I’ve been playing, trying to, for 44 years. Way back, well, not all that long ago, if I wanted to learn a song it was a heck of a lot harder than clicking and searching the title with James James, or Privetrikker added. Sha-bang! There it is and like the record. Thanks James James Privetrikker! Very Much!
On October 15, 1971, Richard Nader's Rock 'n Roll Revival concert was given at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The playbill included many greats of the early rock era, including Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, and Bobby Rydell. Nelson came on stage dressed in the then-current fashion, wearing bell-bottoms and a purple velvet shirt, with his hair hanging down to his shoulders. He started playing his older songs like "Hello Mary Lou", but then he played the Rolling Stones' "Country Honk" (a country version of their hit song "Honky Tonk Women") and the crowd began to boo. While some reports say that the booing was caused by police action in the back of the audience, Nelson thought it was directed at him. Nevertheless, he sang another song but then left the building and did not appear onstage for the finale.
Thanks for the lesson, especially the bluegrass/country runs. Always thought this was a kinda corny song but then I ran into a high school buddy that told me he was drumming for Rick and his first gig was Madison Square Garden. He’s still missed.
holy harriet, ......said ozzy, ........ricky is back! ..... you sound like him ..... look like him...... i think you channel these artists......and thanks so much .... hello mary lou!
Thank you my mom is gonna love this. She was a ricky nelson nut. Saw him in elroy wisc before he died. Im gonna play it 4 her tomorrow when she comes over. For christmas
I originally heard this in an episode of "McCloud", which I now know was called "The new Mexican connection ". I didn't know what the song was called, but the chorus stuck in my mind, & eventually discovered what it was through a friend that had a record shop. He also told me the back story to the song. Cheers James! 😎🎶
Love your stuff, James. Listen to the video again though. He does hit the low/drop D in the run down. I think he's muting it with his thumb during the rest of the song,
I heard Klaus Voormann say once that Yoko was an exceptionally kind person, and John obviously thought so too, so I have always tried to see the best in her. If nothing else she inspired John to write some great stuff, and Oh Yoko is a kick-ass song
James James True enough, though Julian and Cynthia had lots of bad things to say about John also. Divorces can cause lots of hard feelings. I used to hate Yoko, in my old age I am trying to avoid hatred when possible, as I find it personally damaging. So I guess this would make my motives more selfish than altruistic. Still, All You Need is Love is not a bad goal to shoot for, at least for me. ✌️
@@k.c.8658 Whoa. I didn't say I hate her. I don't hate anyone. But she's not my kind of person. Go to a store that sells the John Lennon baby clothes collection and read the label. It tells this really cute story about how John was such a doting father to his son Sean, quit the music business to raise Sean. Yoko wrote that. She erased Julian from John's life -- because Julian doesn't have any of her DNA in him. And that's just one example of her pettiness (vindictiveness for his original sin of being born?) toward Julian. Don't get me started on the money. Still, setting all that aside, I don't hate Yoko or anyone else.
I finally watched this version ruclips.net/video/uAHR7_VZdRw/видео.html, and I’m hearing/seeing him ending those lead licks with the tuned down low D note.
Poor Ricky Nelson he went to a garden party and found out the hard way that he was no longer relevant. Songs like Peggy Sue had no meaning to those headlong into the Sexual Revolution. Sex Drugs and Rock and Roll was the theme of the day. Hopefully he made decent coin off of his last big hit.
That’s kind of opposite of what happened. It was a rock n’ roll revival show, and the audience wanted to hear oldies. Rick wanted to play some of his newer country rock songs, so the crowd booed him. They wanted Hello Mary Lou and Travelin’ Man.
YOKO had an influence on John Lennon in a bad way! I personally think John's greatest achievement was Julian Lennon! Great artist in his own right specially with the song "Saltwater". 😎

Interesting story. There was no divining the cultural state of this country just out of the 1960s. Lord knows

Ask Julian what a kind person she is.

A reporter asked Bob what song he like best that mentioned him in the lyrics, and he replied "Garden Party".
Dude where did you get that old cbs t shirt. I remember that wen they used to have the rudolph cartoon
I love the licks in this song and it would have taken me way longer to figure out without the help, thanks.
Hi James. Followed you for many years. What is the guitar you are playing I love the tone. Many thanks for your work 👍
That's a Martin D41. I actually prefer my Guild D55, but the Martin is a darn good guitar.
Crank em out dude!
always wondered if a D45 is twice as good as a J200? (twice the price etc)
A guitar is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. :)

Haha what’s your thoughts on Yoko?
Thank you

New to guitar...why are so many lessons using a C chord....does not sound like th3 song..curious why
I guess you could put a capo at the 2nd fret and play it with C shapes instead of D. But that's not how they did it on the recording.
