    As an ex-city dweller (including Paris and Brussels), now a "refugee" in the countryside, I now simply avoid all cities anywhere unless I really have to go. And now that we're free to do it (grown up children) my wife and I only travel off season, but still avoiding hot touristic spots at all cost.

    Thank you for highlighting this problem. As visitors and tourists we have a responsibility to consider the people who are trying to live their lives in these places. Yes, tourism brings benefits, but over tourism destroys all that and more!

      @chriszavos Месяц назад +3

      Cruise ship tourists are obviously not counted, they count only those who stay overnight. Mykonos and Santorini are way more packed during the summer season due to cruise ship tourists and they are thinking of imposing limitations to improve the quality of the vacations of the normal tourists who leave a lot more money than just a fridge magnet and a sandwich.

    Reykjavik ? LOL. Seriously ? This video is comparing apples with pears. Amsterdam for example has a lot of tourists. I've haven't been in Dublin for a while, but im sure they have their share. But that's not even close to the amount of people flooding into cities like Florence & Venice or some Greek islands. So saying that Tallin & Reykjavik have mass tourism problems feels a bit far fetched.

      @spiritualanarchist8162 Месяц назад

      @@kerrym5424 The ratio is the whole point i'm objecting to. In for example Venice it's almost a million tourists a day on 50.00 inhabitants . If a thousand people visit Reykjavik it may feel bit more crowded because it's rather a small city. In Amsterdam it's a few hundred drunken a-holes making a lot of trouble is a menace, but most tourist are welcomed . I'm not saying over tourism isn't a problem. The problems differ and are rather complex .Not just 'too many people come to one place '.

    I understand the burden it puts on the local residents but at the same time, it's also allowed for local businesses to grow and thrive. It's definitely a conundrum but how would the locals feel if it suddenly dried up? You can't blame the tourists when there are so many ads and commercials promoting and encouraging people to travel. The underlying problem is not the tourists but the mismanagement of local governments who don't put a cap on short-term rentals and foreign real estate investments. The money isn't staying in the local economy.

    There's no German city on this list. If you are into classical music, especially German classical music, the German cities of Leipzig, Hamburg, and Berlin all have excellent performance venues and "orchestras of cultural significance" as their music union Unisono calls them. The German government helps support 129 such orchestras.

    Dubrovnik you are a bit exaggerating, because it is not so bad as you describe it. Nowadays the city council only allows 2 cruisers per day, and mostly they are gone by 17h. There can be crowds, especially on rainy days where the beach people come to town, but this is far from being the chaos you are describing. Have you ever been to Dubrovnik? I doubt it.
