Design & Aesthetics
Let’s start by comparing the design and appearance of the bidets. Both offer a sleek and slim design with each measuring just under 5 inches at the maximum height. This compares to most bidets which are 5 and a half to six inches or taller.
The Discovery DLS has a slightly more rounded shape across the back of the unit, and a narrow section of the rear housing is visible with the Bio Bidet logo.
The S550e is straighter across the rear for a bit more of a “U” shape. You can also see that the lid of the S550e goes all the way back covering all of the rear housing.
The water supply for both models connects on the left side of the unit as you are facing the toilet. On the S550e, the water hose comes attached and is a bit farther back, tucked under the rear of the unit. The electric cord extends from this same side as well.
The water inlet is a bit farther forward on the Discovery DLS with the inlet angled down so the hose extends down rather than out to the side. But the electric cord is on the opposite side, which is the right side if you’re facing the toilet.
A unique option with the TOTO S550e is that there are two different lid styles available - contemporary or classic - so you can choose which lid design you like best.
Feature Differences

Another area of difference is in the water volume, which measures the total water output for each model. The Discovery DLS puts out 0.6 liters per minute at the maximum spray level. The S550e has a slightly lower output closer to 0.5 liters per minute at its maximum.
The S550e has an adjustable spray width so you can choose between a narrow concentrated spray or a wider softer spray. This is a feature the Discovery DLS does not have.
The TOTO S550e also has an e-water misting system which uses electrolyzed water to mist the sides of the toilet bowl before use. The bidet uses e-water to help sanitize the wash nozzle too.
The Discovery DLS has its own nozzle sterilization feature, but uses UV light instead. It uses UV light to sterilize the nozzle every time the nozzle retracts into the seat.
And while you can’t sit on the lid of most other bidet seats, the Discovery DLS also has a sturdy lid you can sit on.
The S550e does have an automatic air deodorizing function however. You can see the vents for the air deodorizer at the very back of the unit.
