- In this video, we discover Bobby Fischer's eternal love for the reproduction of his favorite set of chess pieces: The Dubrovnik Chess Set.
First appeared in Dubrovnik, Croatia for the 9th Olympiad in 1950 assembling chess players from all around the world, the Dubrovnik Chess Set gained worldwide recognition for having a great feel to them amongst many other great characteristics about them.
Today, I unbox the remarkable reproduction of these ancient pieces by the chess wholesaler ChessBazaar with three different angles to optimize your viewership quality.

Surprised you don’t know Najdorf! He’s one of the all time greats, his variation of the Sicilian is one of the most common at top levels. You’re in for a treat if you look into his games, he’s got some really great ones. Also it’s pronounced nigh-dorf, nigh like high. Thanks for the video!
Алекса́ндр Але́хин I know Najdorf! And am a big fan of his chess. I think I just didn’t know how to pronounce his name (french versus english pronunciation conflict of interest)! I am currently analyzing the infamous 1953 Zürich International Chess Tournament of which Najdorf made a book on (but I own the Bronstein version, sadly). Najdorf had a couple of banger games in that tournament. Did you know he was rich? I learned that he was a businessman, a part from being a tremendous chess player.

first off, 2 thumbs up on you video. next, fyi, the american player steiner that you don't know was international master herman steiner. he created the steiner chess set, aka the piatigorsky cup tournament set. this set is featured prominently in the book: the second piatigorsky cup. a reproduction of this chess set is also available and is worth collecting.

What i like the most with this set is the 5 cuts in its rook,,you seldom.see set with 5cuts on the rooks,most are 6 or 4 cuts

Nice pieces. I know Fischer thought highly of this set. Not exactly my taste. I prefer ebony wood for the black pieces. Very good choice on that board of yours though, good quality, and the right size for this set.
Thanks for your input, William! I personally love more brown pieces when it comes to wood (instead of ebony) just because it's easier for my audience to see the details of the pieces due to the lighter shade (and personal preference).

ronald. House of Staunton have a huge shipping cost when exporting to countries outside the US (in my case, Canada), it simply wouldn’t have been financially wise

Welcome to the channel ❤️ I think you need to chill but that’s just me 🤷♂️ No religious symbols meaning (exactly!) no Christian symbols as that is the theme of about 80% of the wooden chess pieces I have come across... Although, admittedly to your point, Islam saw chess before Europeans (Christians), these chess pieces were designed for the 1949 Chess Olympiad by P. Poček in Yougoslavia. Now, both the Republic of Croatia and The designer were Orthodox so by saying no religious symbols I’m questioning the unlikeliness that this set of piecws doesn’t have religious symbols. Now for your Islamic argument... tops of islamic mosques (in general) are round with a speared top which i dont see here (tops of the pieces are oval-ish and not ‘spiked’)... Again, thanks for sharing your thoughts and theories

Haha. Two reasons. I like how he said “you heard it here first...” decades after everyone else heard Fischer say it. Then, pretends no religious symbols are on the Dubrovnik while calling it a “bishop.” Ahh, someone needs a serious history lesson. Today’s youth...what a shame.
Thanks for the snippy comment, I said “you heard it here first folks” in a light, jokingly innocent way, the fact that you take remark to that is absolutely absurd, I’m sorry. Second, bishop is the name of the piece... what do you want me to call it, an elephant? Because that piece in western chess expired many hundreds of years ago. Thanks for watching though, even though you are “old” as you self proclaimed to be, I still have love for you. So yes you said it in a jokingly way , but it doesn't mean that all of us knew Fischer's favourite pawns or ever cared to find out ourselves .
