Bill Hicks already nailed that joke: "Someone told me, "You know that it takes more energy to frown than it does to smile?", I said, "You know that it takes more energy to point that out than it does to leave me alone?" -Bill Hicks
Yes. This one doesn't count as plagiarism bc she did warp it her own way....
But yeah, sprinkle Hicks and Carlin liberally throughout a boring monologue, smile frequently- presto, HBO/netflix special. Then again, in all fairness they did take all the good material, no?
No offense to 'funnymen(women)"... But ya gotta tell some uncomfortable truths and trample some taboos to get my attention. That Hicks joke was 'scathing and savage' for 1989. Enough shielding ppl 'just trying to be nice.' What are they nice for? My benefit? Just suffer in silence like all the other decent adults. Whining is what you subject actual friends and family to, not perfect strangers.
Yeah, that's funny. I would actually laugh if I was in the audience. Bill Hicks had a think about it and he made something fairly banal into a joke. This woman sometimes sort of recognises that something could be funny, but she can't work out where to go from there. I expect it's the fault of the patriarchy.
Did you know Hannah Gadsby is funnier than this pointless and cruel video?
@@nathancorliss9347 to each his/her own.
@@nathancorliss9347 Also important to point out is that giving your opinion about how funny you think a comic is has nothing to do with cruelty. That is one of the many problems with today's leftists, sadly, they have no dictionary or concepts of history and the meaning of words, which makes them so weak. Beating, insulting, screaming at and spitting on people with a different opinion than you is a form of cruelty, though, and by definition bigotry. I'm not saying you did that, but that is what Antifa and BLM are doing all over the world right now.

When everything about you is about your sexuality. You don’t have an identity.
As someone who is a homosexual, the only way I feel oppressed in America as an INDIVIDUAL, is the fact that every corporation WANTS me to feel oppressed as a "sexual minority" or some dumb shit. It's like saying the killing of George Floyd was racially motivated...if YOU say that, YOU'RE the one that's looking at color, which, inherently, is racist. Because the thing is, Derrick Chauvin (the murderer of George Floyd) had dirty shit on him MONTHS before he killed Floyd, and if it didn't happen to him, it would've happened to someone else.
The point I'm trying to get across is the fact that I don't want to be labeled by my sexuality, because once that becomes a normal thing to do in culture, then you're literally trying to give gay people an oppressed mentality, and the longer they have that mentality, they will literally hate themselves, which in turn causes self-deprecating oppression (essentially oppressing yourself, which sounds silly, but you'd be surprised by just how far mental illness can actually get to an individual's mind). There's a reason why I don't have a problem with the "f" word (the slang towards gay people that I generally to describe most millennial neck-beards, but I feel like RUclips's shit moderation will immediately detect the word in this comment section and send me to the gulag), because I completely get why you would want to use it impulsively, considering that modern masculinity is on the brink of collapse.
The most bigoted thing in America right now is the establishment that, quite literally, treats anyone that is "marginalized" in some way as if they're too incompetent to solve their own problems without the need of the big guy, which in itself is extremely bigoted, but they'll still blame it on "thE wHite mAn".

Instead of off broadway, it's not quite Tedx
@Wall Cutter why insult someone you dont know personally just seems uncalled for
if your life consists of watching videos on youtube then you might think so
Wall Cutter: people have been ripping Trump for decades (remember Home Alone segment) its just that it has gone into overdrive for the last 5 years and is becoming very monatone. It’s lazy humour and comedians are supposed to be professional funny people who create “new” funny segments to make people laugh. Hannah was simply regurgitating the same woke feminist tripe that her type had been doing for decades and it is not funny at all. And btw she is wrong, women do ask men a lot to smile but I suppose it is only assumed as an offensive thing to do when it’s part of the feminist victim narrative.
Being woke is the easiest thing in the world. It doesn’t take that much energy to be ignorant and refuse to take responsibility for your personal actions in favor of blaming a third party.
I enjoyed the, "Takes more muscle to frown than to smile" joke.
I especially enjoyed it when Bill Hicks did it 30 years ago. The punchline was, "you know it takes more energy to point that out than to leave me alone?"

It's a smug comment from know-it-all jackasses trying to belittle people. Honestly, I don't know why such people care about someone else's facial expression, like they think someone else's sadness or bad mood will affect them somehow.
@@cartwright8920 Or they are just trying to cheer you up? Same reason people tell jokes, I guess.
I’m a woman, and my ex-husband based my moods and entire personality just on the look of my face while I’m chilling and working around the house. The corners of my mouth just turn down, and my bottom lip pooches out and down a bit from my overbite. I literally cannot help it. And I heard him tell me how angry I was every single week, while told him I wasn’t. But he never asked me to smile or tried to make me smile, he just looked at me and got mad.
I'm from NZ, and yet even I feel compelled to apologise for this travesty of a special - Aussies have a lot to answer for here.
Never heard of her before, and now I'm upset I have.
You just described my exact thought for every "famous" person that somehow I am made aware of for the last 20 years.
Yes, we will never get those minutes back again 😩
lol
Me too.
Oh dear glory, me too. SMH 🤦🏾♀️
Watched Her first Netflix "comedy" special. It wasn't a stand up comedy routine. It was a Ted talk. It's basically How She learned to cope and get through life. That's fine, but don't promote it as stand up comedy when its not. I think Netflix took out user reviews a little bit after Her first special came out.
I just had to stop it. Worst stand up ever. It's after that I found who she really is...
Amen...
No, it was after Amy "Fumer"
@Ryder Patrick Layne So true!
Feminist "Comedian". The premise itself is the only thing about this chick that is funny.
Feminist Comedian is an oxymoron.
They're jokes themselves.

Comedienne
Ok, I laughed when Matt said if he transcribed her act & read it back, you would think it was somebody's therapy session.
What women get: 'You have such a nice smile, I wish we got to see it more.'
What men get: 'You look like an unapproachable grump, did your wife pour vinegar in your cereal this morning?'
A girl literally told me I look like shit once. Completely unprovoked, like I didn't even know her. Who does that? Meanwhile you dare tell a girl she looks pretty or whatever they're like '"oMG hArrAssMeNt". Man I wish I was told I'm pretty more often, instead of calling me a mutant lol
I find the best way to respond to inappropriate or unnecessary comments is with extremely inappropriate comments.
For example in response to either above smile scenario respond with: I’m sorry I was just pondering.
Pondering what?
Well I was wondering whether or not I could kill every single person in this room with my pen, without getting a single drop of blood on my person. (Long pause). You know what? I think I could. Then flash a big smile and walk away.
An unapproachable grump. Love it, that's my ex LOL
@@TGuard00014 You might get arrested for that as it could be considered a threat. Probably not a good idea.

It truly is astounding that Hannah has a career in comedy.
Corporate compliance! She is an enterprise - I suspect her handlers are deal makers who peddle egalitarianism. Chapelle may have kicked that over - we will wait & see.
“Career”

Q: How many feminists does it take to change a lightbulb?
A: That’s not funny.
This actually made me laugh
A: They can't reach it because it was put in place by a man.
Not funny! Feminists are the strongest among us. We know they're the strongest bc they keep telling us so....right in the middle of their whiny jokes about how oppressed they are.
A: well, just one. But it takes forever... They just hold the bulb up and wait for the world to revolve around them.
Do they know what a lightbulb is? I'm not sure the lights ever on...
Okay, I'll come clean, I chuckled at the "very important though face".
Maybe it's because I'm Aussie. Maybe it's because I too have very important thought face.
Well played love, keep on working on that smile 👌
I've never seen Matt Walsh crack a fu*cking smile in his life. He's almost always serious, and he's heavily into gender studies with his new documentary titled "What is a woman?". He's made his life's work out to be a valiant endeavor to find the true answers as to the psychology of how men and women are different.
After all of this, and after pointing out the seriousness in his life's work...
He's still funnier than Hannah Gadsby.
Actually he shows 2 smiles in the jordan peterson clips in the what is a woman, one smile is at the end of his conversation with peterson and one after his wife answer.
But i've had friends like him, not easy to maoe them laugh or smile. And when they smile it is like a very small smile
He cracked a brief laughter when Jordan Peterson threw that "Go marry one and find out" when Matt asked him what a woman is.
That’s for sure.
Who do you think you're kidding? Walsh is funny as hell.
the graham cracker joke actually made me laugh
As a lesbian, I find her wildly unfunny. It’s a melting pot of slamming men and weird facial expressions that “cue” laughter. Nothing she’s said is remotely funny. She give women a bad name and should get over herself.
Exactly! And not only is she giving women a bad name, she also gives that especially to lesbian women. All my lesbian Friends even hate her very much :D Not only because of her unfunny "Jokes", also because she looks like a Guy instead like a Woman (they're really disgusted by this) and it annoys them that she's always saying everytime possible that she's lesbian, like it would make her "funnier" or something.
You should try and overcome your trauma.
👏👏👏
You eat what I eat.

That's definitely a laugh track. Nobody is laughing at these horrible jokes
I think they are because they’re pandering. They’re signaling their wokeness. The leftist mating call.
Meh it was probably the best feminist comedian I’ve seen to be fair.
ricky l I mean, yeah she’s definitely comfortable on stage and had experience telling jokes on stage which is like 90% of the battle for a comic. The jokes just didn’t work though.
I am
Other then referring to that He/she as a joke nothing else came close to a joke.
I love the concept of a video trying to laugh at an extremely NOT FUNNY professional, and being a 100 times funnier doing so and commenting not being a pro comedian 😂😂. I had a good laugh thanks to you.
Referencing Harry Potter, she’s built like a clean shaven Hagrid
This comment is funnier than every clip he showed.
How do you know the names of Harry Potter characters? Sad bastard
MrGenedancingmachine The fact that you recognised Hagrid as a character and not, say, a creature, indicates that you too know too much about Harry Potter. The fact that I can write this comment shows I know too much about Harry Potter. There must be something in the water.
Mouth Wash Typhoon “referencing Harry Potter” you see that in the sentence, genius?
Ha Harry Potter i get it
Why people laugh at unfunny jokes:
-You come to a comedy club intending and primed to laugh.
-You paid money to laugh, so not laughing causes cognitive dissonance.
-Mob mentality, others around you are laughing, sometimes even planted during filmed sets.
-There is a 'rhythm' to a comedy routine where you just laugh as a response to the timing before the joke has settled in. (Difference between shows with CACKLING laughter and a general crowd titter at every pause)
I often wondered that. Never been to a comedy show, usually watching them on TV or on my phone while making dinner and though the jokes are actually funny I don't usually laugh it's just like.. internal, maybe at best I'll get a "hah." These Daily Wire blokes though touch on issues that are interesting but mostly dull and informative so when they throw in the odd joke it actually lands like a long build up to a punchline and I laugh louder than comedy shows, so much so that my flatmates give me weird looks like I've finally lost it since I'm always fairly reserved.
-You're drunk and or high and will find anything and everything funny because you're brain is being destroyed by alcohol and weed.
That's EXACTLY what's happening here.
You sound like you may know something about comedy (or drunk crowds 😁 Please note, I used no facial muscles with that emoji). You could add another reason: These people in the audience who laugh at this crap also laugh at literal crap, and we assume that's at least once a day after their probiotic Benefiber followed by their Chobani chaser.
@@Myaccisbanned The irony, is that YOUR (that is the appropriate word) is incapable of being destroyed. There is too little to wreak destruction upon...
How is the crowd laughing at this? I need to start my stand up career there to build confidence
Say you are gay and just talk about it. Apparently that’s comedy now.
@@mattmattix2598 😂😂😂
The laugh track has no limit lol
Im just thinking the same
They don’t actually show the crowd laughing. It’s VERY well possible that they use a laughing tracks to enhance/create the laughing in the audience.
That rant on shopping carts killed me😂😂😂😂I laughed because I hate it whenever I get to a shopping mall and I see that one available parking slot and when I turn into it, I find there's a shopping cart that some genius decided to leave there instead of putting it away in its designated place.😅
If I were given free tickets to her show, I'd still demand my money back.
This is like when a 5 year-old tells you a knock-knock joke and you laugh just to make them feel good about themselves. The audience is giving sympathy laughs.
My guess is a flashing laugh sign.
Your reactions were 1000x funnier than anything she said.
As a fan of dry humour, this guy is king. The one on Chelsea had me sounding like a drunk!
Your commentary was hilarious 😅😅
I think it helps her when you have 3 things: a funny opener before her, alcohol in the audience, and a sign that turns on at every "punchline" which says "laugh or you have committed a hate crime"
😭😂
Ugh, I wouldn't be surprised!! 🙄🤦🏾♀️👎🏾
Now *that* is a joke, and a good one.

Self-deprication is one of the key ingredients of being a decent comic. Part of becoming a good comedian is the ability to laugh at yourself and talk about humiliating things in your past. If she says she’s not willing to do that than she’s in the wrong business.
Ikr?? I'm totally confused at that. 100% of my favorite comedians use self-deprication all the time. It makes the audience feel more comfortable.
She literally said she looked like a stabbed potato. What do y’all want? For her to recall on embarrassing shit or shit she doesn’t want to talk about? Lolol just bc y’all don’t think someone’s funny doesn’t make you correct 🤣 an nah I’m not a feminist and I could LESS about a female who wants to crack jokes at men. Men crack jokes at women all the time. Y’all hate on this but will laugh your asses off at crowd work comedians who say crazy off the wall shit about women all the time and everyone justifies it bc it’s comedy.
