Ever wonder what Yoshi is actually capable of eating? You might be surprised at some of the things Yoshi is able to devour! So let's see what's on his menu, shall we?
Note: I'm aware that Yoshi's tongue has glitched graphics in the castle segments, but the point of this video is to show off what Yoshi can eat, including things found in castles, so I'm not concerned about it.
Another note: There are a lot of annotations in this video. If they're going by too fast for you to read, just pause the video for as long as you need.

To reach this level, enter Yoshi's Island 1 as small Mario without Yoshi, and press up at the spot where you start the level. (There's an invisible small door there.)
NOTE: There's a room that contains Dino-Rhinos and Dino-Torches that I added to this level after making this video, since I had forgotten about Dino-Torches being edible at the time.
Feel free to comment, but just know that I dislike profanity. Any comments containing F-bombs and/or S-bombs will be eaten by Yoshi. Enough said. (In other words, they'll be deleted.)

Now I understand why Yoshi Aren't allowed into castle and fortress.
Actually, it's probably the other way around. The developers decided they were gonna have Yoshi be too scared to enter castles, fortresses, and ghost houses FIRST, THEN they decided that, since Yoshi shouldn't be there ANYWAY, they wouldn't change the Koopalings' et al "is this sprite edible?" bit from "yes" to "no" (well, it's probably more "is this sprite INedible?", because that would leave 0 for "it's edible", which is clearly the default state in this game).

This is one of your first videos I ever watched since last year.
All this yoshi eating made me think that the annotation at 2:57 said "Cake Story: Salad Zone" xP
Now I wonder if someone will make a game actually called "Cake Story", and if it'll have a "Salad Zone" that you have to traverse through on your way to the cake or something like that!
I think it does already exits. Its a modification for the game Cave Story. Cake Story = Cave Story Salad Zone = World 4 - Sand Zone
But its also not Yoshi Eating that makes you think about Sand Zone/Salad Zone. The music is the Sand Zone theme.

Oh and hey, I played this and realized that there is a Yoshi sprite on the first screen of every room. The problem with this, is that it will cause an invisible Yoshi to appear. If you put him on the first screen of the room, he will still spawn even if you are riding Yoshi, but he will be invisible. If he comes on screen after the room has loaded fully, and you already have a Yoshi, then he won't spawn at all. You might want to consider moving them a screen over or so, to prevent invisi-Yoshis.
Yoshi does not like eating chargin' chucks.

I didn't actually create that custom music. Someone else did. All I did was insert the music into a hack with an AddMusic program.
Did you know that if a Big Boo boss touches a sprite that's on Yoshi's tongue that Yoshi won't swallow immediately, it'll be recycled and can be used again?
Everything Yoshi eats gives Mario a coin except for Charging Chucks.

I know 3 of the other tracks were remixes of the NSMB Overworld Theme, the castle theme of Yoshi's Island and the battle theme for Final Fantasy VI

I did plan for most annotations as I went, but some of the annotations were made up afterwards. It tends to be this way for most of my annotated videos.
I guess I could've used enterable pipes. Oh, well. This works fine, though.
Also, I did try eating the other koopalings, but graphics were really mangled, and in addition, I couldn't make an exit from those rooms, so I decided not to include them.

Considering Yoshi CAN eat dolphins in the GBA version and the Japanese SNES version, then that's funny too.
I didn't think of that before, but yeah, I know that now. I guess that could kind of break the last room here...
Yoshi seems to have a cast-iron stomach or something, so there's no worrying about indigestion, even if he eats an explosion! But, how Yoshi is able to eat an explosion in the first place is beyond me.

Haha, but I bet some of the swaps would be hard to set up, even with Lunar Magic. For example, Banzai Bills and Big Boos can only spawn in slot 00, so you'd have to fill all the other slots to get the sprite you're using into that slot.
I can tell you put a lot of effort into creating this level for the purpose of this video... (And planning for annotations... or did you just make them up afterward?)
I think you should have used enterable pipes in the Wendy/Lemmy battles though, instead of teleport blocks.
(By the way, all of the Koopalings can be eaten, and none of them will end the level if eaten. Mario on Yoshi will die in the Morton/Roy/Ludwig battles though, unless you make the entrance a pipe up / pipe launch.)

3:11 If I remember correctly, it is possible to eat the hole that the mole leaves on the wall.
Actually, no. The hole the mole leaves behind is not something can be eaten by Yoshi. However, you can eat the mole's dirt before it fully emerges, and if you do so, it won't leave a mole hole behind.
Re-watching this... In addition to the Dino-Torch, I believe you also forgot to have Yoshi eat a few Rexes. (What's with leaving out the dinos? You could even have included a Reznor room.)
Also, Yoshi could have swallowed one of the Koopa shells. Of course, that does take time... Mario could have been playing around with coin blocks or something while waiting for Yoshi. Then Yoshi would decide to spit out the rest of the shells because he's too hungry to waste time. :-)
I would assume that baby Yoshi can eat the same things that a regular Yoshi can, though I'm not 100% sure. And no, baby Yoshi cannot be eaten, thankfully!

I finally just looked over this level again, and there actually was a Rex already in the level (Yoshi eats it at about 3:56 in this video). I still need to add the Mini Dino Rhinos, though. I'll probably just make one small room dedicated to them.

Aw, nuts! The big Dino isn't edible, but the small one is! Somehow I forgot to include them while making this level!

If there are enemies that I didn't include in this level, it's usually because I already knew that they weren't edible (except for the Dino Torches, which I did overlook by accident here). Dry Bones and Bony Beetle aren't edible, so they're not included. (Oh, and if the vertical Podoboo was edible, I might very well have included it, despite the graphical glitches it would cause to Yoshi!)
Be carefull! If Yoshi becomes too fat, he'll not be so cute & he'll not be able to run or transport Mario! ❤

I've been thinking about updating this level to include the sprites I forgot. I'll probably do that in the future.
Also, at least in the SNES version, Yoshi can't eat the smiling coins. Maybe he can in the GBA version, but I don't know.

dang yoshi must be really unhealthy did you see him eat the bombs and spike balls? bombs are pure gunpowder how is yoshi not dead.... also when he ate the post exploding bomb-omb he must have a stomach made of steel cause when he ate it he was not hurt when it exploded inside him XD
Yeah, Yoshi's stomach is perfectly capable of handling all this stuff.

Actually, that might make an interesting video-- Yoshi eating every sprite in the game, without any ASM changes. (Not sure if it would get boring after a while though...)

I tend to do that a lot, since it doesn't automatically refresh the Overworld Editor when you load a new ROM, so it's possible that's what happened. Unless you patched this ROM onto your other hack or something; idk.

New pit hack idea: Yoshi Abuse!
In addition to failing to show Dino Rhinos aren't edible, but Dino Torches/Mini Rhinos are, you also forgot to put Dry Bones, Bony Beetle, Thwomp, Thwimp, and Grinder in the "castle" section (I'd say something about vertical Podoboos, but those are actively dangerous to use in conjunction with Yoshi; in addition to the glitched graphics, there also seems to be the possibility of freezing IIRC). I'd guess Thwomp, Thwimp and Grinder aren't edible, but Dry Bones and Bony Beetle may be.

Do you think that maybe sometime you could create a new version of this level, where you make sure to include the sprites you missed (there's also keys and Yoshi wings; I suggest scrolling through all of the sprites and objects just in case), and maybe include a few other things relating to Yoshi (avoid time up death glitch possibly)? I'd certainly find it interesting.
(Also, I was pretty sure Yoshi could eat the smiling coins from the pink-berry cloud... maybe it was only in the GBA version?)

No it didn't. It was glitchy because since Yoshi isn't meant to be in castles, his tongue is glitchy. Read the description.

This is actually really cool and knowledgeable. Just one thing. Fire flowers can destroy those ice blocks we all thought were useless? I tried it, but it didn't work. Is that a custom block or something? 4:11

Yoshi cannot eat a moon. His tongue doesn't interact with moons at all.

When I applied the patch to "Super Mario World (U) [!].smc filesize=513KB", the music is terribly glitched.
EDIT: Turns out that snes9x 1.60 doesn't handle your hack correctly. I went to Emulation > Hacks, and set Seperate Echo Buffer from RAM, and that did the trick.
Yeah, my v0.23 hack uses an older AddMusic that tends to not cooperate with more accurate emulators. At least you found a way to make it work, though.
The real question is, can Yoshi eat Mario?
Not in this game, I don't think.
But what can baby Yoshi eat? And can he be eaten?
Of course, there's other enemies you forgot, though I'm wondering if the sprites per level limit got in the way, considering how many enemies and other sprites there are in the level already.
