Mate, if your retention graphs were based on my views they'd never veer away from 100%. Seriously! Every one of your videos I watch are jam packed with info, humour, and annoyingly well polished with relevant B-Roll. I say "annoyingly" because I know that's the level of effort I SHOULD go to, but know how much hard work it is. Kudos Ed. You frieakin' legend, you!
Amazing tips. I didn't know we could trim or split the video after it has been published. Also thanks for explaining those charts so clearly. I've never really understood them before this video.
Yes, you can trim pieces of your video afterwards, but it will decrease the sharpness of your video dramatically. When you upload your high quality sharp video, youtube compresses it before it puts its online, losing a lot of image quality. If you're going to edit the video on youtube, it will re-render the video that is already there! It creates a new file with again a loss of image quality and shows that video instead on your channel. You can also revert back to your previous version if you don't like the new version.
It's also really tricky if you have music in the video. Almost every video I make has music, and if there's a low retention spot it's not always easy to cut out. Videos that are more conversational, no problem.
I can't say thanks enough, I just looked at one of my first videos and the intro at the start dropped my view percentage to 30% so I just cut that out! All of you videos helps me all the time but this one small thing changed one of the best videos in my channel. Thank you!
This video was a life saver, not only did it provide amazing info, but the RUclips editor tip was amazing, plus, I can also found that I can blur things through the editor because of this video!
I'm always checking my graphs to learn what to do and not to do in future videos but I don't regularly do cuts in the editor. Will be trying this out to see the difference in retention. Great video Ed!
I watched the part about checking where your engagement falls off, and using youtube trim to cut the video short. Immediately did that for 6 videos. All of them are older videos that had long outros that were entirely unnecessary. SUCH GOOD ADVICE! Never would have thought to check youtube studio for a trim function!!!!
Excellent, your channel has become, hands down, one of my favorites for creator content. Learning so much, thank you! I am a big fan of chapters because my goal has been to give the viewer what they want without having to scroll and search. I have a how-to based channel. I know retention is key regarding the algorithm, but I'm hoping this has helped please viewers enough to beat that retention issue . I need to study the analytics more to see if it's the case! I love your idea of playing with the chapter titles.. Will definitely give it a try. Thanks!

They're easy to digest and always deliver. Plus, they are good for experienced creators and newbies alike. Cheers!
Just curious, what about this video depicts some sort of excellent as above board quality? Yes it's a great video I suppose, but why dole out the accolades so profusely..I mean he didn't make any errors etc good transitions and smooth flow.. but that's almost the norm today
These videos are some of the best I've seen in terms of helping people get more views. The quality is outstanding, but they also include tips that I've not seen people sharing before. I learn so much from each video, so thank you! And keep up the great work. 🙌
I have mixed feelings about the obsession with views, likes, and money. We already had a medium that catered to the average, they called it TV. In the end, there was so much mindless drivel and placement advertising it wasn't worth watching. Watch times have a lot to do with the diversity of your audience, too. For some, a discussion is too simple, for others, too complicated. And worse, if a channel has a broad spread then a random sample will perform poorly even if it raises the bar for a subset of the audience. I think any contribution to the knowledge base out there deserves recognition, even if they don't entertain the masses. Those videos that are aimed at pure entertainment are on a rung below.
So much hardcore researching must go into these vids mate and I really appreciate it. Also really high quality editing as well. A lot of value provided, well done.
Your videos are getting better and better every time and it's so entertaining and educational at the same time it's unbelievable. Come on RUclips, help this channel blow up, best videos ever! I actually need to cut a part out of an old video for sure and never even thought about the editor... never thought it will be so easy 😌 thank you 😊🙏
Glad you found it helpful, the editor comes in handy 👍 especial when you make a video, it ranks and then there's an update and the info in it is out of date. I always have have cut things haha
I clicked in the video about retention rate (which was great btw) and I had the intention to watch only that one because I had something else in my queue, but here I am binge watching your videos... You are doing this really well! Creative, high quality, informative and very engaging! 👏
The end of your video drops like that because you added an end card. When someone clicks it you see that drop. So it’s hardly a bad thing because they’re moving to another of your videos, therefore getting you more views.
Useful video, after watching I decided to trim my videos with viewer drop outs. Even deleted a few that were dead wood or had ultra low retention on the channel which is tiny anyway, but would rather have people watching then just clicking away. oh yeah subbed as well
Dude. The endings of your videos kill me every time haha. Just an abrupt stop mid sentence. AMAZING way to keep people to the end of the video and keep them unresolved and wanting more. Love it.
It’s a bit annoying because I think he’s going to say something then an ad video pops up and the video ends. Then I have to scan a few seconds before to see if I missed it and find out I didn’t. Ugh😒

Great video! Really appreciate how much time this must have taken to edit too, good job! Be careful.
