I can understand the crowd being a bit passive. Listening to this i'm not sure wheter i wanna dance to it or lie down, close my eyes and let my mind wander. I guess that abivalence is reflected in the crowd. Doesn't mean they weren't loving it. It's just a bit too cerebral for mindless partying. I think they were just paying attention.

@@johnsmithjnr9628 That's because Jon produced the song for Coldplay, along with many others from that time. "The Escapist" is basically a shortened version of this song "Light Through the Veins"

@@user-sk4wf3ve6z True that, but at leatst from what I've seen from the KEXP performance, he uses them very creatively. At parts it does sound a bit random, but some fills and filtering of his were impressive. I like the twist he puts on the music through them. It is impressive.
He's just unreal. I saw him for the first time at Festival Six, just wonderful, such a small tent and so intense, Truly one of the most talented music makers.
Last Friday when he played at Mutek here in Mexico, all the people at the front (including me) just got crazy! Especially with that extreme powerful live version of Insides, way heavier and minimalistic than the one played in this video. Jon transmits such an overwhelming vibe when he plays, indescribable!
That is... 45 minutes of beauty made by a visibly good person is something rare, the stuff that you see a very few time in life. The most respect from someone in Florence.
I remember, I started to listen to Jon Hopkins when I was maybe 17. "Cold Out There" was always on repeat either I was sad or happy. I even used to create short movies, download his music and put it as a soundtrack. A week ago, I went to his live DJ set in Rome for the first time... I danced all the concert NON STOP and it felt like.. I am FLYING. No drug can compare to the music of Jon Hopkins.
This mix is so amazing.. Jon Hopkins has been a musical idol of mine for years, and idk why, but for some reason seeing this mix made me more excited than any other one of his I've seen.. I just couldn't help but smile the entire time watching someone I look up to so much in action, so in the zone, and precise.. I really wish I could have been there so he could look up and be assured that at least somebody in that seemingly dead audience truly appreciated his art...
A musical genius at work, right before their very eyes. I'd be damn speechless just standing next to Jon, let alone standing next to him and watching build a song from the ground up!
I rarely comment, but this needs to be said: That was totally f*cking mind blowing. I put it on straight away for a 2nd time, then a 3rd. I can't remember ever wanting to play another set back to back like that. I only ever had that feeling before when I watched Matrix. Love and gratitude to you Jon.
For the people leaving negative remarks about people 'not dancing hard enough'.. It's about self-expression and there's a ton of variables that influences someone's way of expressing themselves. Mood, music, crowd, location, alcohol and other substances, recent experiences.. It's easy for these RUclips trolls to judge someone who's standing in the corner with their beer -- but what they don't see is what's going on inside. Maybe that person's enjoying the music even more than the guy going apeshit near the DJ booth. TL;DR -- you don't know shit about those people, don't judge.
Man, why so negative? So many comments here are either angry at the crowd or angry at the comments. This is chill, hypnotic music, if you're angry listen a little more closely and groove. d-.-b
Man i love "light through the veins". Such an extremely strong track. It makes me feel so calm, warm, like wrapped in a blanket of music, safe.. at least the normal version. This one here is a bit too clubby for that effect. Still love both tough..
People may be criticising the crowd for not dancing, but someone please tell me how you dance to this? I like the music, but if i was there I think id be simply admiring the masterclass on display, Im not sure how I’d dance to this.

lHighHopesI Yes thankyou! The music is incredible but unless you've got a '4 on the floor' kick drum booming out at low frequency you won't get people on a roll dancing to it. I think they were pretty receptive looking at the end. I still think it's great that he plays these venues though.
Edward Blackburn come on there isn't! You know what a 4/4 kick is right? The only track that has a consistent 4/4 kick is light through the veins. And even then he rolls off the lows for a decent part of that. There's a reason club music has evolved to be four on the floor with the lows going down to 50hz and lower..it makes people move.. that doesn't detract from the music but a club audience is there to feel the music at a physical level and respond to it physically more than emotionally or cerebrally..
