Yes, Gaspar pitched to Cassel the idea for LOVE as: "What Eyes Wide Shut should have been" Never watched Humanity nor La grande Bellezza but I'll put them on my list. I'll probably have to watch In The Mood For Love again because It didn't interest me at the time. I love Boyhood and most films from 2014 like Whiplash, Birdman, Interstellar, Chef etc.

No films from the 20th century? Most serious art films of the 21st century are nihilistic. Since I reject nihilism, I prefer 20th century films as they had less of it. If you want an example of a rare, serious 21st century film that is inspirational and not nihilistic, it's the German film "Never Look Away".
Okay? I will probably check it out but this is a list of films that made me want to be a director. Not a list of best art films that are or aren't nihilistic.
@kristjan-jonsson-film I understand. Just wondering why no 20th century films made the list? I guess it would be too predictable to put 2001: A Space Odyssey or something like that on the list. 2001 inspired Gaspar Noe to make Enter the Void.
@@dvforever of course, Gaspar admitted to be influenced primarily by 2001 which I'm a huge fan of. One of his favourite film is also Soy Cuba which I love more and more over the years. But when I was getting serious with filmmaking (which was when I was a teenager) I sought out more recent films and later widened my cinema worldview. If this was a favourites list, it would be completely different story. I'll probably make that video later 😅

From French films from the 1940s, 50s, 60s, to some Disney classics to Hitchcock films to Malick's Days of Heaven and The Tree of Life. But 2001 and Enter the Void would definitely make the list!
