Many in the comment says “oh I won’t step on one” I would have the same mindset, but then 737 MAX reminded us, a good reputation doesn’t mean their planes is fool proof. Any competition is good competition. Boeing…fallen from grace just because they don’t have competition. While Airbus they are bossy enough to cancel Qatar’s order because defects they deemed not “an safety issue”. A 3rd option can force and remind the other two to watch out.
I don't know, after hearing about the range issue, I'm worried this might just end up being another Dassault Mercure, essentially a French 737-200 with less range.
@@randomscb-40charger78 they already have 600 orders. Iran is also a very big market for aviation. Due to sanctions they are unable to get any aircraft whatsoever. Wiki sayes list price $112 million, so Ryanair would expect them for half price $56 million with a large order. Will the COMAC be able to compete with a discounted $56m 737 max 900 ER.
Excellent, comprehensive video. One correction. I was an officer at International Aero Engines AG in the late 1980’s to mid-1990’s. We were developing the MD90 with McDonnell Douglas. “China Trunkliner” was in its early stages. This was a Shanghai Aircraft produced MD$82 for the domestic market. As the MD90 took shape, China wanted to also produce the MD90. Catic insisted on coproduction of the IAE V2500-D5 in China. In other words they wanted to steal the engine design secrets. IAE and our five nation partner governments wisely refused. The MD90 co-production aircraft never happened.
What are the multi-year operating costs? If the acquisition and operating costs are low enough, you could base an entire airline in Denver and reach the entire lower 48 with it.
Finally, a great cover for a medium haul competitor! It’s rather surprising that COMAC didn’t even consider making a B767/A300 type widebody for mainland flights. It would definitely sell like hotcakes to Asian markets which currently utilize big widebodies at about half capacity for domestic routes. Low cost carriers in SEA region like Cebu Air, Vietjet, and Air Asia wouldn’t say no for a cheap brand new widebody that would save them more money in the long run.
@@ex0duzz The CR929 is slated to be a competitor to the B787/A330, which currently is too big for the medium haul routes predicted to take off (no pun intended) in the coming years as point-to-point travel becomes more commonplace.
@@DontUputThatEvilOnMe Maybe I do, but so does Chinese carriers. China pulled out from the CRAIC joint venture for obvious reasons, which severely crippled their future plans. Boeing also publicly said that they’ll be cancelling any plans for B797/NMA project as the tech to do it sustainably wasn’t there yet, while Airbus seemed to push their luck with the A321XLR. If anything, it’d be a miracle if the C929 even be materialized within this decade.
@@Nafeels didn’t know China pulled out of CRAIC. But I have seen talk about Boeing cancelling their NMA is a strategic lie. This is because their new CEO has done things like this in the past and it would be to Boeing’s advantage if Airbus is unaware of the new program. But only time will tell.
I am not an aviation expert, but the fundamentals of the new Chinese airliner seem noticeably better than the Boeing 737. Which was developed way back in the 1960s. The COMAC C919 does not come across like a copy, but an improved version of the 737. Maybe it's more like the Airbus A320? I really took notice of the added ground clearance, higher wings and better placement of the engines!.. Time will tell, but I like the starting point.
@@JB-nt5lu Both the A320 and the C919 have better fundamentals than the ancient 737 airframe with its shoehorned new engines screwing up the plane's balance and aerodynamics. Then there is the disturbing amount of wing flex, and fuel leaking out during takeoff??? Watch... "Fiji Airways 737 MAX 8 Takeoff from Wellington with Lots of Wing Flex and Wingtip Vortices" It's better for the Chinese to go their own way as much as they can. Keeping it classy. Beware the Boeing apologists making excuses for everything. Even trying to make all the disturbing things sound good or normal.
@@gelinrefira That's a good point. What were the Chinese supposed to do, put the engines on top of the wings? That would have been great fun for the passengers. I see substantive improvements, not copying. I'm old enough to remember the Japanese being accused of copying in the 1980s and 90s, but they were more innovative than that. There was also better quality and refinement. That competition inspired my fellow Americans to do better, but there was a lot of anti-Japanese/anti-Asian bitterness being expressed. Now I see the same ugly reactionism toward the Chinese. My fellow Americans should focus more on what we are doing, or what we are not doing, but should. If we started copying some of the things that the Chinese are doing, that would be progress.
@@harleyearl3289 fuel comes out the end of the wings as its designed too. when fueled, cold fuel expands and needs to vent. during taxing, it can happen if the fuel temp rises a lot. wings also flex as they are designed too. they even change during flight as supercritical wings are more efficient. the b737 looks old because the fuselage is a chopped down from the b707 - the 1st boeing jet offering. so the design is 70 years old.
It should have mentioned that the aircraft has a range of 2,200 nautical miles, enough for most domestic Chinese and regional routes. The C919 can seat 158 to 168 passengers.
CONGRATULATIONS ,a well done and beautiful job to China. More R&D is further required to work closely along with the various components , control devices and accessaries.
What is the current state of russian aviation? Do they have anything domestic to replace the airplanes that is going to run out of flying hours soon? Will Comac be crucial to replace other brands (with russian engines?) ?
Yep, TU-214, will be upgraded to modernised CM spec, so two pilot cockpit (was already done some time ago but never really produced), SJ100 new is already flying with PD8 engines, Irkut MC-21 is flying with PD14 engines, so soon to be delivered, Avionics now run on JetOS, there are other beauties, like il-114-300, close to certification and of course the super mega awesome IL-96-400, but that one will most likely be only used for government services and not commercially (shame). Some smaller projects like Ladoga are also running but that is a small plane. Russians finally stuck their heads out of their asses and will rebuild domestic aircaraft manufacturing to the max potential. Oh an if someone thinks they cannot produce semiconductors for their Aviation sector, please just Google Russian semiconductor industry and grow up.
I think this plane looks great, but no airline where I am from will ever have them, I doubt the c919 or the Irkut mc-21 will ever land in north america which is too bad because both planes look fantastic.

I could feel this is a humble video, the way it presents the C919 to the world is more humble and comfortable rather than usual chinese TV program style (I.e. 《厲害了,我的國》(英語:Amazing China). By the way, Russian has MD21 > they already installed their homemake engine against international sanction. Chinese has C919 > they have no homemake commercial grade engine (YET). Just wonder what are Chinese's contingency plan against international sanction on engines and critical aviatronic equipment? Anyway it is a good starts > just like Toyota rollout her first model in 1920s > now it becomes an automobile industrial gaint. So Boeing and Airbus really see COMAC as a threat and serious competition in the future (not like the scale of Embraer, Bombardier nor De Havilland!!!)
🤔 The father of Boeing is Chinese Wong Tsu, the first chief engineer of Boeing. He talked about how to innovate the aircraft's qualities to be known as the first Boeing passenger aircraft. See RUclips channel The Museum of Flight and YT channel "Hot topics time" We're almost all from other countries and very few of us are 100% natural native American Indians. I can say I believe I'm "American" the proverbial meaning of a typical USA citizen. But as the largest ethnic group, Germans, even I was taught we're almost all from other countries who came to the US and moved to anywhere life has more abundance of naturally available resources and helping others to live a healthier happy life too 😀 but recent years since tte pandemic we see many fake belief systems proven to be a front for greedy corporations treating people as Sheeple for profits over people's interest and thus we're relearning from our past innovations to help improve many ways. 👍 Thank you for your attention to modernization and developments.
@@didyoumissedmegobareatersk2204 only the history lesson here reminds us Chinese have been often not credited in our history books, for growing our US economy in various ways. Also Chinese largely helped with hard work building our original railways, yet not much references in our history books. Many were promised pay and fair treatment yet many unfortunately were abused or often killed off with owners going unpunished and paid much less respect as slaves, similarly as Natural Native Indians were mistreated. And European "popularized Italian foods" taking credit for "noodles, pasta & pizza" originally long ago was brought by famous "Marco Polo" traveling back from China, introduced various original foods & recipes to Europe, Plus various things including the original technology of the first Boeing passenger aircraft too. Mr Boeing's efforts promoted Boeing same as Elon Musk promoted Tesla when no other "investors" were interested.
It has been speculated (and refuted, of course) that the bodies of hundreds of unpaid Chinese railroad workers would be found at the bottom of Lake Tahoe today...preserved by the ultra cold temperatures down there. I wouldn't be surprised if this was true...even after all the 'fact-checking'...🤔🤨🧐
Even then it would be hugely successful, because China's internal airplane market is absolutely massive. State owned airlines and even done private ones will favor the national alternative, resulting in automatic guaranteed orders in the thousands.
It will most likely be restricted due to the Western governments policy to contain China. China is well-aware of this factoid, but they are patient, strategic, and relentless in their "journey of a thousand miles". They have their space-station now after being excluded from the ISS. Their EV technology is arguably the best in commercial buses and passenger cars. May God bless their humility and patience.
The Asian market will accept the chinese plane. Boeing having issues with their 747 and lost of confidence worldwide, is a good time for Comac to take the market.
Its inauguration flight is 2012, refered to 2018 Wikipedia. Number built is 10 as of Dec 21, 2022. FAA just endorsed 919 in the last minute, most airlines in China hardly buy it. Such a promising jetliners. ......
Excellent video on the advent of the Chinese aviation market . The ARJ21 is just the beginning of the commercial aviation industry in China notwithstanding the assistance provided by the West !
The Chinese may have something here. "Most airlines do not care about the latest carbon fiber components or lowering CO2 by 20%" Neither does anyone who flies in the US. We fly Southwest because we want the cheapest. Building a aircraft that carries 190 to 250 passengers with a range of under 3000 miles is ideal for the domestic Chinese market. That said, I think COMAC is decades from being in Boeing or Airbus radars. But the Chinese are very patient.
completely agree. they also learn and develop extremely quickly. chinese cars were trash in the 2000s and now they have companies that build some of the best EVs out there.
@@oxcart4172 Actually 95% of people communicating about environment get paid to do so, but they don't give a fkuc. Then, 99.99 of lambda people believe them, thinking there are some global political effort to save Earth; people aren't aware it is all a huge lie and will remain so. Example, the solar panel is not what it is : yes, it's "free" and (almost) "carbon-free" energy once operational, but 1) it's as dirty as fossil energy to produce, very toxic and at the expense of large landmass destruction, and 2) once dead, it becomes garbage twice as dirty as fossil deposits... and 3) you can't use only solar (or wind), those require gas, coal fallback when not producing enough energy, meaning, you actually build as much dirty CO2 factories park as solar factories to make electricity for cities and industries. That's why companies like GP, Total, ELF (...) are funding solar, wind and hydrogen, because that's one efficient way to ensure their infrastructure remains operational - business. People aren't doing solar panels to save Earth, they are doing it because you get 80% of the money for FREE. And it's pretty much the same for everything else.
I read that the prototype of the bigger CR929 200+seater is either completed or near completion. The CR929 is jointly produced by Russia and China. I suppose the R stands for Russia. I am sure there will be a CR939.....and others.
its interesting then why the chinese just put in a bumper order for the airbus a320 series of aircraft. the c919 will need composite wings to get the weight down, but im sure thats possible in future as china seems to be able to scale and adapt quickly. just look at their car industry.
Should the counterfeiting claims turn out to be proved, could they be in danger of being confiscated and crushed if they land in certain jurisdictions?
That could be impossible to confiscate even proven with evidence; look at fake islands that China built in Philippine door step. United Nations court ordered Chinese to get out, but Chinese said “I won’t what you gonna do”?
ARJ21 and C919 are wonderful airplanes ! By watching them taking off steady into sky and land down gently, safely on ground! They're just the beautiful airplanes with good safety, value for it's prize ! 👌🙏
Philosophy: Aeronautical engineers make a beautiful aircraft, and believe that pilots will destroy his creation. Pilots believe that the aero engineers are just trying to kill us. Ask me how we know.
Most people don't understand how difficult and complex it is to make machines that safely lift more than 100 people up in the air. A light weight machine that is strong enough. A fuel efficient design will be best.
Always informative Sky! The 919's development is logical and the strategy sound. It a certain, that the strategy will try to balancer an EASA-FAA domination, stained by the 737 MAX and the FAA's relationship. There's still a part of me that wishes Asia coming into these new markets could innovate more instead of chasing after what the Werst does. When I go to China and see their SUVs, it's like any other. I wish they could add more Asian flair dot them, if not on the design part.
They’ll undercut price (with government support) to the point one of the low cost carriers will buy some. Hopefully the main stream carriers don’t bite.
They're not targeting at the US market. Mostly like domestic (China), Africa, and LCCs in developing regions like SE Asia. That's enough to keep them fed for awhile.
To say all this is not just McDonnell Douglas making the DC-9 and 10 in China, but Airbus was the first aircraft manufacture to build a facility in Tianjin to assemble A320s, this could also lead toward Airbus and it’s new market of strategy. Companies like Mitsubishi, and Honda from Japan are also in the works but most likely it is more possible to see Qantas using a passenger aircraft build by a company from Japan than in a COMAC- C919. Markets ready not to count Airbus out as Airbus acquired Bombardier from Canada and yet soon Airbus will have a Korean manufacture under their belt; that projects on the next A320 will be the most fuel efficient passenger aircraft in the world not to say what Airbus will do next after the failure of the Boeing 737 MAX 9 yet a newer more state of the art Airbus A320 plane; could be on the works of a Boeing failure in South Korea. But in that case COMAC-C919 could have a tough time competing with Boeing and Airbus while Boeing where to fail in South Korea, then Airbus acquired Korea Aerospace Industries and gets involved with the F-21 Hawk project known as Boramae as government contracts switched to be in favor of Airbus and Airbus will probably end up working with NASA and probably be involving with South Korea’s space projects; to say potential for Airbus will be the Airbus Korea division will be more successful and South Korea becomes Airbus country that all South Korean Airliners will only use Airbus and nothing else.

Lovely presentation. Very good introduction of C919, keep it up
Excellent, comprehensive video.
Actually 2 MD90 were produced in China. The program was then cancelled by Boeing after it took over MD.
Great video. Very informative and objectively fair.

That's what CR929 is, no?
@@ex0duzz The CR929 is slated to be a competitor to the B787/A330, which currently is too big for the medium haul routes predicted to take off (no pun intended) in the coming years as point-to-point travel becomes more commonplace.
Well it took them 10 years to build this aircraft. You are asking too much.
But thg e A320 SUCKS.
Well, it has two wings, a T-tail, 2 engine so obviously according to westerners, it is a copy stolen from Boeing.
@@JB-nt5lu Both the A320 and the C919 have better fundamentals than the ancient 737 airframe with its shoehorned new engines screwing up the plane's balance and aerodynamics.
Then there is the disturbing amount of wing flex, and fuel leaking out during takeoff???
Watch... "Fiji Airways 737 MAX 8 Takeoff from Wellington with Lots of Wing Flex and Wingtip Vortices"

Chinese has C919 > they have no homemake commercial grade engine (YET).

It is time for some competition in the commercial aviation field in the world. This is wonderful specially after the 737 max fiasco.
We will see if it ever gets FAA or EASA certification if not it will be restricted to Chinese’s airspace
