    Just find a song in E. Worked four our old church organist at Trinity when it happened mid song service. And when it was time for the sermon, some trustee went and pulled the pipe like a dentist.

    The name of the piece at 17:22 is Dank Sei dir, Herr (Thanks be to thee) by Siegfried Ochs, composed in the style of or based on a tune by Händel. Xaver Varnus recorded it live in the Palace of Arts of Budapest on June 4th, 2006. This was the first solo organ recital in the history of the building. He called it Air by Händel. It's on RUclips

    Nice..... But..... I go often to Cologne cathedral concert series "Orgelfeierstunden" with international top level organists and was accustomed a lot higher skills there. Especially the festival toccata. I think, there's much more possible.

    • @michaelherring1944
      @michaelherring1944  4 года назад +3

      Thanks for sharing! But we're not at the Cologne Cathedral, are we? This is an organ undergoing restoration which is (currently) only about 53% complete. It's ridiculous to compare it to other famous organs in the world. These are not "concerts" in the strict sense, they are more "demonstrations" of the progress of the organ's restoration. They're also for public enjoyment and to help get the word out about the restoration. They still need millions of dollars to complete the restoration.

    • @JIMD6370
      @JIMD6370 3 года назад +2

      That's actually pretty mean spirited, these Recitals are here to show the progress, and all organists are top rated. Plus, as Michael said, you can't compare this organ to any other in the world.

      Danke Juergen, mal in Deutsch 😉
      Viele werden es nicht verstehen, habe schon ein paar mal die Kölner Orgel spielen dürfen. Und ehrlich gesagt, werden es Leute die so amerikanische Sichtweisen haben, nicht verstehen, das Instrument hat halt eine Geschichte und klingt wie eine Orgel wie ich sie mir vorstelle und trotzdem hat sie so viele Besonderheiten, dass sie immer wieder aufs Neue fasziniert. In Frankreich niemals, aber auch in wenigen Anderen Ländern würdest du orgeln wie die Midmer finden - warum ? Ganz einfach weil die ausschließlich dafür gebaut wurde die größte zu sein 😂 und was hat man damit erreicht? Millionen an Restaurierungskosten etc.
      Die Kölner Dom Orgel begnügt sich mit 144 Registern, was auch völlig reicht. Und trotzdem finde ich hat sie einen heftigeren Klang als die Passauer Domorgel. Man bedenk nur dass ja Kleis die Kölner gebaut hat, die sind nicht umsonst die besten Orgel-Bauer der Welt 😀
      Und die Kölner Domorgel hat einen unverwechselbaren Klang, einen Mix aus warmen aber auch klaren, sehr aggressiv klingenden Registern (wenn man ihnen Emotionen zuschreiben würde). Der Mix bei nahezu komplett ausgewählter Register ist einmalig und man findet so etwas nur ganz ganz selten auf dieser Welt wie ich finde 😌🙃

      Yes, cologne cathedral organ is colorful and if you hear a recording, it's one of that where you say "yes, that's cologne cathedral". It's interesting. 70 Cavaillé Coll stops for example are enough to compensate a 200 stops US Organ. That should not mean, that in the US are no interesting organs, but here, organs are another dimension. Take this magnificent isnard instrument of st maximin de la baume. You can search very very long to find something comparable in sound.
