Very cool! Great use for building the layout. I just ordered myself a laser cutter as well (different brand/model), and can't wait to start creating. Thanks for sharing!

Yeah, I need to learn the software better now. Tons of potential.

I have an Otur Laser Master 3 ( same basic machine) and the uses are really endless. Using it for way more than I ever planned.
Look up ramp test for focus. Most are not set right with the included spacer. Mine was off about 3mm and now I am getting a lot crisper engravings on smaller engravings.
I planned on using it to make buildings and such for my layout, but I use cereal boxes to make stencils for painting. Can also cut painters tape to uses as paint masks. I also make jigs for gluing and positioning of various irregular shaped objects using cereal boxes if just one-ofs. Can very easily make grade crossings even on curved track... Possibilities are really endless. Can't wait to see other uses you find.
When getting a honeycomb base (basically a necessity) make sure magnets will stick. Some are all aluminum. Really helps with thin wood as it is never perfectly flat, and you need flat for the laser cutter.

Ah, great idea with the magnets. I was just using my 1-2-3 blocks as weights to hold things in place but some of my neodymium magnets might work a lot better since they wouldn’t interfere with anything, assuming they aren’t in the cutting path.

I am assuming you will do an N-Track module with this. How cool.

I always thought that sqrt of -4 is 2 x sqrt of -1(j ot i) could not see the rest of the shirt.....oh well.......love the shirt and the laser. Video was just what I'm looking for. I'm checking either these folks or xTools($$$)

Looking forward to seeing some examples of cutting acrylic if you have plans to do.

Great video Steve. I'll be getting one of these if I can source one in the UK.

I’m sure there are similar units available under different names if you can’t find this one.

I am so TRIGGERED! How dare you provoke us by wearing a shirt that says "sqrt -4 = 2" and NOT show us what it says underneath that!! ARGGHHH!!! Kidding aside, thanks for this. Very informative.

Yeah, unfortunate camera angle. The shirt says “It’s all fun and games until someone loses an i” or something like that.

@@StevesTrains That is probably the nerdiest joke I've ever heard. But it made me LOL.

We are a very math and science heavy household (fields my wife and I have degrees in) so I’m all about the math and science jokes and puns. Lol.

You should never cut PVC with a laser!
"Although polyvinyl chloride (PVC) can in fact be cut with laser, the thermal process produces hydrochloric acid and toxic fumes. For this reason, we advise you not to use laser for cutting PVC in order to prevent corrosion of your laser system and to ensure the safety of the machine operator."
