I like that you use colour and not just black, white and neutrals. For me that would be too boring especially in winter when it's already so gloomy with short days and long nights.

I have just found you. (lockdown) My daughter and I (after watching your videos) have emptied our closets and simplified. We go out, and a store clerk says, "You two are styling!" This! So much has gone into the trash- but I must, becuase I deal in art, have clothes I don't mind getting destroyed- so much got tossed, and I'm glad of it. I love the trench coat so much, but in my rural area, could not find a store that offered them, and ordering online, with my size, is a crapshoot. I ended up buying a vintage pattern to sew it
Totally agree with your position on "sexy." Over revealing can be tacky. "Sexy" is intriguing, captivating, mysterious, alluring. Revealing is demanding attention. There is no mystery in a dress that is low cut, high cut, skin tight and hot pink all at once. If one desires some reveal, choose one reveal, not every reveal.

I love your style, your haircut, your simple but very chic makeup, and of course your beautiful accent. I don’t know how tall you are, but you look tall. I think it’s easier to look good in clothes when you’re slender. Fuller figured ladies can look fabulous as well, it’s just easier when you’re slim (like you). Slim women seem to be able to pull off almost any look and even more so if you’re tall and slim.

Thank you Marie-Anne, I really enjoyed this video. I am struggling a bit (being 51 now) with my style. Knowing I must change from the skinny jeans (which I loved) to a little more classic. It's hard work, but I have received a few compliments since trying to change (you know a white shirt instead of a T-shirt, wide trousers instead of skinny's) so I must be on the right track. But as you say you need to try new things out and it really works! Thank you for the encouragement that you don't need to be a slave to all the trends, but just tweak your outfits to keep yourself modern.

Another great video! I agree on the haircut suggestion. Even if someone is wearing a knockout outfit, but they have long ,straggly hair, no one will see the outfit. The hair detracts from the face, if not done up properly. I agree on the low cut, short skirts. Leave those for the younger gals. We already did it once! Great advice Marie-Anne. I (almost 67) have a style journal with color blocks. I use colored pencils to record looks I put together, (including accessories) so I will remember them. I've always had a sense of style but adjusted it a few years ago. I call my main look classic, effortless chic with a twist (or an edge, depending) and I also have a very subtle boho look I enjoy once in a while. I've found I can really change-up my look with different jackets and blazers (and shoes). You have helped me develop my style. Thank you!

A wonderful topic again. It made me think of my grandma because she always looked 10 years younger than she really was and listening to you I could see followed the same principles. Classic pieces mixed with something more trendy but not too obvious. Fresh and chic haircuts, natural looking makeup, zero flashy jewelry and darker colors but with a touch of color (scarf, shoes, a blouse that made the whole ensemble stand out ). All made in a very subtle way. But as she said and I think the same, young women under 30 are beautiful and sweet but mature women are sexy, attractive, gorgeous and incredibly interesting because they have wisdom, experience and came to an age when they know their body, they like and accept it and learned how to highlight their best features. This is a topic I can’t keep short in words because being raised by a grandma and having lived among her friends and sisters pretty much her age, made me admire mature ladies. Another thing, you look as young as your heart and Marie-Anne you are a perfect example! So go ladies, these are the best years. You are in the perfect age. For the _first_ time in my life, I wore ripped jeans the other day! That is, I wore them for about 20 minutes -- after ripping them climbing over a barbed-wire fence while doing some plumbing maintenance around my property -- and that was how long it took me to get back to the house! I will repair them, but now they'll only be worn for gardening and other yard-work (and future barbed-wire fence-climbing plumbing-expeditions!), for I totally agree with you -- ripped jeans are NOT chic, no matter what your age.

You've just reminded me of some great advice that my wonderful Dad gave me years ago, when we were talking about women's appearance. Always leave something to the imagination!!! He was so right!! The gentleman in my life has always said the same thing!! Thanks, darling Daddy!!
Another element to explore is color. Flattering color is based on complexion, not hair or even eye color. It's important to know what colors close to the face flatter and minimize lines. Then the closet will reflect with compatible colors that mix well with each other. Marie -Anne is a Winter and looks great in black, lipstick red, etc. But a Summer looks best in off-black, muted finish fabrics, cool greys, off-white, etc. Springs looks amazing in bright orange and orange-red, colors that would be awful on others. Autumns looks beautiful in mustard yellow and olive green, which no one else can handle near the face. Marie-Anne's face pops with the right colors which she of course chooses for herself. And the bright red lipstick works on her but would fail on other seasons. Winters rule because they are the majority of complexions and the fashion industry supplies more clothes in their colors. Pop the collar, push up the sleeves, sometimes works to make something look better
As I've gotten to the age of "over fifty" to the next decade, I have had to adjust and think about what is too young for me. I still think of myself as thirty or forty. I have lost weight and so I have gotten a renewed interest in putting on fashion that fits me and that I haven't been able to wear for years. I do not have a set style because I want to experience all looks and styles. As an American, we basically wear what is comfortable which is most of the time dumpy things that a French woman would cringe at. As we get into that stage of life where we are no longer in the working world, our style changes and we do not need the clothing we did when we went to work. I end up going to the grocery store with no makeup and looking dumpy as ever. I want to be that woman that looks good no matter where she goes. These styling tips you gave in this video give some good examples for me. We all have jeans and a nice shirt and jacket. Looking put together without looking like we've tried is a mantra we all can use as women.

I am turning 50 next year and for the past 6 months I have given about 30-40 bags of clothes, shoes and bags to my local second hand shop as I no longer feel the styles that I used to like are "me" anymore! I am enjoying embracing a more classic style now I am older - as Audrey Hepburn said in Breakfast at Tiffany's - its tacky to wear diamonds unless you're over 40 haha!

My husband had a good idea....buy an instant camera. Take pictures of your outfits as you try them on and put them in a binder. That way if you get into a rut of wearing the same thing over and over, you can go to the binder for inspiration. Plus, what your eye sees isn't always what others see. It can give you a new perspective on colors, shapes, and styles.

I think a lot depends on the particular print and your personal essence. For me, puffed sleeves have always been anathema. I saw a photo of an older model wearing a cute little dress with puffed sleeves, years ago, and she looked darling, but on me they always just looked wrong, even when I was a teenager. Your body type, your face type, and your essence make a lot of difference.
Thank You for this. I love that you say "subtle" for sexy. I've always thought you need to leave something for the imagination. One of my favourite styles is a nice white t-shirt with black pants and a chic jacket. Beautiful vibrant colour in my scarf is the topping on the cake for me.
Love this video! Now I know why I rarely wear my classic navy blazer; I have tried it with dresses, most of which are navy with a small floral pattern.. I feel fabulous when I wear a biker jacket with the dresses, but distinctly mumsy with the blazer. In the spring I will try to wear the blazer with a t shirt and jeans and I think I’ll wear it more. Thank you! I love the combination of your green tweed skirt and pink check blouse on you, and yes, a leather jacket is definitely a touch of rock n roll! I felt very chic yesterday wearing jeans and ankle boots, a shirt and cardigan, topped with my long camel coat, worn open as it was a pleasant day. The long coat took the outfit up a notch. I’ve had some fun this week wearing a plain trilby hat with a contrasting scarf pinned around the hatband, clustered into a sort of flower with a “diamond” headed pin in the centre.
Marie Anne, spot on as usual. I found changes necessary in the 60’s. Always loved suits. Now they feel severe and unflattering. Deconstructing the blazer still works, but the slacks and skirts didn’t seem to “stand alone” as well. As to earrings, I always wore studs or hoops. Have been trying earrings with a bit of dangle on wires. Also started wearing a ring on my right middle finger - only wore my wedding ring on the left hand in the past. Recently moved to ankle boots and tights under skirts. Small tweaks, but still favor tailored garments. Summer dressing is the most difficult. Hate little dresses and shorts. Ankle length slacks and tops are as far as I have gotten there. Thank you for the video. All the best.
French Chic 50 and Beyond! These are perfect tips or rules to follow at any age. I don't think cleavage should show at any age. That is not sexy. Sexy does not mean revealing too much. I always cover my arms, for me 3/4 sleeves. My friends wear sleeveless and it looks sooo bad. As you said in the previous video stockings make a world of difference in the way our legs and outfit look. Your lace blouse is very feminine and pretty. I think a touch of lace is perfect.You always look very chic and elegant.

Excellent video, Anne-Marie! Mixing jackets from suits with nice dark jeans or slacks gives it all a fresh new look & perspective! I also love your brown leather jacket! I'm still on the lookout for a good brown one! That always adds an edgy touch. I definitely want to look younger, but don't want to look like I'm "trying!" When my 5 y/o granddaughter asked how old I am, I replied, "I'm 56 and holding." Her next words were, "Gammi! What is 'and holding?' " I told her, "Sometimes when an adult gets to an age they like, they just choose to 'hold' or 'stay' there! So, I'm 'holding!'" "Oh." So, if you're "holding," your grandchildren may call you out on that! I, myself, intend to "hold" for a while longer! 🤫😉 I also liked the geometric print you showed. And sometimes polka-dot tops. But I'm always reminded of an older gentleman I served with on a board. After we heard an excellent speaker, I asked him what he thought about her. He replied, "I don't know. I just never like a woman in a polka-dot dress! I don't know why!" Now that I've been a therapist for 20 yrs, I have hunch I know why ... but won't tell him unless he should ask! Even yrs later, I remember the speaker said, "It's never too late to be what you might have been." It was a life-changing statement for me! But he couldn't get past her polka-dot dress! Here to say that as as a woman of the same age, trying to find clothing that is classic, age-appropriate, and NOT matronly is so hard. I swear, US stores think you should go straight from flashy junior/club wear to mom jeans and granny sweaters.

I’ve always thought small prints look momsy on me and for the most part wear prints in the scarves only . Occasionally I find a geometric print I like . I’ve concluded this is my style. Tailored shirts alone or under sweater with dark jeans are my usual dress style. Sometimes I do rethink what I find shopping as too young looking for me . Avoiding floral tops and bright coloured bottoms goes a long way to not dressing too old. I think this subject is something most women struggle a bit with once we are 50+
I wear mainly - monochrome or color-blocking in black, charcoal, navy or white. To add color to my ensemble, I might wear a bright tee shirt or accessory, such as a scarf. However, I do think a foulard print silk tee, in rich jewel colors, is elegant with an otherwise monochrome outfit, and as long as no other print is added, would not be frumpy.

TY for enabling us to look YOUNGER THAN SPRINGTIME. When I was 50 (ok that was 15 years ago), I played a background teen in a stage rock opera. I was able to wear my own beige trench coat (which I still own and wear from time to time as it still fits but I took out the bulky winter lining as it makes me look like a veggie sausage). As I mentioned last year, I had to stop over processing my super blonde hair because of shingles in the eye area that caused blisters. I opted for a medium sandy blonde which is close to my childhood hair color. I've received mega compliments on this more subdued hair color. My point is: you don't have to overdo fashion in order to look "younger."
I agree about choices in hair color and style. I think many, if not most, older women look better with a natural hair color, or letting their silver show. As long as your hair style is modern and you take care of your hair, maybe even by taking biotin to strengthen the follicles, if needed, you'll look cool and sharp.

l agree with your comments about knees. My mother instructioned me on this when l was younger. l have only worn on rare occasions skirts above my knees in winter, so l can wear winter weight tight that will cover my knees. Knees arent pretty after a certain age,,doesnt matter if your thin or not.

Your video is so refreshing and setting a pace in sense of what style is still elegant at any ages. I call it the Audrey Hepburn look too. I am 66 years old and many times my age is never closely guessed. As a child I loved the French living while living in Europe. I remained so in my teens then color to trends were an influence and sadly to say did not last a year. Yes classic. I have gone through a year of creating such a French capsule wardrobe. I love the term ‘mummsie”. This also means many purses, totes and bags in general to give away. I am so much happy with the elegant, simplicity of this style now. That even staying at home as we are I get up...put the make up on and dress. Even if I am not going out. I have a full house hold with two teenagers and two adult children that live with my husband and I so this my time. Thank you for the time you put in these lovely video’s.

Such a great topic, especially for those of us who are well beyond 50! I am 66 and do not want to look like my grandmother or mother did. I wear classic clothing, but own items such as a leather bomber jacket, plain white t-shirts, fashionable jeans and jean jackets. I wear my jean jacket with white, cream or black jeans and a scarf or necklace and booties. I tend to love dressy or "work" clothing, but that does not match my lifestyle, so I'm trying to create outfits that are casual, but attractive and relaxed. I agree that all classic clothing or matched suits is aging. You need to break up the suits and wear the pieces with the odd trendy separate and stylish shoes. Excellent video as always, Marie-Anne. Exactly! I am 66 until next week. I tell my husband that I don't want to dress like an old lady. he tells me you are old. Yes but Ican still look chic and fashionable. I wear the same items as you Carol. I am very careful not to dress too young. Nothing looks worse than trying to dress young when I clearly am not. Fashion can be fun at any age. I also have trouble dressing casual or down. I try but am still dressed up even in jeans.
I totally understand where you're coming from, Carol. I live on my Finca in Andalucía, Spain and am, at this point, trying to figure out how I can continue dressing tastefully, yet in a practical way, considering my new lifestyle and surroundings. Moreover, I'm also middle aged, and don't want to look like I'm trying to emulate a teenager with tee shirts and jeans. The video was really insightful and shows that accessorizing properly is a great key.
I think it's hard not to look overdressed in a society that now favors athleisure wear and ripped Jean's. I tend to wear dresses and skirts but have to make sure the length is right. Short legs and gray hair don't go well with tea length and makes one look frumpy.
I hate athliesure in public. No one is going to the gym. People wear spandex so tight you can see their skin. Many stylists wear ripped jeans, however I see nothing chic and elegant about them. We used to mend or get rid of torn clothing. I also dislike short wide leg pants or jeans that look like “ high waters”. Sadly most people dress slovenly and disgusting. Some actually don’t know how to dress.
Thank you for rating leggings on older women declasse! Also torn jeans. Also, tres gauche, is athletic wear anywhere but in a gym!! Especially if you're not fit!!! I get many compliments on the way I dress, but it's because I adhere to rules French women follow. The first time I was in France, in 1972, I spent as much time noting the way French women dress as I spent in the Louvre. I learned a lot from both.

Funny, couple of decades ago I visited Milan and saw an older woman wearing the Trench coat as a dress, but she wore skin color fishnet hose and a low heel pump she looked great and modern. Do love my trenchcoats, missed out on a beautiful purple monsoon trenchcoat in charity shop but as already have six in different colours guess I didn't really need it ha ha.. Yesterday bought a pair of marks and Spencer's bottle green bootleg jeans and paired perfectly with my various turtle necks sweaters.. Totally agree with your position on "sexy." Over revealing can be tacky. "Sexy" is intriguing, captivating, mysterious, alluring. Revealing is demanding attention. There is no mystery in a dress that is low cut, high cut, skin tight and hot pink all at once. If one desires some reveal, choose one reveal, not every reveal.

I love your style, your haircut, your simple but very chic makeup, and of course your beautiful accent. I don’t know how tall you are, but you look tall. I think it’s easier to look good in clothes when you’re slender. Fuller figured ladies can look fabulous as well, it’s just easier when you’re slim (like you). Slim women seem to be able to pull off almost any look and even more so if you’re tall and slim.
I was so fortunate to live in Montreal, Canada as a young woman...it trained my eye to decern the good from the best.

Thank you Marie-Anne, I really enjoyed this video. I am struggling a bit (being 51 now) with my style. Knowing I must change from the skinny jeans (which I loved) to a little more classic. It's hard work, but I have received a few compliments since trying to change (you know a white shirt instead of a T-shirt, wide trousers instead of skinny's) so I must be on the right track. But as you say you need to try new things out and it really works! Thank you for the encouragement that you don't need to be a slave to all the trends, but just tweak your outfits to keep yourself modern.

Another great video! I agree on the haircut suggestion. Even if someone is wearing a knockout outfit, but they have long ,straggly hair, no one will see the outfit. The hair detracts from the face, if not done up properly. I agree on the low cut, short skirts. Leave those for the younger gals. We already did it once! Thank you for pointing out the do's and don'ts.

Great advice Marie-Anne. I (almost 67) have a style journal with color blocks. I use colored pencils to record looks I put together, (including accessories) so I will remember them. I've always had a sense of style but adjusted it a few years ago. I call my main look classic, effortless chic with a twist (or an edge, depending) and I also have a very subtle boho look I enjoy once in a while. I've found I can really change-up my look with different jackets and blazers (and shoes). You have helped me develop my style. Thank you!

A wonderful topic again. It made me think of my grandma because she always looked 10 years younger than she really was and listening to you I could see followed the same principles.
Classic pieces mixed with something more trendy but not too obvious. Fresh and chic haircuts, natural looking makeup, zero flashy jewelry and darker colors but with a touch of color (scarf, shoes, a blouse that made the whole ensemble stand out ). All made in a very subtle way.
But as she said and I think the same, young women under 30 are beautiful and sweet but mature women are sexy, attractive, gorgeous and incredibly interesting because they have wisdom, experience and came to an age when they know their body, they like and accept it and learned how to highlight their best features.
This is a topic I can’t keep short in words because being raised by a grandma and having lived among her friends and sisters pretty much her age, made me admire mature ladies.
Another thing, you look as young as your heart and Marie-Anne you are a perfect example!
So go ladies, these are the best years. You are in the perfect age. The previous years were just a rehearsal for this!

For the _first_ time in my life, I wore ripped jeans the other day!
That is, I wore them for about 20 minutes -- after ripping them climbing over a barbed-wire fence while doing some plumbing maintenance around my property -- and that was how long it took me to get back to the house! I will repair them, but now they'll only be worn for gardening and other yard-work (and future barbed-wire fence-climbing plumbing-expeditions!), for I totally agree with you -- ripped jeans are NOT chic, no matter what your age.

Marie-Ann, I absolutely love your green suit worn together. It's beautiful and suits you so well. It's a classic and epitomises style.
Another element to explore is color. Flattering color is based on complexion, not hair or even eye color. It's important to know what colors close to the face flatter and minimize lines. Then the closet will reflect with compatible colors that mix well with each other. Marie -Anne is a Winter and looks great in black, lipstick red, etc. But a Summer looks best in off-black, muted finish fabrics, cool greys, off-white, etc. Springs looks amazing in bright orange and orange-red, colors that would be awful on others. Autumns looks beautiful in mustard yellow and olive green, which no one else can handle near the face. Marie-Anne's face pops with the right colors which she of course chooses for herself. And the bright red lipstick works on her but would fail on other seasons. Winters rule because they are the majority of complexions and the fashion industry supplies more clothes in their colors. Pop the collar, push up the sleeves, sometimes works to make something look better
As I've gotten to the age of "over fifty" to the next decade, I have had to adjust and think about what is too young for me. I still think of myself as thirty or forty. I have lost weight and so I have gotten a renewed interest in putting on fashion that fits me and that I haven't been able to wear for years. I do not have a set style because I want to experience all looks and styles. As an American, we basically wear what is comfortable which is most of the time dumpy things that a French woman would cringe at. As we get into that stage of life where we are no longer in the working world, our style changes and we do not need the clothing we did when we went to work. I end up going to the grocery store with no makeup and looking dumpy as ever. I want to be that woman that looks good no matter where she goes. These styling tips you gave in this video give some good examples for me. We all have jeans and a nice shirt and jacket. Looking put together without looking like we've tried is a mantra we all can use as women.

I am turning 50 next year and for the past 6 months I have given about 30-40 bags of clothes, shoes and bags to my local second hand shop as I no longer feel the styles that I used to like are "me" anymore! I am enjoying embracing a more classic style now I am older - as Audrey Hepburn said in Breakfast at Tiffany's - its tacky to wear diamonds unless you're over 40 haha!

My husband had a good idea....buy an instant camera. Take pictures of your outfits as you try them on and put them in a binder. That way if you get into a rut of wearing the same thing over and over, you can go to the binder for inspiration. Plus, what your eye sees isn't always what others see. It can give you a new perspective on colors, shapes, and styles.
Superb advice ! Thank you. I recommend to invest in a fabric shaver and a clothes steamer to quickly remove wrinkles and tailor pieces when possible so that you look polished.

Also I agree with your tip not to over do the sexy look. I think young and older can have a problem with trying too hard for the sexy look.

I think a lot depends on the particular print and your personal essence. For me, puffed sleeves have always been anathema. I saw a photo of an older model wearing a cute little dress with puffed sleeves, years ago, and she looked darling, but on me they always just looked wrong, even when I was a teenager. Your body type, your face type, and your essence make a lot of difference.
Thank You for this. I love that you say "subtle" for sexy. I've always thought you need to leave something for the imagination. One of my favourite styles is a nice white t-shirt with black pants and a chic jacket. Beautiful vibrant colour in my scarf is the topping on the cake for me.
Love this video! Now I know why I rarely wear my classic navy blazer; I have tried it with dresses, most of which are navy with a small floral pattern.. I feel fabulous when I wear a biker jacket with the dresses, but distinctly mumsy with the blazer. In the spring I will try to wear the blazer with a t shirt and jeans and I think I’ll wear it more. Thank you! I love the combination of your green tweed skirt and pink check blouse on you, and yes, a leather jacket is definitely a touch of rock n roll! I felt very chic yesterday wearing jeans and ankle boots, a shirt and cardigan, topped with my long camel coat, worn open as it was a pleasant day. The long coat took the outfit up a notch. I’ve had some fun this week wearing a plain trilby hat with a contrasting scarf pinned around the hatband, clustered into a sort of flower with a “diamond” headed pin in the centre.
I tried on a navy blazer just this week (I'm 70) and saw an airline stewardess in the mirror - just not for me...and it's such a classic!
Marie Anne, spot on as usual. I found changes necessary in the 60’s. Always loved suits. Now they feel severe and unflattering. Deconstructing the blazer still works, but the slacks and skirts didn’t seem to “stand alone” as well. As to earrings, I always wore studs or hoops. Have been trying earrings with a bit of dangle on wires. Also started wearing a ring on my right middle finger - only wore my wedding ring on the left hand in the past. Recently moved to ankle boots and tights under skirts. Small tweaks, but still favor tailored garments. Summer dressing is the most difficult. Hate little dresses and shorts. Ankle length slacks and tops are as far as I have gotten there. Thank you for the video. All the best.
French Chic 50 and Beyond! These are perfect tips or rules to follow at any age. I don't think cleavage should show at any age. That is not sexy. Sexy does not mean revealing too much. I always cover my arms, for me 3/4 sleeves. My friends wear sleeveless and it looks sooo bad. As you said in the previous video stockings make a world of difference in the way our legs and outfit look. Your lace blouse is very feminine and pretty. I think a touch of lace is perfect.You always look very chic and elegant.
Too hot in FL not to be sleeveless. I try to cover up as much as I can, tho.

Excellent video, Anne-Marie! Mixing jackets from suits with nice dark jeans or slacks gives it all a fresh new look & perspective! I also love your brown leather jacket! I'm still on the lookout for a good brown one! That always adds an edgy touch. I definitely want to look younger, but don't want to look like I'm "trying!" When my 5 y/o granddaughter asked how old I am, I replied, "I'm 56 and holding." Her next words were, "Gammi! What is 'and holding?' " I told her, "Sometimes when an adult gets to an age they like, they just choose to 'hold' or 'stay' there! So, I'm 'holding!'" "Oh." So, if you're "holding," your grandchildren may call you out on that! I, myself, intend to "hold" for a while longer! 🤫😉 I also liked the geometric print you showed. And sometimes polka-dot tops. But I'm always reminded of an older gentleman I served with on a board. After we heard an excellent speaker, I asked him what he thought about her. He replied, "I don't know. I just never like a woman in a polka-dot dress! I don't know why!" Now that I've been a therapist for 20 yrs, I have hunch I know why ... but won't tell him unless he should ask! Even yrs later, I remember the speaker said, "It's never too late to be what you might have been." It was a life-changing statement for me! But he couldn't get past her polka-dot dress! I’ve always thought small prints look momsy on me and for the most part wear prints in the scarves only . Occasionally I find a geometric print I like . I’ve concluded this is my style. Tailored shirts alone or under sweater with dark jeans are my usual dress style. Sometimes I do rethink what I find shopping as too young looking for me . Avoiding floral tops and bright coloured bottoms goes a long way to not dressing too old. I think this subject is something most women struggle a bit with once we are 50+
I wear mainly - monochrome or color-blocking in black, charcoal, navy or white. To add color to my ensemble, I might wear a bright tee shirt or accessory, such as a scarf. However, I do think a foulard print silk tee, in rich jewel colors, is elegant with an otherwise monochrome outfit, and as long as no other print is added, would not be frumpy.

TY for enabling us to look YOUNGER THAN SPRINGTIME. When I was 50 (ok that was 15 years ago), I played a background teen in a stage rock opera. I was able to wear my own beige trench coat (which I still own and wear from time to time as it still fits but I took out the bulky winter lining as it makes me look like a veggie sausage). As I mentioned last year, I had to stop over processing my super blonde hair because of shingles in the eye area that caused blisters. I opted for a medium sandy blonde which is close to my childhood hair color. I've received mega compliments on this more subdued hair color. My point is: you don't have to overdo fashion in order to look "younger."
I agree about choices in hair color and style. I think many, if not most, older women look better with a natural hair color, or letting their silver show. As long as your hair style is modern and you take care of your hair, maybe even by taking biotin to strengthen the follicles, if needed, you'll look cool and sharp.
You make me feel a can still appear stylish without actually showing anything!! I have two suits that l have learned from you., make excellent blazers and skirts that are now separates and worn with comfortable shoes and interesting tops and shirts!! Thanks to you!!!

My mother instructioned me on this when l was younger. l have only worn on rare occasions skirts above my knees in winter, so l can wear winter weight tight that will cover my knees. Knees arent pretty after a certain age,,doesnt matter if your thin or not.

Great Video. I think a good idea is print out the capsule closet essentials list. Go through your closet and check off what you have. When you go shopping take it with you and this will keep you on track to not impulse buy! I’m a work in progress! Lol !
Your video is so refreshing and setting a pace in sense of what style is still elegant at any ages. I call it the Audrey Hepburn look too. I am 66 years old and many times my age is never closely guessed. As a child I loved the French living while living in Europe. I remained so in my teens then color to trends were an influence and sadly to say did not last a year. Yes classic. I have gone through a year of creating such a French capsule wardrobe. I love the term ‘mummsie”. This also means many purses, totes and bags in general to give away. I am so much happy with the elegant, simplicity of this style now. That even staying at home as we are I get up...put the make up on and dress. Even if I am not going out. I have a full house hold with two teenagers and two adult children that live with my husband and I so this my time. Thank you for the time you put in these lovely video’s.

I saw a sign just before we entered a small town that said "dress for the figure you have, not for the one you wish you had" A lot of people should take that to heart.
Such a great topic, especially for those of us who are well beyond 50! I am 66 and do not want to look like my grandmother or mother did. I wear classic clothing, but own items such as a leather bomber jacket, plain white t-shirts, fashionable jeans and jean jackets. I wear my jean jacket with white, cream or black jeans and a scarf or necklace and booties. I tend to love dressy or
"work" clothing, but that does not match my lifestyle, so I'm trying to create outfits that are casual, but attractive and relaxed. I agree that all classic clothing or matched suits is aging. You need to break up the suits and wear the pieces with the odd trendy separate and stylish shoes. Excellent video as always, Marie-Anne. Merci beaucoup!!
Exactly! I am 66 until next week. I tell my husband that I don't want to dress like an old lady. he tells me you are old. Yes but Ican still look chic and fashionable. I wear the same items as you Carol. I am very careful not to dress too young. Nothing looks worse than trying to dress young when I clearly am not. Fashion can be fun at any age. I also have trouble dressing casual or down. I try but am still dressed up even in jeans.
I totally understand where you're coming from, Carol. I live on my Finca in Andalucía, Spain and am, at this point, trying to figure out how I can continue dressing
tastefully, yet in a practical way, considering my new lifestyle and surroundings. Moreover, I'm also middle aged, and don't want to look like I'm trying to emulate a teenager with tee shirts and jeans. The video was really insightful and shows that accessorizing properly is a great key.
I think it's hard not to look overdressed in a society that now favors athleisure wear and ripped Jean's. I tend to wear dresses and skirts but have to make sure the length is right. Short legs and gray hair don't go well with tea length and makes one look frumpy.
I hate athliesure in public. No one is going to the gym. People wear spandex so tight you can see their skin. Many stylists wear ripped jeans, however I see nothing chic and elegant about them. We used to mend or get rid of torn clothing. I also dislike short wide leg pants or jeans that look like “ high waters”. Sadly most people dress slovenly and disgusting. Some actually don’t know how to dress.
@@lindariddle2276 Exactly...many people wearing athleisure wear don't even exercise and are really overweight. It makes no sense.
Thank you for rating leggings on older women declasse! Also torn jeans. Also, tres gauche, is athletic wear anywhere but in a gym!! Especially if you're not fit!!! I get many compliments on the way I dress, but it's because I adhere to rules French women follow. The first time I was in France, in 1972, I spent as much time noting the way French women dress as I spent in the Louvre. I learned a lot from both.

Marie Anne I enjoyed your video very much, even more now that I am in the middle of covid-19 epidemic. I really really needed to concentrate on something beautiful and joyful as your video on style. I think pretty and modern over sexy is a must after 40. It's just my personal opinion. Your hair style is absolutely perfect on you and gives a special touch on your outfits! A year ago I went short cut too and it was a blessing for my look too: a girlfriend of mine convinced me saying I would look much younger and she was right!! Fantastic video Marie-Anne! Great pointers on giving classic pieces a refreshed look. Women I think can use accessories to make a Grammy looking outfit look new or updated. Funny, couple of decades ago I visited Milan and saw an older woman wearing the Trench coat as a dress, but she wore skin color fishnet hose and a low heel pump she looked great and modern. Thanks for all the great advice you give through your channel!

Bonjour Marie Anne... Loving this video this morning. Do love my trenchcoats, missed out on a beautiful purple monsoon trenchcoat in charity shop but as already have six in different colours guess I didn't really need it ha ha.. Yesterday bought a pair of marks and Spencer's bottle green bootleg jeans and paired perfectly with my various turtle necks sweaters.. Our weather here soooo bad, it seems to have been raining since October 2019.. Enjoy the weekend Paula x
