Humphrey says "I'm afraid this cycle will never end."
Map of Truth says "They are revived time and time again..."
What they are implying is that Headspace is a cycle, a sort of magical reoccuring dream*. Every time your friends die or Sunny gets close to this "Truth" something impedes him and the game/dream is reset. Those mountains of bones in Humphrey's stomach and scattered in Sweetheart's dungeon? Those are the bones of your dead teammates from previous cycles.
Your teammates turning into toast is a cartoony censorship for death. Those bones are what are actually left behind. Technically every tine you die/Game Over is canon.
The path to the "Truth" is moved every time a new cycle begins. You can't find the Lighthouse on this route, but the Barn on Otherworld and the Library underneath Sweetheart's castle used to be pathways to the Truth. That's why they house Sunny's real memories. Headspace is a distraction from whatever's bothering Sunny. These dark areas are where Sunny's real uncensored thoughts and feeling lay.
The lines about Mari are very important, but you need to play the main route to get the full context.
*There are 4 NPCs that clue you in on what Headspace is and Sunny's relationship to it: Daddy Longlegs (Pyrefly Forest), Keeper of the Castle (Sweetheart's Castle), Mr. Outback (Orange Oasis), and Branch Coral (Deeper Well). They're all found behind hidden doors + Mr. Outback only appears in a short window of time. The wiki has their dialogue typed out if you just wanna read it.

The route you’re currently on, if I’m being honest, doesn’t reveal too much about the main story. When you’ve finished your initial run, I recommend going back to open the door to KEL, which will put you on the true route! It’s definitely a much larger emotional rollercoaster. But please, definitely do finish this route first! When you look back, you’ll see how much the tiny hints and stuff mattered! Also, quick tip when replaying, if you don’t wanna deal with the bosses and you want to get through to the main content, using COFFE on a HAPPY KEL when he flexes, then proceeding to do RUN ‘N GUN pretty much one shots any enemy! I’m so glad people are still playing omori, and I hope you find the true ending as gut wrenching as I did 🥲

@@CrowTheTrueGod you don't have to but i still recommemd it. Also to keep checking every mirror you find. The ghostly apparitions Sunny sees in the real world are foreshadowing. They look scary but wont attack you.
Fun fact, the spirits/ghosts/apparitions you've seen so far are based on a real creatures from Japanese mythology: the ushirogami (fear personified), the onryo (angry ghost), and the rokurokubi (long-necked yōkai).
Some Headspace NPCs and rnemies are also based on yōkai: Po, the Snow Bunnies, and maybe Van (he reminds me of an oni). Seems that Sunny knows his folklore.

Headspace (vast forest, other world etc) all these places are considered in the dream world
    On the other hand
When sunny wakes up he is in the real world and he is seeing things that aren’t there because of his trauma but all that’s in the real world is actually real it’s his real life
