This was one of the best reviews I've ever watched on RUclips. No fluff, e.g. unpacking stuff, no boring tech details that we can read ourselves. Demonstrated how each mic performed, which inputs are possible per model, price points. etc. Excellent. Thank you!
Quick comparison guide if it's useful to anyone: H1n - 2:43 H2n - 5:41 H4n - 12:23 H5 - 14:10 H5 Capsule 2 - 14:56 H6 - 17:03 Thanks for the video - very helpful :) I'm guessing the H2n would be better suited to recording two people, rather than using the XY configuration of the others between each person?
I dont mean to be off topic but does anybody know a method to get back into an Instagram account? I somehow lost my login password. I would appreciate any tricks you can give me.
@William Jeremias i really appreciate your reply. I found the site through google and Im in the hacking process atm. I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I bought the smallest Zoom recorder from GAK last year and have used it to record practices and rehearsals of my ukulele ensemble "The Kettleleles". I juyst put it on a tripod in the middle of us in my man cave and press record and the results are brilliant. I previously recorded on to an iPad using all sorts of microphones and mixers and I/O docks and I wish I had found the Zoom earlier! The tracks are also easy to email to the other band members to enable them to hear how good or bad they are performing!
Few things: 1. At 20:37 you are showing the optional XLR-add on module. This one unfortunately only works with dynamic mics since it delivers NO phantom power. Less versatile than you suggest. 2. The sphere mic is actually an M/S (Mid/Side) microphone. 3. I own or have worked with all of the ZOOMs shown (and more). Although the H6 looks the fanciest and best one, its screen is hard to read outside and its info is very tiny. I much prefer the larger VU-metering on the H4n Pro and H5. 4. The modular capsules can have their use but are very bulky and hard to transport. From the ones you show, the H4n Pro offers the most durable and compact solution. Despite the friendly pricing of ZOOM I use a Sound Devices MixPre 6 as my "go to"-recorder to join my Canon C200. The H4n Pro travels as a back-up, ambiance and foley recorder.
So Hans, I need to record wind instruments, brass and woodwinds....buy a Zoom then use an external mike? which one? Any of the Zooms or Tascamss good for recording trombone or French horn...also, I am not gadget silly, I need something that is not too complicated to operate outside of common sense.
I use the H5 in the field with Rode NTG2 and Sennheiser G4’s for video and it’s a workhorse. I rarely use the capsule, but when I do it’s been fine. I don’t have anything to compare it against, but I’m pleased with the results.
I bought a Zoom h4N 5 years ago. I use it as a field recorder, I attached it to an Alexa Mini camera as a ambience recorder (only problem here is that condenser mics are too sensitive and sometimes capture sound of hands on the top handle), even more, with an special cable that recorder could have delivered stereo audio into the camera, I know it’s possible. Now I use it to record rehearsals using 4 channels, and I’ve recorded electric guitar using a Sm57 and a R40 mic, all this direct into my DAW. It’s an incredible multi-task piece of equipment.
@Jennifer MapleWell, despite one is a multi function recorder and the other an interface only... I guess Focusrite could be better interface. But I've never compared them.
Here the H6 sounds better than the newer H5 model. I have both and find that the H5 has more bass and is more full (muddy even) which is great for vocal but the H6 is better for everything else.
I would love to have H4n Pro or H5 or H6 because I really need XLR inputs. Right now I do all my recordings with cheapo usb mixer that requires electricity.
finally! a review that can help me choose....h4n pro BLACK the new one, and zoom h5.... I just started the video so I will learn after I watch, but please give me your thoughts about the new sexy h4npro black vs h5
Great explanation, Can you please tell me connect to connect ZoomH1n and Boya BY M1 lav mic to my smartphone so that I can record Audio and Video in together.
very useful, apart from the "haitches", as i'm looking for a replacement for my yamaha pocketrak 24 which has vanished! (good excuse to get something with more features!) thank you!
can you suggest a recorder that can allow you mono line in and mono mic in simultaneously on separate tracks? Perhaps one on left and one on right? With they let you individually choose with the two XLRs of then can be set to line or mic separately from each other but record at the same time on separate channels?
Ok, came here for the zoom recorders but your voice sounds so clear when it's recorded by the lav mic, I'm considering instead getting one of those! Can I ask what model are you using? Thanks!
im confuse on choosing zoom h4n pro or h5 for my asmr video i'll put the device like 30-35cm from me,which one will make my audio crisp and sensitivee?
@@turn-n-burn1421 nope - it's an English thing specifically, and not country-wide. some regions emphasize it and others don't. but in all cases, the aspirated 'Heich' never made it to the US or the other British colonies, for the most part.
Finally a real review. Pisses me off with the marketing shite RUclipsrs who know nothing about the products are at the top of the search. The only advantage I can see in the dearer units is the XLR for directional microphones like the SURE series. The sound is so similar in the top 4. The cheapest has a noticeable poorer sound. However, a comparison between a smartphone with a very good external microphone to one of these would be a great review. Thanks for your video, subbed. By the way, you look like Allan Ruck ( Ferrari kicker) from Ferris Bueller's Day Off. ;)
Lets be honest now... If your H6 or any of your zooms stop working.. Good luck trying to get it repaired. Turns out Zoom UK doesnt allow any private repair companies to get parts. Do yourself a favour and burn it , if it breaks down

Thanks for letting us know you have a $900 pre amp and $6000 camera while we are looking at cheap recorders.
Skip Brewer I skip this bland response. I just try to think along and give advice. And may I ask what your contribution is to this topic?
If you had a quick look on Google you would see that the H4N, H5 and H6 all have phantom power. You mustn't have known where to look in the settings.
Jakob Booth I only refer to the optional XLR extension. That module does not deliver phantom power through the additional two XLR inputs.

@Jennifer Maple Not really, considering I record noisy music and I have no more professional equipment, I think the Zoom does a pretty good job.
@Jennifer MapleWell, despite one is a multi function recorder and the other an interface only... I guess Focusrite could be better interface. But I've never compared them.

brilliant, pretty useful review. hard to beat that H6 for value, the channel pairing feature looks a bit of a pain unless you have childrens fingers.
Such a real down to earth review! Thank you
Most people know about haych and zed but did you know brits also say "Wubbleyou," "Veech," "Quayche," and "Jedd" for W, V, Q and J?
Which is better for record without wind noise at high speed on a motorcycle? Zoom h4n pro, h5 or h2n? Always using a deadcat.
very nice thank U. I will get the H2n. I have H5 and 3 mics for it (excellent)
Have you got the H2n? How’s the built in mic compare to h5?
Just get the Haitch 6 you will be glad you did...
