insurance through that, but that still requires copays for every. Single. Item. $10-20 for every medicine, every appointment, every type of item sent from a DME, etc. That doesn't even include things insurance will refuse to cover and out of pocket costs like baby wipes or supplements. I know this from experience. And you know what disability pays a month? $1500. My out of pocket costs without copays are about $300 a month right now and I require MUCH less care than angel. Especially if a lawyer steps up probono, the family won't have to do a lot for the lawsuit, just show up at hearing dates. No one person can be there 24/7 for angel, caregivers need breaks as well. Getting this money and putting some of it in a trust for angels care after his parents pass will ensure angel continues to receive care and not end up in a nursing home. If he gets on disability, a nursing home would be covered but he's still a child. I don't care if he's aware enough or not, but this kid doesn't deserve to also go through the horrors patients go through at nursing homes .

      @livyann2143 Год назад +3

      @@sec0ndton0ne408 the reality is bills are already coming in. As I said about the wheelchair van, that money is typically needed up front. If they want to get their kid home sooner, it would be wise to start it now. He will be in rehab for months, even up to a year, and while family will/can visit, there's set visiting hours. I don't think you understand how a family adapts to something like this. In critical moments, they want to be there 24/7. As he is more stable, the family can take breaks. Heck, the family can take turns coordinating with a lawyer. Also as I said, with the money they won't have to work as much, which means more time with their child. This isn't even to mention that sometimes depending on the laws, this stuff IS time sensitive. The perpetrators/perpetrators families could be long gone as well if they wait years. I'm not saying the family dedicate every waking moment to a lawsuit, but a couple hours a week in the big scheme of things is reasonable. Basically, start it sooner, it ends sooner. This is to provide for their son, which I think is pretty critical, equally as important as spending time with him.

    The peer pressure, perhaps their true evil nature, empowerment of belonging to a social circle, drugs, and more contribute to bad decisions like the ones who attacked this boy.
