    It takes real talent to redesign a difficult architectural space. You have fabulous design ideas and your videos are relaxing to watch. I moved from a larger house after separation, to a smaller house. It was a challenge to scale down but I like a smaller house.

      @behuman5725 - Oh Honey, I hear ya!!!! We moved to a Ranch Home, which is what I want when we first looked at homes over thirty five years ago, but that's another story. We scaled back after thirty-five years, well, mainly because neither one of us are in our Thirties anymore, and we wanted to be closer to the Grandboys.

    One thing I rarely see in any modern design is a decent-sized desk. Not just a tiny put-your-laptop-on table. A desk on which you could put a newspaper, a canvas, a 1000-piece puzzle, or just do your homework.
    I would love to see a tiny/small house redesign that incorporates some really nice desk-space^^

    • @janepage3608

      @wendybutler1681 6 месяцев назад +2

      Exactly. I sew and do crafty stuff. Where to store my tools, etc? I have clothes. I have holiday decor. I have tire chains I prefer not to carry in the summer. Where do people put that kind of stuff in a house like this?
      The bedrooms were big enough to not have to stand on the bed to make it. I didn't get a claustrophobic vibe at all. All the white walls and natural light do a good job of making it seem open and airy.
      The redesign of this was beautifully done. Not a detail overlooked. A comfortable, livable home. And unique!

    It's really annoying with 'listing' as they would rather see a building fall down than have someone restore it in a way that they don't agree with, makes no sense. I KNOW that there are many horrific restorations out there but honestly it is worth the risk to save them.

    • @pdq5465
      @pdq5465 9 месяцев назад +19

      I totally agree. Councils & historical societies want these places saved, but then make those who are saving them jump through hoops. Plus, getting approvals costs a lot of money. It’s a wonder that anyone bothers.

    • @kkerr1953
      @kkerr1953 8 месяцев назад +11

      It sounds like most of them just want someone to “save” and “restore” the original building without any thought to actually being able to use it. Almost like a museum piece. Who has the money for that?

      Im in bradford listed buildings here vary, I've see Victoria shop fronts ripped of and red plastic front replacement .a local shop in an old coach house had the side ripped out and a supermarket type glass entrance hall fitted . The worst was a victotian stone bungalow extended 3 stories with artificial stone that looked nothing like the real stuff and a galvanised roof fitted

    I'd use the door near the living room as my "formal" or guest entrance. I think it's very welcoming with a built-in bench and wonderful window. I'd use the door near the kitchen/dining as my personal utility door for toting groceries and taking out garbage. Of course, that assumes I'd have a room for parking near said door. In any event, always enjoy your clever, creative and realistic designs. Cheers, from California.

    That's a beautiful idea and use of space. Given the layout though, this seems it would work best as either a 1 bed property or a luxury Air b n b / holiday let - in which case you could get rid of the downstairs bedroom and maybe have a dual aspect fire and more free flowling living space downstairs - but in any case, listed building status shouldn't mean that buildings are left to rot - there should be enough judgement and skill to enable sympathetic upgrading to ensure no loss of use -

    Really well designed! The placements of windows in the add-on is genius! This could actually work well for a family too, the upstairs bedroom could be the children's, and the the bathroom which I love, might be a good study room with a central desk to become a bath later on.
    If it were only for a couple, the downstairs bedroom could be a home office with possiblity of a foldable single guest bed of some kind.
    Your entire plan makes this tiny house surprizingly flexible! What's fantastic is it presents two very social spaces, with very different character, the kitchen that lets in the sky and garden, and the snug livingroom which is a very cosy enveloped spot that actually seats at least 4 people.
    The upstairs toilet is really a necessity though. If the planning permission wouldn't allow it, I'd simply invest in a toilet that combusts, turns everything into fine ash (they are costly but amazing) or another modern composting toilet, just to have that option. You took a kindof hopeless but cute building of historic interest and turned it into a real, livable home, very impressive! ❤

    Though I was seeing other solutions I have a hunch that there were even more parameters for the extension than were given in this short video I really appreciate sharing this and feel the time is ripe for smaller dwellings and treasuring listed buildings and bringing them forward into this century

    I'm always amazed at how cleverly you use space, but this original building is beautiful, and most people who would want to live in it would want the character of the materials, such as the old stonework to be featured and used as inspiration, not covered by smooth, white walls and modernity.

      I was especially thinking that if the ceilings were removed upstairs, the extra height would give a sense of space. The ceilings would be vaulted with exposed beams for structural integrity and the required insulation inside the upper roof panels,

    Always love your videos. I think if I were the owner, I'd want to just knock down that newer rectangle, and build it only as the hexagonal building, even if it's a bit of a tiny home.

    so charming and innovative. My main question is always this: do British people have very few possessions? The closet/wardrobe space is really small for the amount many Americans have even after they declutter and reduce what they own. I get that this is a tiny house but still...............

    Very nice solution. Surprizingly enough I like you treatment of the swag light in particular It's a small detail but running it from the ceiling angle literally ties this space together. My only other comment is that I would have you yo go a step further and incorporate a guest BR on the main as you already have a bathroom. BTW, you often start with location & map, missing here, which is useful in understandig sun angles. thanks

      True. I didn’t spend much time considering the sun this time. The building itself was so limiting, figuring out what would fit with that was my main focus. There’s a link in the description to the building so you can take a look though.
