      Hi kevin!
Thank you for this incredibly informative video! I was actually shocked to know that coming from a low income and not so good schools can actually be a plus in the application.
Again, thanks for your amazing content!

Kevin, I can't overstate how helpful your channel is. On one hand, every video on your channel is extremely helpful and clarifies the confusing process of college applications. On the other hand, your friendliness and enthusiasm in each video makes a stressful topic like college apps much more digestible. My favorite videos of yours are the ones where you edit your viewers' essays (which is a genius idea btw because it helps the people whose essays you're editing immensely, but also helps all of your viewers by guiding us through your thought-process).
From this video, I thought your advice on combining your major with another passion, like medicine and education, was super helpful. Thank you for the amazing work you do!

Hi Kevin! I’ve been binge-watching your videos since I decided to apply for US institutions. I am from Brazil and being an international student is sometimes stressful specially if you compare yourself with others. Thanks for all the support man, you taught me to keep going and believing in my potential :)

Hi Kevin, this was so helpful! It's great to know what to do especially if you're in that middle range because you are competing against 90% of the US population that is like you. Knowing to get involved in your dream college or area of interest early is a really great advice, I wish I had known it sooner.

As a kid in a huge school, competitive school, I wish more parents knew about how it literally does not help your kids in anyway just makes it harder to get into colleges, we have soooo many kids from our school, that have 100+ extracurriculars, 4.0 gpa and national awards and still go to our local state school because there are 100 of others with the same stats, in our school.

Hi friends! For reference, this was actually one of the first 10 videos I ever made on RUclips (hence the intro + video quality). But the information here is absolute GOLD and honestly this content is just criminally underrated. So I'm re-uploading it again!! Hope you guys found it useful. I recommend watching in 2x speed and taking notes. With much love, Kevin.

THANK YOU for pointing out that “the folks in the middle” are getting squeezed! The average income in the US is 57,000. The cutoff for federal aid is $100k. If you’re from a two income family earning roughly the average wage you literally are expected to pay the full cost of college. HTF can a family pay $80K from a $104K income? So they have $2K a month left for taxes, food, rent, utilities, etc. It’s completely unrealistic

the real cheat code is going to community college for a year or two, then transferring out! I've had many friends who did that!

This is so frustrating. How do colleges expect highschoolers to focus their extracurriculars/resume into a niche category from the second they enter highschool? Most 15 year olds aren’t capable of figuring out their life that quick

A bit late in replying...I only stumbled upon your video today. Very helpful info for our daughter who's in Sophomore year. Around the 11th minute of your video you mentioned about geographical location. Initially, we wanted her to go one of the 'brand name' boarding schools (Exeter-type in the Northeast) but she got mostly wait listed. She ended up in a boarding school in....INDIANA!...due to among other things a substantial financial aid. We initially thought of re-applying to the Northeast but researching then now watching your video she's probably best to stay put. As you said, she'd be competing fiercely with other Exeter-type kids. But now she's really blossoming and standing out amongst the rest. She has upper classmen friends who got into Yale REA which matches what you said in the video! Most importantly she's happy there and thriving.

hello!! i was wondering if my extracurriculars dates would damage my application. i was not able to progress much in my projects and clubs due to familial, economic and health difficulties in sophomore and junior year. (my very small under managed school didn’t help either iam literally begging people rn to join nhs so it can continue there’s only 5 people in the club😭) this senior year however my situation approved a bit and i was able to finally have progress in many activities i planned in the years before. is this manageable for my application? also if you haven’t done so already, i would like to see how you would set up the additional info section so it doesn’t seem like a whole trauma dump essay, thank you!!!

I think that the factor that effect college admission decision is
    Honors
    LOR
    And Essay

Hello Kevin(!!!!), I am a huge fan of your videos (although I got to know about the awesomeness you share quite recently!)
I applied to schools last year as an Indian Intl Student. All the top schools I applied to last year rejected; however I was hellbent on trying this year too, and took a gap year. I still don't understand which activities to prioritise in my essays... Could you give a tip to prioritise activities focussing more on the activities' impact on the AO rather than just my interest in them?
One last question, is it a good idea to mention an ongoing task in essays? (eg. I am currently writing a guide for AP CSA exam or working on a research paper, but neither of them are complete and published... can I still mention them?)
PS: I missed your break dance break in this vid!
