This is hands down the most underrated piece of star wars music next to cantina band 2 and lapti nek. all great pieces of music that we only hear fractions of in the films
Wow, this an amazing achievement in film scoring! The whole track, like every other track in any star wars soundtrack is extremely operatic full of opulent themes, different parts of the orchestra, string ostinatos and long sequences of tonality and variety. But this track is basically written to accompany the hopeful buildup to a fight, in it's hopeful brass, ostinate melodies to build up tension and militaristic percussion, and after that, a hopeless slaughter. A fight that cannot be won by the good guys. And that he represents in a very frightening way. He uses stinging, roaring, ripping brass. Hard hitting piano and string cords, creepy themes and atonal harmonies. It's extremely intense, but also eery. Still, it has the operatic star wars feel That's an achievement in composition, orchestration and conducting which I haven't seen that often! John Williams is truly a Composer to be rivalled only by a few of his pears, like Goldsmith, but duplicated by hardly anyone.
1:20 Darth Vader : What is it, General? General Veers : My Lord, the fleet has moved out of lightspeed. ... Darth Vader : The Rebels are alerted to our presence. ... General Veers : He... he felt surprise was wiser... Darth Vader : He is as clumsy as he is stupid! ... General Veers : Yes, my Lord.

To this day there has never been another scene in a movie that blows me away like the battle of hoth. Honestly there have been many great movies but this will always be my absolute favorite scene of a movie. Even owning the films on Blu ray I still watch empire everytime it is on TV . I always thought The Battle over Coruscant can never be beaten but I am wrong. This is by far the best battle music in the entire franchise involving two opposing armies and their weapons, aside from Luke using his lightsaber to damage the AT-AT but this is overall the best. I have spoken.
This will always make me think of some of my fondest childhood memories: Taking down AT-ATs in LEGO Star Wars.
