“We spoke out against racism, hunger, gangs, crimes, and turf wars, as we embraced all people with hope and the spirit of brotherhood. It’s just as apropos today.” - WAR
WAR, the original street band, was founded by veteran record producer Jerry Goldstein and rock legend Eric Burdon in 1969. Together with the original band members Lonnie Jordan, Howard Scott, Lee Oskar, B.B. Dickerson, Harold Brown, the late Thomas “Papa Dee” Allen, and Charles Miller, they blended many musical styles and influences. The musical laboratory that is WAR yielded 17 gold, platinum and multi-platinum awards, including the triple platinum ‘The World Is A Ghetto’ and double platinum ‘Why Can’t We Be Friends?’ and ‘Greatest Hits’, and hit songs "Why Can't We Be Friends?", "Low Rider", "Spill the Wine", and "The Cisco Kid".
WAR began playing live shows to sold-out audiences in the 1970s and continues their commitment to being road WARriors, touring over 150 dates a year to this day.

At 62 going to be 63 in October still love my FUNK !!
havent heard this song in years. slipping into darkness. War.
WAR and Tower of Power both my favorites from back in the day. I cant watch them anymore bc the original ban members pretty much all gone. Its like watching cover bands now. Is it really WAR when only Lonnie Jordan is the only member left? Alway remember them as they were, really miss them all, especially Charles Miller and his Sax! Hope we see them all in Paradise playing for us again.
Lee Oscar and Charles back and forth Harmonica and Sax Great Music!
Saw Tower of Power in 74 at a free concert on the Wellesley College campus. It was life changing!!!❤
@@susand2008 That is awesome! A big regret for me is that I did not see TOP and WAR back in their heyday! Best decade for all music!
True! But they're tight here. I aint mad. The World is a Ghetto... So... They Can't Take Away Our Music... cuz the... Cisco Kid... is still a... Low Rider... rollin down... Tobacco Road... in... City Country City... In Mazatlan... or on... Magic Mountain. Just... Spill the Wine... bang the... WAR Drums... and... Don't Let No One Get You Down.
Son Oh Son... Why Can't We Be Friends? lol OK I know that was corny but I couldn't resist. 🙃
did you ever catch MOTHER EARTH?
I heard years ago Bob Marley got the inspiration for "Get Up, Stand Up" from hearing War perform this when they toured together. Here, War pays homage back to him.
THEY ALWAYS BROUGHT THE HOUSE DOWN,,,POWER HOUSE BAND,,,CLASS OF 1973 HERE,,,JUST A UNBELIEVABLE TIME OF MUSIC,,,🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🎶🎸🍻🍻
Wow, they still sound great
Most underrated band: ever.
Probably. I thought they were more popular than that.
So true. Those were the days.🎶❤️🎶
Perhaps their day and time is now
Hands down- Hall of Famers - Couldn’t have had the 70’s without the righteous, funky groove of our favorite band at our Chicano parties! 🎉
Agreed 1000%
Ok @@nmar7512
So are we saying they aren't in the hall of fame? such an amazing band, made my teen years, adult years, and now senior years...
@@deniseavila1190 haha..our Chicano parties playing records in the day, parting and slow dancing with your honey!
What ya'll know about this!!! I am so glad I was born in this era!! B/c this crap now!! Aint Music!!! JUST LOUD NOISE!!🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
To all the WATTS babies, If this one didn't send chills down your arm and spine then you ain't no friend of mine! WATTS all the way UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was 12 when I bought 'Ghetto. War, Steely Dan, early Rod & Elton, and many other artists in the late '60's/early 70's produced some of the greatest music ever. I am reminded that had it not been for FM's coming of age during this era, we might never have been blessed with this music due to the length of the songs. WABB FM Mobile AL.
Appreciating this walk down memory lane 💜
I agree! They still got it!!! 🎤🎶🎹🥁🎸🎷.
Real sounds back in the day
My 1st dance on this song at a birthday in 1967. I was ten years old 5th grade. My 1st crush. This will always be our song. Michael just passed away about 2 months ago. This is our song. Rest in Peace❤
The best don't have music like this anymore
Drummer’s killing it. What a band/artist.
AMSTERDAM LOVE THIS YES REAL MUSIC BACK IN TIME THE BEST MUSIC TIME THE 70 AND THE GREAT 80,S
July 2024 and I just discovered this today!! What a brilliantly mix
yeah man
Better late than never!
Enjoy! I grew up back in the 70's listening to War and many others and watched them live. This was back when everyone was making original creative music. Real music and real musicians. From the soul funk bands, rock bands, and latin sounds coming out of California and New York City. A different world now.
@@jecs2123 What on Earth changed this scene? Did creativity go ghost? WAR LIVE from the Cook County Jail, will beat your ass...
A TRUE ORIGINATOR OF SOMETHING THAT HAS NOT BEEN OR EVER BE DUPLICATED,💯👍❤️
Sublime came close though and took what they did and grew it!
That part. Not many artist can say that!
@@timsullivan67nah man, Sublime built off reggae and whatever Bradley wanted to talk about. They were good and all. I really liked them, but they werent original in the way that WAR was/is original. They were an infusion of reggae/hip hop/punk/rock which was very enjoyable and cool. But I couldn't call it original like WAR
Wow🎉🎉this is a really clean performance! Loved every second of it! Seen this band in concert more than anyone else in my life! I seen a few members change, but u still got it❤
I remember back I smoke some weed and listened to war every morning 😅😂
Blessings Brother lol😂❤
You still need to, life is short.... Aloha and Blessings from Hawaii.
I didn’t smoke every morning but I enjoyed every musical memory note listening to War
That's what raw talent sounds and looks like people. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽❤
FACT!
Listening to this song, jam takes me back to the early 1970s, more than most! I'm unable to dream apparently due to a stroke, that left me prematurely retired as a pediatrician and permanently disabled, but if I was able to dream I would love to have one with me playing my sax in such a wonderful band, as I was a sax player prior to going into medicine.
I'm so very thankful that The Most High God blessed Frankie to be around us to share his smooth and soulful MUSIC with us as long as he did. Well done Frankie; may God bless you.
Man that man had a voice yeah
Fantastic Entro that just ..Brings it all back. These guys are part of the soundtracks to our lives!
Their harmonica player, a Danish guy named Lee Oskar, was amazing in the way he used his instrument as an inside voice of the "War" R&B fusion horn section. Nobody else has ever really done that, and it absolutely makes so much musical sense. Once you mic the "harp", the sound can be colored in many ways, but the breathiness is always there in the background. Every once in a while, it peeks up out of the inner texture, but he seldom has it in your face as a constant solo instrument, the way that most blues harp players do. Through most of their songs, you'd swear it was a saxophone.
Sometimes you really hear it more as a harmonica, but it always serves the needs of the song! A real musician's musician, as all of these hit-making guys tended to be!

I remember when this song came out. Always had a connection to it, but never heard it like this! Woke up my spirit. I feel this down in my bones! The lead guitar...don't make 'em like that anymore. When we had real musicians!
Now everyone can feel it in the man's soul❤ 2:05 it's off the hook. 9:15

I knew these guys well. I personally knew both Milton and Gary Blaylock. At that time they living on Oak Hill Ave. and was living on Cohasset drive. They helped our very young band called "Electrik Water" get our first "Reeds Arena" gig. I've never forgotten those brothers.
Iconic Musicians. WAR is excellence!

WAR! Raw funk! Funk reigns!
Was that the world record for longest note sung? 😂
Unfortunately that was a old song, but ironically this country and the world over is slipping into darkness 🙏😭.
Still sounds great !!!!
What a bunch of BS!! This ain't War folks. This is Lonnie Jordan and his fake ass version of War. Thankfully got to see the real WAR at central park summerstage around 15-20 years ago. Lonnie on keys and War's manager somehow got the rights to the band name. The original War ended up having to call themselves The Lowrider band. They couldn't even get enough gigs to keep it going while this fool brought in all new players who don't have half the talent of the original band. Unfortunately half of them are gone now. You couldn't pay me enough to see this version of War. Saw them once and that was more than enough. Do a little research and see for yourself what happened. This is trash!!
Saw WAR back in the day in the 1970's. Great groovy performance. Love that song.
( Slippin' Into Darkness )..✌️💕🥀

"Get up stand up, stand up for your rights." Bob Marley. Bust a beat edition. At least they acknowledged it with, "I Shot the Sheriff" beat too.
And the blessings continue 🎶🎭🍿🎈🎧💯
