About 50 years ago, when I was 10 years old, my father gave me a birthday gift that was a toy electric 4 in 1 lathe / drill press / I don't remember what else. That was back when they made toys for kids that could hurt them, lol. This used balsa wood, and cutout templates with the tool mounted on a swivel rod to allow the template to guide the tool. It's all I did for about a month, then lost interest and moved on to something else... Story of my whole life until photography. Now age 60, home quarantined and recovering from a liver transplant, (which is a two year testimony to God you should read sometime), I've been watching all these wood turning videos wishing I would have stuck with it. So I just wanted to let you know, in the hours and hours of videos I have watched, this piece is by far the most beautiful piece I have seen too date. It took a lot of your patience, working on this, having to change to that, finding more problems to to fix, areas to touch up, to refine and refinish and find more patience and refinish again until finally... You have this finished piece of true beauty. Isn't that really the story of how Good shapes our lives over the years... Thank you for this wonderful piece and allowing others to see the testimony in the making of it.
That is the most beautiful item you have ever done, and that is saying something because you have created some amazing art!!! Worth all the effort you put in ma’am.
Thanks Kim. You saved me a bunch of time and probably a bunch of money. I love the narration from the perspective of what you’re thinking, doubts and all.
Thank you!! I have more going on in my head than what I have time to say. lol This took over a month to create. I had over 10 hrs of video footage to shrink into 20min. It is hard to show and tell it all, but I do my best 🤗🤗 Thank you so much for watching!
Thank you. Lovely piece... It's also refreshing to see a turning where obstacles are addressed and overcome... rather than *whoosh* here's a perfect piece.
Love the bowl. It's gorgeous! I love the idea of making spot moulds with HDPE. I've had a couple of maple burls in my woodpile for a while and now I know how I can apply resin to them. I also admire your perseverance. I'd have given up after the bugs did their thing.
Final project is wonderful. You're explanations are first rate and I like the time you take to go through all the issues that come up... Well done ! Plus I really like the exhaustive of supplies and tools. Very helpful for us know what you use throughout the process.
One of the most beautiful bowls I’ve seen! Remarkable transformation from a stubborn petrified crusty old burl to a brilliant work of art. That sure was challenging and exhausting but also a very gutsy turn. Amazing! I like the new music BTW. Thanks for continually teaching and inspiring. Be safe and stay healthy. 🙏🏽
Kim Thank you for the project and for filming the experience. Whenever I do a project, I know every flaw and "happy mistake." But when my client gets it, all they see is how perfect it is to them. I want to get into turning now and I am inspired to do so even more now! Keep doing what your doing!
That is an amazing bowl. Thank you for showing the tools you used, thank you for explaining what you were doing, and thank you for explaining your learning process.
Considering all the challenges with this project, it really turned out quite nice! Good job and thanks for persevering! I go by the same thing, give it 100% and you've done your best! Thanks Kim, I really enjoyed your video! 💜😊 Pam
I think that was well worth all the frustration! I've never seen a more unique bowl. Indeed HE is Risen! Have a wonderful Easter, our most Glorious holiday! ...Newk from Kentucky
What an excellent example of patience. I'm afraid that I would have chunked that one. I love the way you incorporate the resin into your work. When I have used resin, well it looks like a hole in a bowl that has been patched with resin. Thanks for the inspiration!!!
Wow... what a stunning finish. I don't think anyone can say that you didn't give 100% on this one. It looks quite beautiful. Happy Easter in these crazy times and say hello to the cat for me... :)
He is risen indeed! Blessings to you and your family during this time of celebration and remembrance! Thanks for sharing your time and talent...beautiful work!
That is an amazing art piece! It reminds me of a galaxy being formed. I hope you kept it! Considering you took something old and created and worked on to create something new is symbolic.. considering it was Easter. (Pascha in Greek)
Way to stay with it. Challenges are always a learning opportunity. Thanks for sharing so I don’t have to repeat what you went throw. God bless you and your family.
Doing the hard part is satisfying. Builds confidence regardless to the turn out. Knowing that I can accomplish something similar to my vision , because of the hard work, is so worth it. You CAN do it 💪😁🤗 Thank you 😊
Beautiful creation👍👍👍 even with all the issues. Thanks for sharing. Next time John gives you a piece of wood have it X-Rayed to check for bottomless holes LOL
Thank you for this video. So many are bing-bang-boom, makes it look easy. You showed the struggles we all seem to have at times. Thank you for the plastic mould demo. I have a lovely piece of Arbutus wood fro BC I need to fill, and your method will adapt nicely for it. Happy Easter to you and family
Wow! The final result from all the effort and frustration is an absolutely gorgeous bowl! Definitely one of my favorite pieces I’ve watched you turn!!👍
Beautiful job. As a newer turner it helps me to see that at times a project requires extra effort both in turning and finishing. Thank you for posting this and discussing the challenges, excellent presentation!
Your efforts were worth it! That is one of your best pieces! RUclips may not like your boldness about your faith, I found that I had been unsubscribed from not only your channel but others that have content that doesn't line up with RUclips's crooked norms.
I have learned so much from this channel. Thanks so much for the content! I'm very new to turning, and your editing style (popup descriptions of tools, abrasives, and finishes) along with the excellent voice overs makes learning this stuff SO MUCH EASIER!!!! Thank you again!!!
I love the blue with the burl. I've found with turning burl to be careful with compressed air. I've blown small chunks out that way. I've also used thin c/a with a paper towel to swipe a coat to seal those tiny holes.
Wow is the only word I can think of! The time alone....wow! I know what you had to put into this peice, but worth it when done! What's the word I'm looking for? Um......oh ya....WOW! Beautiful Kim!
Beautiful work Kim! Great idea on filling those holes with resin! I have a cherry burl in my garage that has cracks and crevis' in it and i had no idea how i could turn it and it stay in tacked, but thanks to your hole filling tips , i think i can salvage my burl! Thanks for sharing!
Just watched this video for the second time! I had expected to see quite a bit of resin down inside the piece, judging by how much you had poured into it! I was surprised that it wasn’t basically hollow! Lol! Ms Kim, May God continue to Bless You and your family as well. We need more folks of Faith on this thing we call RUclips. Keep on Turnin’ ma’am! A Florida neighbor ( across the state!), Charlie Ball.
Awesome Bowl Kim, Glad I could help, thanks for the shout out !
