I have heard that these days, Kakefu-Kun manages a convenience store. That’s better than most child actors who usually rob them.

I always preffered the look of magical hat on megadrive/genesis to the decap attack that we got in the west. But then I always preffered bright' colourful and quirky graphics in my games. Was a big fan of psycho fox as well and thought it was an equal to super mario bros in a way I never thought Alex kidd was.

Nintendo manufactured toys in Japan back in the late 1960s-early 1970s, but it wasn't until after Sega purchased Japanese toy manufacturer Yonezawa in 1991, that Sega diversified into toys (with Yonezawa being renamed Sega Toys), whose well-known products in the West were the Sega Pico and the iDog (which was licensed out to Tiger Electronics).
Both companies manufactured toys at different times in their history, with the distinction being that Nintendo did so before branching out into video games, while Sega manufactured toys and video games at the same time.

    • @GTV-Japan

Yeah that’s true. I had that in the draft but cut it out to keep things under 30. But I bring it up because if you say anything about Sega you usually get hit with “muh kawnsole wuurs” and it drives me crazy. Especially after coming to japan and seeing that Sega just has a different kind of brand visibility here. Thanks for watching!

Psycho Fox was so big for the Master System in some parts of Europe, my French friends are always blown away when I tell them the game never even came out on MarkIII in Japan.

This was an interesting video. I was aware of the Magical Hat-Decap Attack connection thanks to my history with Sonic the Comic (thanks for giving it a shout-out in the video, it's nice to see more of STC being remembered than just 'Evil Super Sonic'), which i have a habit of mentioning to people more than necessary just so that the Nintendo Kids don't get to hog all the trivia (just like you did in the video!), but I had no awareness of how it spread out into such a wide multimedia landscape, so lots of this was genuinely new stuff to me.

The dog with the floppy ears vs the pig also a coward, the girl much like Bulma with a bit of Lunch, the old man has a Roshi look, even Hat looks a light bit like Goku and the mech reminds me of a capsule. Enemies too, I'm seeing a bit of Pilar's cronies, especially the fox. It's nice to see some unaddressed parallels here. Shame when the game came out in the US it was wrecked with dopey cemetery look of it all with decap attack on genesis, and the other kid kool at least wasn't twisted on nes.

Dragon Ball was the most popular anime in Japan even before the Z saga, and it directly superseded Dr Slump’s huge success (Dragon Ball was ironically supposed to be a reliever project to get out of the pressure from Dr Slump’s success). And adding Dragon Quest on top… It only makes sense that Toriyama’s work would have a huge influence on all the anime series from that era, consciously or not.

Oh man I absolutely loved this game!!
    And still play it today.
Basically my mate had a Japanese import megadrive (we are in uk)
Basically my mate had games like aleste musha, this game, streets of rage 1, golden axe, twin cobra, hang on, women's wrestling by asmik... quite a collection that his dad bought back from Japan.
I was very jealous as an 8 year old as I had a master system and thought I had a gotcha moment when I noticed he didn't have a pause button.....then he pressed start lol.
Anyway time goes on and I'm 14 or thereabouts and he offers me some of these games like musha for very little money (showed me i could play them on my UK megadrive via takin off the plastic cartridge and putting the PCB straight in)
    - I didn't take note, but was happy to buy his games (aleste, this game, womens wrestling and twin cobra) for 20 notes. 5 each.
Turns out he ended up a heroin addict and that was the reason.
He died aged 18 when his own dealer overdosed him because he wouldn't stop snoring. The whole family is steeped in tragedy as there were 4 kids. 1 died of a heroin overdose as stated and another passed on through a random brain hemorrhage- who had just released a debut pop album!!
So this game has lots of history too me.
Decap attack just isn't colourful etc. Compared; plus I knew there was a link between this and psycho fox on the master system which I had also.

It had the atmosphere of a lot of Cosgrove Hall-style wacky Halloween spookiness, like Count Duckula.
