omg! I'm a senior next yr and planning to apply to nyu so it weirdly feels cool to see someone w the same name(spelt the same way too!) as me get in lol. Great video!!!
I'm a sophomore in highschool and my friends have great grades compared to mine and I can't help but feel self-conscoius :(. You're video is making me find my confidence again and to make more of an effort to raise my gpa no matter what!
@@domina4893 Yeah sure! I had a 3.96 Gpa weighted and a 3.77 unweighted. I applied test optional without an SAT or ACT score. I took 5 AP classes. AP Chem 2, AP World History 4, AP psych 3, AP Lang I wasn’t able to take the test because of Covid complications, and AP Calculus which I’m taking right now. As for my extracurriculars, I went to an arts school where I majored in violin performance. So my main extracurriculars were string ensemble and Orchestra which I took all 4 years. We won 1st place gold at national competitions every year for both orchestra and string ensemble. I tutored students from Antigua and Barbuda symphony orchestra. I was an ambassador for my school so I got to traveled to Buenos Aires to represent my school and I got to meet and perform for a lot of famous people like Brigitte Macron. I also help do screenings for auditions at my school every year. I volunteered at the National air and space museum to read books and do arts and crafts with kids. I was very active in my local church so I planned youth activities, food drives, community clean ups, book bag give aways, etc. The biggest advice I can give you is to be yourself. I applied to 10 schools and my NYU application is the one where I was truly myself. I wrote my supplemental essay about anime and I didn’t think I was gonna get in. For extracurriculars, do what you love but do it really well. For AP courses it’s the same you don’t have to take 10 of them but take 3-5 that you like and do really well in it the classes. Good luck!!!🥰❤️
@@wendpitroipa321 i know test optional mean u dont submit sat/act but do they require any other test in replacement for that or are all test submissions entirely optional???
I wish I had worked much much much harder in high school, gotten way more involve and basically have direction. I only knew what I kinda wanted to do until like end of my junior year and now Im a college junior studying finance graduating in like a year (maybe a year and a half) in a small shitty school, I also wasn’t even sure exactly what to do w/ a finance degree even when I was a freshman, then the next year I thought about getting into the FP&A industry cause it’s not super hard and now I have dumb dreams of getting into Investment Banking in a top firm in NY and I feel like if I have had that goal in high school then my target school would’ve been NYU Stern and dream schools/reach would’ve been U Penn Wharton and Columbia and I would’ve had worked like crazy. Congrats on getting into NYU, I wish I could be there.
Thank you! And I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, so I hope that no matter how your college experience is, you’ll end up working somewhere you enjoy :) And who knows? Maybe you’ll spend a few years at a different firm and then get a job at the top investment banking firm! I truly believe in you, you got this :))
@@EverythingAarushi thank you, really appreciate the reply! Yeah I guess you could be right, I think my plan now is to break into FP&A (cause it’s a lot easier to get into that than break into IB, especially coming from a small school). Ahh no you’re not!! I was just concerned that mine were concentrated in one subject (math) and stuck out on my app. But I’m so thankful that NYU’s application review process is holistic, so grades are only one of the many things they consider when looking at your app. You’ll be just fine❤️❤️
I'm honestly terrified because I want to go to nyu so badly but I think have a few Cs on my transcript at this point so I'm pretty freaked that's gonna hurt my chances badly.
Honestly, it’s totally fine!! NYU’s application review process is holistic, meaning that they take into consideration every part of your app when reviewing it so as long as you have strong ECs and essays you should be totally fine :)) Also, remember that no college acceptance or rejection is the end all be all - you’ll end up somewhere amazing no matter what🥳 Edit: I also realized that you said “a few Cs,” and I don’t think just a couple Cs are detrimental either :)) You got this!!
Hi Aarushi! I just wanted to say thank you for this video, because I’m also a very ambitious person, and even though my college applications are somewhat far in the future (I’m in 8th grade at the moment), I like to be able to lay out what I need to do and what is required. I’ve been struggling a bit with the online courses that we have to do this year, so this really inspires me to work a little harder and not give up, so I can (hopefully) get in to the college of my choice and start a successful career. Also, you mentioned a little bit about IB, and I’d really appreciate it if you’d do a more in depth video about it, because you said that there was more to it, and I want to check if it’s something my school offers and whether it would be worth it. Thanks 😊!
Hey Cecylia! I'm so so glad that this video was helpful!! It's so great that you're thinking about college so early, but make sure to enjoy your time in high school and not stress yourself out :) And yes! I think I'll end up doing a video about IB, so many people have questions! I wish you all the best in your online courses and in the future, I'm. sure you'll do amazing
aww I’m happy for you! wish you the best in New York! nyu is my dream school too but after looking at your stats ahaha I doubt I can get it. but good luck
Ah thank youuu but by no means are my stats are tell-all for what NYU is looking for!! NYU is amazing because they have a holistic application review process, which means that they look at every single part of your application when reviewing it and take it all into consideration (extracurriculars, awards, etc). :) I wish you all the best during app szn and please don't hesitate to reach out if you ever have any questions :))
i know this is late but, i’m in 9th grade and want to go to nyu but i’ve really need struggling with grades (dw im not failing) and doing clubs and stuff because of covid. what can i do in 10th to make it up . or like how much do you think this year is going to affect if i get into nyu (or any college for that matter)
Hey! It's def not late at all :) Honestly, it is totally fine if you do not have all As! What a lot of people don't realize is that colleges don't necessarily look for consistently amazing grades every year; they actually look for an upward trend across all four years. So as long as your grades as better in the upcoming years, you will be just fine! Also, since you're only in 9th grade, you have tons of opportunities to do things in upcoming years. Colleges look for consistency, so find something you are passionate about and really work at it in these three upcoming years - you have tons of time! Whether this is a club, an organization, or something that you make yourself, anything works! For me, this was debate and related activities, but this can be anything for you :) It's so good that you are thinking about this early but don't stress yourself out! As long as you are passionate and it shows in your application, you will be just fine :)
would you consider being in a lot of clubs or just sticking to a few clubs but getting leadership positions in them to be more worthwhile? i’m in 10th grade and i’m in 3 clubs/activities right now, but i plan on joining a few more next year.
I would say that having a decent amount of extracurriculars is really important, but what is more important is continuity and improvement - that means how long you have stuck with the activity as well as 1) performing well in it and 2) achieving leadership positions. I think that you are on a great track by sticking with your current activities and joining some more next year!! :)
does test optional mean you dont have to submit SAT/ACT scores only? or does it mean you dont have to submit any test scores? cus im worried i have to replace my sat scores with like any other test they require like ap classes etc
Hi! Thank you for watching my video! I am not 100% sure but I think that test optional means that they do not require scores from standardized tests. I don't think that they could ever force you to submit AP scores because they always have been optional to submit anyway... Not completely sure tho! I'm also not sure if it is the same across all universities - some might have different policies. I recommend that you call the admissions office to get that cleared up or ask about it in an info session!! :))

But my question was if I get straight A’s my junior year and do well on my SAT and ACT scores do you think there’s even a slight chance of me getting in as a early decision?
Hey! Short answer is yes, I think you can! Long answer is that NYU reviews applications holistically, which means that they look at every aspect of your application when looking at whether they want to accept you or not. Therefore, if you have strong standardized test scores, extracurriculars, awards/honors, and essays, as well as strong grades in junior and senior year, you should have a good chance! In terms of grades specifically, colleges look for improvements in grades, so if you do really well in your junior year, it shows personal growth and development.
A strong SAT or ACT will definitely help as well!
do you know if nyu looks at unweighted or weighted because I've heard both
You can give either, and you just indicate which one you gave. I chose my weighted :))
What is a good plan for sophomore year in highschool
That's a tough question to answer because it entirely depends on what you have done thus far and what your goals are for the future.
