Don't Settle If You Hate Your Job

  • Hey, guys! Fulfillment in your work might seem like a fantasy, but it’s possible for all of us!
What keeps you in your career? Do you love it? Are you sticking to a specific zip code? Are you scared of the unknown?
Are you in your current job because of fear or love? If you're doing it based on fear, then you’re working around 5 days/week, 40-60 hours/week minimum (many of us spend more time with co-workers than family and friends), because of money concerns and a lack of self-confidence.
Work isn’t always fun. Like anything, there are good and bad days. But we’ll never be happy without fulfillment.
I live my life looking forward. I’m enthusiastic and curious for the adventures ahead. I want you to have this same excitement!
Extreme changes aren’t necessary. Like your employer, but work is boring? Seek advancement within the organization. Always wanted to be a pro in another field? Pursue training opportunities. Want out of your dead-end position? Apply for new jobs.
Don’t give up if it doesn’t happen immediately.
DISCLAIMER: I’m not saying quit your job. Explore, learn, but never settle.
ACTION: Believe in yourself. Fulfillment in work can happen. Decide what you want and how to do it. Envision the next phase of your career NOW. Not tomorrow.
I know you can do it - I have confidence in you. Now it’s time for you to believe in yourself, too!
Thanks for watching! See you next time.

ceeloc Where there's a will there's a way. The best example I can give is youtube. Did you know there's a channel that is just videos of a child opening new toys? His parents get hundreds of millions of views. Point being people will watch anything and there's always someone to sell to. Won't be financially rewarding at first but persistance and consistency is key.

I agree with GodLee here. With the internet, you can make anything a job. A good place to start on that topic is the book "Crush It!" by Gary V

lol that channel is an anomaly in the thousands.
Don't use that as an example, not realistic.

    • @GodLee103
      @GodLee103 7 лет назад +8

TheGreatslyfer You're pessimistic. There is thousands of channels with millions of subscribers. All you gotta do is focus on a niche and people will watch. Look at how many gaming channels there are. Why would you want to watch someone else play games on a regular basis. There are channels where you watch other people eat food. Like not even good food fast food. There are countless channels that are just about drama and usually get all of their facts wrong. People watch stupid things. There are daily vloggers who mostly record their boring normal lives. There are people who just watch other people try on make-up and clothing hauls. Firearms, science, comics, fitness, automotive, Dancing, Cooking, trick shots, unboxing, travel, singers, comedians, sports, TV show and movie reviews, magic, psychology, dating, life hacks, self-defense, compilations, economics, mathematics, and even react and list channels. Humans are social animals and most people just want to hear another opinion. Each of these are equally boring and uninteresting to someone as much as it is interesting to the next. I 100% guarantee something I just said is interesting to you and I didn't even think of everything. It's perfectly realistic to succeed on youtube. Don't be such a pessimist.

GodLee103 oh I thought you meant the real world not youtube.
Yea you are right from my perspective it would be perfectly reasonable to think that one could be fairly successfuly if they know how to improve themselves and do everything they need to do in order to become a successful RUclips channel.

Start an Amazon business and start selling clearance items at various stores for profit. Try to aim for 100% return on investment on each item. Build this business up for a few years then hire some employees to run it for you and pay yourself a salary for doing nothing. Or sell the business.
Your plan is actually extremely doable if you start in your early 20s and you're totally committed to it. Just get really, really good at selling things on Amazon.

I think the most crucial point is, that most people don't what to do with their lives, because they don't know themselves well enough. In most cases "institutions" like the own familiy, schools and/ or colleges are the ones, that hinder us from getting to know us better and explore how we want to live and who we want to be and who we can be. If you are a child or a teenager no adult is really interested in what you think or feel or what you have to say - you are only allowed to follow the rules and to do what you are told to do. That's it. And this can't be the right preperation for a life as a grwon up.

great video mike. I was one of those people just settling for a job and working day after day for something that didn't make me happy and when I would feel that way I would also wonder am I ungrateful? that's what I would tell myself but it all boiled down to taking action and not settling for something that Made me miserable. now I am doing youtube full time making so much more and I get to do what I love on my own terms. it takes alot of hard work but it's worth it.

I don't have any energy or time to look for another job when I need to recover on my days off because I'm drained. I am at a place where I just want to quit but like you said I'm very afraid that at my age I will not be able to find another job. I don't know what I want to do.... that's the problem. I'm only experienced with the job that I'm in and I hate it. I cry all the way to work and all the way home. 😢

Ascended Breath I've been there too. I really believe we can take control, and use our job now to get us closer to the life we want. Even if it's a job we hate, even if it has nothing to do with what we'd rather be doing, even if we're going to leave it as soon as we find something better. I think this video is right; work takes up a ton of our lives. We shouldn't have to spend all that time at a place that's stressing us out, making us unhappy, and taking away from what we'd rather be doing. Find what you love. And know that for the time you have to be at that job you don't like: you can use it to get what you want.

I know how you feel. The night before I have to get up for work, I’m anxious and upset at myself. I wonder why did I even apply for the job. I should be happy because it’s a pretty relaxed atmosphere, the pay is good and it’s close to my home, but I don’t like the work. I am pretty good at it but I’m never excited or motivated. I’m ready to go home as soon as I start. I try to make notes of reasons why I should like it, I make plans to do fun things on the weekend or I’ll meet up with friends after work or do things I enjoy and still I think of the eleven hours of commute and work. It’s a struggle. But I’m saving money and taking classes to go into another field I’ll enjoy more. It’s hard but it helps to be optimistic and If you can use your day job to fund your dream job it might keep you encouraged. I wish everyone who hates their job a brighter future and better job or career.

I need a change but I have to wrap my mind around the concept of taking a huge pay cut plus I'm not sure what it is that I want to do. I mean, I love anything artistic but I lack the education or skills to make money doing what I love. So I feel I have to find a half way point where I do a job that I somewhat like and still make enough money to support my family, what that is I don't know.

Yes! Thank you! I’ve been in a job for a year where I am absolutely miserable. People have tried to blame me saying that it’s because I’m always talking about it or always “dwelling” on it. Well, I’ve also done plenty of things to try to distract myself from it or tell myself it’s not that bad, but recently my health has started to deteriorate. And it’s EXACTLY because of what you’re saying. You can’t “turn off” your subconscious and if you try to shut down your thoughts, your body will eventually SCREAM at you.

They got married, have kids, have mortgage, car payments and the fear is that they will lose it all. I can’t blame them. I would say, design your life from the beginning and only bring on those responsibilities once you actually have the job that you love. But most people choose to settle with the mediocre life.

I felt as if you were explaining my life. I’m 20 years old, I went to college straight out of high school and done fine my first year. I was working at McDonald’s during this time, my first job. I done pretty good until I got this new job I’ve been at for a year now. I had to take a break from school because of it. I wanted a job that paid a lot more so I left McDonald’s and went to a factory type job. We prep veterans files so vets can get their claim and their files can be scanned into a system. Amazing pay.. not even 2 minutes away from where I live..but they are working so much overtime I feel overwhelmed, depressed, and un-inspired. I work 9 hours a day, 6 days a week at this point. It’s taking a huge toll on me. Not to mention the hours are from 3:30pm to 1am.. that’s basically my whole night and evening being taken from me. I feel like all I ever do is work, sleep, eat and repeat. That’s not something I’m okay with it makes me unhappy. I hope that I can stick it out until my yearly anniversary date and find a new job. I have a goal of saving a certain amount of money while I work there, while living at home. I hope it works out. Until then I’m just feeling dead. ☹️

It is a luck whether you can leave your job or not. i am living in Hong Kong, and facing exorbitant prices and earning tiny salary, my bank account balance go to almost 0 at the end of month, if you living in USA, that is other story.

I used to have a job where I was actually losing money. The gas was eating up my commute and I didn't make much at my job. Since I was on the phone a lot, I lost my voice and took time off being sick until I regained my voice back. What is the purpose of going to the job if ur not happy and you don't make much money and ur job was making u sick

I can relate to this,my first chinese bosses we're ok ,respected my work but wen they left ,we were left with a grumpy crybaby manager who it almost felt he could not survive a day without shouting at someone and an arrogant racist overweight director who spends his day disturbing every department by correcting experienced workers if not done his way

I'm dropping this comment here to check back in 3 years where I am, and to update you guys. I built a plan 2 months ago - I have a great-paying office job (six figures), excellent benefits, health insurance, paid time off, etc. But I fucking hate picturing myself in an office for the rest of my life. Unfortunately, I don't expect that to change much, but I do have a side-gig in the form of a podcast which gets average listens (200-400 listens per week, nothing great). The hope is that someday this podcast will break through and make some money. Even bigger than that, on the side, I'm planning to pay off all my debt and have $100,000+ in savings in 3 years. That is, by March 2023, I hope to have an awesome, money making podcast as well as $100,000+ in savings. I don't like what I do all the time, but at least I can build some security and plan for the long term ? I'll check back yearly to update you guys, tag me if I forget =)

Easy to say when you’re rich enough to film this video while walking around the literal freaking MANSION that you live in. Out here in the real world, 99% of us can’t afford to just quit our job just because we aren’t exactly happy with it.

yess it is so fucking draining. The problem is I don't really have anything that I am passionate about. And then because of my job I don't really have time to find a passion, you know? Vicious circle. Plus, I'm sorry but this really depends on where you live. Living in Eastern Europe, there are basically only a few jobs that pay enough for me to pay the bills. If I were to switch my profession, I might starve.

Thank You for this video I shared this with my mom
She works 7 days a week and she is so exhausted and unhappy
She has to work to be able to hold down the household
I pray that one day she can be free to be able to be happy and be able to get some joy in life rather then letting her job get the best out of her
I’m not built to be restricted in a workspace I am committed to building RUclips as my empire and bring her in my world of creativity
Thank You for this video 💕

This is very true I love working as a watersports instructor which is only a Summer job so in the winter I'm working in Hospitality in a 4* Hotel, long unsociable hours not much better pay but it keeps me motivated towards studying personal training qualifications I just keep thinking if I don't study to pass I'm going to end up stuck in this dead end job and not doing what I actually enjoy doing in life

Mike, you're a great guy and I'm so thrilled that my half-Asian sons have a good role model with you, but as a man without children, you simply don't understand the pressure faced by parents. Yes, you stay at jobs you hate for security, health care, etc because your children's well-being is more important than your happiness. That's part of the deal you sign up for when you become a parent. Single people and child-less couples have far more freedom and can pack up to become employment nomads and find themselves. Parents have to have decent health care so they don't worry that their kid's appendectomy will bankrupt them. Parents find happiness in the time away from the job; that's why family is important.

And remember, not everyone can be football players, super models, and rock stars. Burgers need to be flipped, and toilets need to be cleaned. Very few people can afford and have the talent/luck to dedicate their lives to their passions. Most people work because the alternative is starvation and homelessness.

You need years of college, which you need time and money to pay for. You're time is spent with your current job, and your job barely gives you the money to pay for your living. Quit your job, you have nowhere to live.
That's a problem that can be solved but I'm working on the solving part
