“Oh be still my beating heart” - because yesterday when I was young: white kid shoes, white tights and black dresses with white lace collars. Thank you.💐💐💐💐💐
I hope they come back too! I remember there was one in my local Westfield... to be fair whenever I walked past there was never anyone in there shopping so I can see why they closed (I don't even think they were selling clothing anymore by this point, just bedding)
Thanks so much for this video. I was a total devotee of LA in the 80's. I had a closet full of her dresses, skirts, blouses, and sweaters. They were heavenly to wear. I decorated every room with LA fabrics, bedding, and soft furnishings. I even had a LA bathroom. It was English Country then, not Cottagecore. I used to look forward to each seasonal catalog, for fashion and decor, and saved them for many years. My only regret is that I didn't keep everything. It was a very special time and place that only Laura Ashley could have created. This is a lovely tribute. Thank you again.
As a young child my mother would dress us in Laura Ashley and Jessica McClintock frilly bibbed floral frocks with white stockings or little lace trimmed socks with darling buckled Mary Janes I hated it as a kid bc I felt very “young” at 14 still dressed this way. But looking back it is very darling
Wow what a surprise seeing Princess Diana at the L A factory in Carno, Wales. I saw her later when she visited my town, she had a small paint or dye splash on the skirt of that pale blue suit from her visit to the factory. Amazing to see her again. Bought a blue shirt style dress from their little shop in Shrewsbury not too far from Carno. It was expensive for me at the time, we papered two bedrooms in their blue twee flowery paper in late 70's. This video was excellent and spot on historically. Well done.
I agree that it's surprising they didn't take on a re-launch of their fashion line. So sad. This style is just the most beautiful, classic, flattering fashion. I hope cottagecore never loses its appeal. Do you think this is a fleeting fashion trend or will it stick around? I just found your channel, I immediately subscribed. You're so lovely 😊
I just saw on a sewing RUclips vlog from Jen's Sewing Room, that McCalls sewing patterns are selling reprints of their vintage Laura Ashley. One of my plans this summer is to make a sailor top, using pink and white polka dot fabric. Thanks for finding, and sharing all the Laura Ashley info.
I worked for Laura Ashley in the 80s the fabric was printed in house in Carno, a lot of the designs were inspired from the inside of old books and were over 100 years old so no copyright problems . I personally think the decline of Laura Ashley started when they floated the company which was the same time that she sadly died .
I have one of the velvet Christmas dresses but in red and I love it. I just got it and I’m pregnant so it doesn’t fit yet but I LOVE how beautiful it is
I had Laura Ashley bedding when I was in high school (early-mid 2010s). At the time the style was called shabby chic and it was very popular on Pinterest and Tumblr.
For my birthday my roommate took me to a local thrift store so o could pick a some things out. While I was there I found an amazing 1980s Laura Ashley dress it's ankle length, short butterfly sleeve, dress shirt like collar , covered buttons down to the natural waist and large pleats in the skirt, with a pocket on the right side. The dress is red, with creme orangish flowers. In the back the pleats get small when it comes to the basque waist, which sounds kinda weird it being in the back but wow, it makes my (one of the world's flattest) behind look great. Believe it or not it was only $20 (Canadian)
I adore the older Laura Ashley homewares. We bought two of the new sets and it shows that they have outsourced to China, it really just doesn't have the same quality of construction and material anymore (yet it's still quite expensive).
Love this,, sadly it all ended when she passed. 😌 As a 56 yr old I remember everything, including its last days in Australia in 2018, I believe it's back in 2022, but unfortunately it's not the same or as popular by demand sadly 😞, but im in love with it all.
Great video. Although I was a classic prep in the 80s, I wore nothing but Laura Ashley in the 1990s. I learned about Laura Ashley after watching the movie, Drop Dead Fred, where Phoebe Cates wears Laura Ashley dresses throughout the whole movie. The last dress I bought was in 2000. Then the Ft. Worth store closed. I wish I photographed me in all my Laura Ashley dresses. Opportunity missed. I also use to collect all their clothing catalogs. Wish I still had those too. Thanks for making this video.
Drop Dead Fred was one of my favourite childhood movies! I never made the connection that Phoebe was wearing Laura Ashley throughout the movie... makes me love it even more now! 😍 You definitely should have kept some those old catalogues as they're going for a pretty penny online now - I saw some being sold for $200+ !!
Seeing the lovely cottagecore top you're wearing here, maybe you could do a video on recreating Laura Ashley style outfits? I always love your videos where you put together outfit ideas for different aesthetics. Great content as usual❤
Good video! As a lover of Folk Music, I adored Laura Ashley clothes, esp in the early 70s, and I had a number of gorgeous skirts, blouses and dresses. BUT, I confess to most of them being bought "on sale" in Perth, West Aussie - bcoz, like you say, they have always been on the pricey side, and so, one needed a keen eye and eternal shopping vigilance, LoL!!! :) RjB
I loved this as it took me back to the 80's. I am Canadian and it was not as big here, but my husband is British and we would go back to England lots at that time. I got married in 81 and had a Laura Ashley wedding dress. Everytime we went back I got some Laura Ashley dresses or homewares. All this time later I still have all the Laura Ashley cataloges from the 80's. Such fun to look back at the memories!
I used to go to my local Laura Ashley store and it was like I was in a different world. I had so many dresses and home things, I just loved everything about it even the way it smelled
One Christmas many years ago (in the late 1980s), I got one of these sailor type dresses and I wore it to our Christmas party in school that year. This video made me think of that and all the other sailor type dresses my mom would wear back then.
I really enjoyed your video! One of my vintage Laura Ashley dresses was made in Hungary. I have seen some made in Ireland. I even have a Vintage Laura Ashley blouse that was made in the U.S.A. I have always loved her, and wanted to dress like this. Great Job on a beautiful video with all of the thought and research that went into it, and your beautiful smile!
Thank you for presenting the history of the brand. I've just bought a blazer from this company in Moscow's second hand store and wonder to know a history behind the name (I haven't heard it before). Your video was helpful enough.
Yes!!!❤ One of my mom's brands she loved. I forgot about it until u mentioned it in another video. Fond memories There's a similar brand called April Cornell that's kinda similar to Laura A.
LOVE that this video was recommended to me first thing when I logged in lol✨🙏🏾I'm always on the lookout for dresses and patterns from them but I alwaaays buy the cutest pajamas I see from the brand, and recently started buying the decor and knew nothing about the history 😮 Great video!
I would be intrested to know how is the fabric of your dresd compare to a Laura Ashley vintage one ? The vintage LA I have are sewn in high quality coton that is very soft and finely weaven. I dont see any fabric like that nowadays appart from Liberty wich is made in Italy mills.
I knowwww 🙈 I'm always striving to post more but then the videos end up taking way longer to put together than I initially plan! Really going to try and push myself to post more in the second half of this year... On that note - please let me know any video ideas that you would like to see! xx
I really loved the Laura Ashley look in the 80's but since I couldn't afford to buy an actual dress, I bought a couple of patterns and made my own versions. I still wish that Laura Ashley dresses still existed, with the longer waists that the prairie dresses evoked. I find that modern versions having a "natural waist" are too short waisted for my torso and are not very flattering.
I still love Laura Ashley. Patiently waiting for their comeback...
“Oh be still my beating heart” - because yesterday when I was young: white kid shoes, white tights and black dresses with white lace collars. Thank you.💐💐💐💐💐
We need to bring back the white tights, white shoes combo! 😍
@@FabSakker they would be magic on those legs of yours.
I adore Laura Ashley! So gorgeous.
Me too! Hopefully they make a comeback! 💐
I was very sad when the Laura Ashley stores closed down in Australia, I hope they come back.

Me too in EnZed

I was the maid of honor to my friend. She was married in Canada 1988. I bought and wore the dress pictured at 7:32 in burgundy. I loved that dress

My wedding reception dress in 1993 came from Laura Ashley. I loved her stuff. I was just too poor for everyday Laura Ashley.
Great video. Although I was a classic prep in the 80s, I wore nothing but Laura Ashley in the 1990s. Well now, either McCall's or Simplicity patterns are doing reissues of Laura Ashley patterns from the 70's and 80's.
Oh thank you thank you thank you!!! I was waiting for this video from you so much))) ❤️
I discovered Laura Ashley when I was 17. The intimates and loungewear are so cute
I just thrifted a vintage Laura Ashley bedding set from a local charity shop. They really are beautiful pieces.
According to a Laura Ashley documentary. Diana was not wearing a Laura Ashley skirt in the famous photo.
Oh interesting! Bit of a fashion myth then! Maybe it was Liberty print? x
You put so much work into these videos. A+. I was in my 20's in the 1980s. I loved the Laura Ashley stores so much. They were very pricy.
I used to go to my local Laura Ashley store and it was like I was in a different world. I had so many dresses and home things, I just loved everything about it even the way it smelled
Biggie Best in South Africa was also popular for home decor items, similar to Laura Ashley.
If Kate where's army pants and flip flop, I WHERE ARMY PANTS AND FLIP FLOPS! I simply don't make the rules.😅🥰
I had to read this aloud to figure out what you were trying to say. 🤦🏻♀️
ETA: where is a question for asking where a place is, you wear clothes.
Oh my god I love using the "army pants and flip flops line" like you did it's so iconic and hilarious

I love your fashion history lessons! Your videos are so well-researched. My mom totally rocked Laura Ashley in the ‘80s
This was such a fun video!! ❤❤

The photography reminds me a lot of loveshackfancy shoots 🩷
