BBC 2010 Election opening titles - as they should be!

- Apologies for the awful capture of the video (free program, and it's late, and I've got work tomorrow - and I've got to vote too), but I was horrified to see that the BBC have planned the titles to their 2010 General Election coverage without the iconic Rick Wakeman music.
So I've done it for them, using the swooping choirs and massed orchestra of the 1992 arrangement (which I think is rather OTT for an election featuring John Major and Paddy Ashdown).
I think the visuals, with clips of past prime ministers, are terrific. Particularly the bit where the sun appears to shine out of Blair's back side.
I've cheated ever so slightly by slowing down the flight over South London (Look! There's my house!) in the second half of the titles, but apart from that the music fits terrifically.
The title speaks for itself! Thank you! And I thought I was the only who care about this.
Now THAT'S how it should be tonight.
It even syncs up pretty well - the bit with Churchill and Big Ben turning white in particular.
Get it done, Auntie Beeb!
Excellent work, many thanks. If there's one crumb of comfort, it's that the BBC ditched King Arthur for the 2001 GE coverage, but then re-introduced it for the 05 coverage. If they've made amends before, they can do so again.
This is BRILLIANT... so stirring as the music changes when the clip heads out from London into the country... WE MUST GET THE BEEB TO SEE THIS AND USE IT TONIGHT...
Only a matter of time before someone did this. Brilliant!
Excellent. Shame on the BBC for changing the Music. This is indeed how it should have started. This Music IS the Election.
I did this the other day and im thrilled someone uploaded it. Fits perfectly in my opinion. I did the same for 2001 as well and it just doesnt fit in really, though it still made it look better.
As far as I'm concerned, this IS the new election night opener. I don't care what's on telly tonight!
Reminds me of the awards ceremonies at London 2012.
Just played this as the titles came on bbc1 :)
Attlee should have come before Churchill. Churchill only won one election and that was 1951 after Attlee
Brilliant. And how it should have been!
The BBC used this music (slightly varied) in 1979, 1983, 1987, 1992, 1997 and 2005. Bizarrely, they did not in 2001 and 2010.
I've been looking for this arrangement of Arthur for ages - where can I get the mp3? (not itunes please!)
Awesome! As far as the music matching the graphics goes, the new graphics are shit anyways. The BBC should change what doesn't work, not what does. :)
I appreciate the nostalgia of many commenters here, but really, "Arthur" doesn't fit with the graphics at all. Or with with the whole style of this election night, for that matter; it sounds a bit heavy and pompous. It certainly fit with the slower-paced overhead shots of Britain shown in older election-night openers, but the pace has quickened considerably since. That said, I might like the piece a bit more with a more modern instrumentation (and by "modern" I mean "more instrumental").
Try playing "Arthur" to the 2001 opener, it's far worse than this is. I think this is great, but you might probably like the 2005 song better.
the music they used was much nicer than this....
@merlinmalone Drop me a PM and I'll send you a link to one.
this old sounding music doesn't suit the modern graphics...
stuck in the past..
Damn right. The thing the BBC are proposing to use sounds like a cheap rip off or a Chris Morris parody.
