  • The last time that I cut threads on my Atlas 618 Lathe I had a problem with the half nuts engaging. This short video is the replacement of the half nuts. I have very good spare set off of a rusty lathe that I am using for parts.

    Hi Steve, I could see the interference as you were assembling, and I was thinking, if you watched the video first then assembled it you would know, ha-ha! Any ways, that is one sweet little lathe and the maintenance videos are always entertaining to us "armchair" comrades. Cheers and have a nice day!

      I saw it as it happened so as soon as the interference reared its ugly head I knew exactly what the problem was. Thanks for watching and keeping me honest.

      @@MotoRestoFL That is one of the things that I like about the Atlas lathes. They are relatively easy to work on and most parts are available.

    I have a 12" Craftsman lathe and I had a pair of half nuts that I had purchased new in the 1970's and I installed them a couple of years ago. I wish now that I had purchased maybe 3 sets or so.

    • @sharkrivermachine
      @sharkrivermachine  5 лет назад +1

      This set came from a lathe that was given to me by a friend. It had been stored in a basement for many years and was very rusty. It was not really a candidate for restoration so I have been using it for spare parts. I just purchased a 10" Atlas lathe so that will be showing up in near future videos. Thanks for watching and commenting.

      @@sharkrivermachine Are you restoring or repairing the 10"? I have a 10" Atlas TH42 with a QCGB so I will be tuning in to your channel.

      @sharkrivermachine  5 лет назад +1

      @@Pagweldfab I think that the 10" is in good shape. I am going to set it up and use it. I am sure that there will be some repairs and up-grades in the future. I will be doing videos on the set up, repair, and use. Thanks for stopping by.

    On Ebay there is a store selling brass half nuts for the Atlas 618 / Craftsman 101 lathes. There are 2 sizes and he has both but the set is $85.00 shipped. I got a set and they are worth the money.

    Nicely done. Reworking the worn out half nut assembly to use replaceable brass 'jaws' might make a nice little video project?
