When he grabs the officers gun, and goes to kill himself only to fail because a bullet was not chambered was INSANE
This became a meme on twitter
“Most rewatchable scene”
Eventually every film set in Massachusetts will be on the Rewatchables
Michelle Williams’ “my kids are in there” scene is one of the most memorable I’ve ever seen and STILL think about
She is so good in this. I know in real life she went through losing her fathers child in Heath Ledger unexpectedly
It is a surprisingly rewatchable movie. If you can get over the whole huge mistake Lee made, the rest of the movie around it is spectacularly effective and memorable.
Need a new podcast for the 1 timeables this is too sad to rewatch but Michelle Williams and Casey Affleck are so damn good in this.
I'd even enjoy a 'one timeables' month. Movies you can only watch once, but they're great. (Ie schindler's list)
This is elite podcasting, this is top level -- it doesn't get better.
If a snuff film was in the cable rotation for 6 months, would Bill eventually pick it for the pod?
"Ya know, it's been on cable a lot lately! You get sucked in!"
Love the thumbnail. It suggests: this movie is comedy gold, baby!
They should have called this movie "Watching paint dry"
Ok dude😂 you're so transparent
Never heard of this movie
It's awful
This but no Greenbook or crazy rich Asians??????
Nobody has ever rewatched this
To each their own, so I understand when some people see a emotionally devastating movie and say “I will never watch this again”. For me, however, it feels really good to revisit those. Knowing how it ends, regardless of how sad it is, really improves the experience for the next views. I am always hypnotized by Manchester by the Sea. Everything about it, specially the acting, makes me feel so much… and its a good thing, ya know? its a good thing to feel something powerful when you watch a movie.
"Hey you know what I just can't get enough of rewatching, Manchester By The Sea"
- overheard in a psyche ward
This is by far and away, my favorite film from the past decade. I recommend this one to everyone I meet. Thank you guys!!
What a soul crushing movie. Excellent but rewatchable? I wouldn't say so. Along the same lines of Requiem for a Dream. One and done gems.
look, manchester by the sea is a great fucking movie, but Bill has gotta be drawing movies out a hat to avoid doing Pulp Fiction at this point. 30th anniversary this year, no better time!!!!!!
edit: sean's shirt 👀👀👀👀👀
This movie got a Rewatchables before Carlitos Way, Scarface, or Tron
The thing and Apocalypse now*
First 2 you named I’ve been waiting on since the beginning
Or pulp fiction
Tron 😂
@@dirtmcgirt757 I mean… 🤷♂️
Real question: Did anyone else shed a few tears just thinking about some of the scenes as they were describing it? Like holy shit this movie is powerful. Cant even go through a podcast about it without getting emotional.
Can we get pulp fiction and scarface?
Hey guys, just discovered the channel and loving it, slowly working my way through the old vids but have to ask: would love to hear you guys discuss Romancing the Stone! Feel like it qualifies but could be wrong. Cheers.
Thank you for making this a Rewatchable. I saw this movie yesterday after listening to the Pod. i should had watch it sooner, great film!
So I assume In the Bedroom has to be on the list for this month.
Salo and Begotten first.
Y’all need to do ‘The Wrestler’ for Rock Bottom Month!
there's no doubt moonlight winning best picture over la la land and Manchester by the sea wont age well in 10 years
wrong
I loved that you picked this as a rewatchable. This film is the ultimate horrifying rewatchable.
“I can’t beat it” is one of my favorite gut wrenching movie quotes
It’s no Madame Web, but it’ll do
These MFs really putting all these on RUclips huh? 😂 now do the big picture episoded
For me, it’s the part when he pleads and screams “PLEASE!” in the police station to let him kill himself with the cop’s gun.
I hear that scream in my head every few months ever since seeing the movie years ago. Brutal
Speaking of Michelle Williams greatness in small but impactful roles, when is the Rewatchables gonna do Shutter Island (a movie that is better with successive viewings)?
Hopefully after they do The Ninth Configuration.
They need it!
The thing I find fascinating is that if this was a slower year and some of these films were pushed back as far as release date goes six to eight months this film would be way more recognized than it is currently. Any other year this would have sincerely won three more academy awards at least. Doubt it still woulda won best picture or director but supporting actress (she’s been nominated like 3 times by now at least) and cinematography? (dudes right; looks wonderful). That said though? definitely not editing all the accents would hold up if they had a better editor imo.
I can't even listen to a podcast about the movie let alone watch it again. Hit me that hard.
Never fails to make me cry. The only thing that bothered me is the over-reliance on melodramatic music. It would have been even more devastating without the classical score...Although it is already heart breaking as it is. Casey gives one of the greatest performances I have ever seen...my favourite, possibly. But every actor was brilliant in this...
Midnight Cowboy winning Best Pictures was a game changer. La La land was fun but won't have legs- too derivative.
Bonus points: Kenneth Lonnergan is married to Gerri Kellman!
For my money, this is so clearly the best film from 2016.
Has Bill done the Machinist yet? If not, please do!
Atleast the Bridge 9 banner was recognized.
Tom Cruise lives rent free in Bill's head
Rewatchable? I will NEVER watch this again.
RewatchABLE, not rewatched!
I can accept the 'schindler's list' argument of 'it's a really deep movie that you have to see at least once' (even if I don't agree with it) for manchester by the sea. But would I revisit it multiple times? Absolutely not.
I think Schindler’s list is rewatchable
Why the fuck is Mandos helmet in Bills office🤣🤣
The people complaining about this being on The Rewatchables are soft as baby shit
They address all that in the first 2 minutes and yeah this movie is just so real, lived in, and often funny
The people commenting this are the ones affected the most by it and now trying to act tough. It's so transparent and obvious.
1:13:48 - Bill's continuous refusal to admit defeat in the Tom Cruise vs. Tom Hanks debate (as heard in the Catch Me If You Can podcast) is quite something. Sean really scarred him there. 😂
He lives rent-free in his head ..
BTW, CRUISE is way more suitable to play a shitty dad than Hanks ..
He did it in War of the Worlds
Unforgiven, tombstone
1:08:26 to 1:08:56 might be my favourite 30 seconds in the Rewatchables of all time
Fennessey about had a stroke when Bill trolled that he didn’t know Inherent Vice was a movie😂
Rewatchable Trailers please!
This is such a tragic, rock bottom movie and I want to listen to Bill's deep take on it but I can't get "I AM CORNHOLIO I NEED TP FOR MY BUNGHOLE" right beside him
You guys totally missed the opportunity to talk about “Promised Land”- the Krasinski/Damon movie they made with Gus Van Sant. It’s super rewatchable and kind of feels like it belongs in the Good Will Hunting family.
Is it just me or would Logan actually be perfect for a rock-bottom movie, like Manchester by the Sea I kind of never want to see it again but also completely love it. Logan is perhaps not as perfect but it really is completely unique as a superhero movie and feels like just a straight-drama, thriller or neo-Western
It’s a phenomenal movie and I completely agree it’s actually almost great rewatch since you can brace for the heartache scenes. The chemistry between Lee and Patty is phenomenal. It’s beautifully shot and just so worth a rewatch. Plus sometimes a sad movie is needed to rewatch.
I rewatch this movie every year, probably. That ending is such a hopeful ending and there’s a lot of beauty in this movie for those willing to give it a chance!
Hey guys, just wanted to add a little context on bill-and his wife’s take that they wouldn’t have left the house without the kids. When Casey is talking to the cops and walking through the events, he says that the fireman pulled her out because she passed out downstairs. I took that as meaning she probably fainted due to the smoke inhalation and woke up after the furnace had already blown and was screaming to let them know kids were still inside.
you missed Lonesome Jim. THAT was the practice for Manchester. Not gone baby gone.
Masterclass dodging the me too by Bill. "I don't know if we want to get into Casey and the me too" Bill "we'll get to that later". Later " Casey had the me too stuff but we already talked about that earlier". Bravo sir
Rewatchable movies for me: Cristopher Nolan's & Hot Fuzz.
I’m a millennial and I watch movies to be sad so I didn’t know what Craig said was a thing for gen z
Not sure i'd rewatch this one, but i loved "Margaret" and have seen it several times. His characters are so flawed and real.
Mulholland Dr. also didn’t win best picture and it’s the best picture of the 21st century, IMO.
It wasn't even nominated for best pic. It's a film that's very difficult to grasp on first viewing which certainly didn't help.
Please do Days of Thunder
Love the new category 😂
Best American film in a decade.
Used to be one of my favourite podcasts. Wow has it fallen off. Manchester by the Sea is as unrewatchable as it gets.
Million Dollar Baby is not rewatchable (Eastwood/Freeman stuff alone is gold), but Manchester By the Sea is? That's insane.
Because million just sucks balls.
I prefer watching the ending of the mist on repeat
Chris Ryan is creepy af
Huh? That’s random
Hey y’all, these last two weeks… What’s the deal? These are not Rewatchables. Shot Caller? Possibly the most obscure movie y’all have ever presented? You still have a lot of good movies you haven’t done yet. Love the podcast but…
About time Bill got with the century and is putting this show on RUclips. Bizarre he just ignored this audience for 10 years.
The shows been on here for 5 years at least.
Add this to Bill's list of terrible football takes, Manchester by the sea is "rewatchable".
Children of Men may be the best movie of the 21st century - resplendent in sorrow, layered in complexities, incredible in the way it is shot and framed with possibly the best continuous shot live action sequence (the attack on the car from the woods) ever done. It is a magnificent piece of cinema based on the amazing source material of the novel. Clive Owen is astonishing as the disillusioned Theo, and Michael Caine as Jasper is just perfect. Simply put, it is so impactful, bleak, and yet hopeful all at once.
I’m more than happy to watch the guys talk about this movie….BUT it’s only rewatchable in that it’s a good movie and good movies are worth watching more than once
The most boring movie ever. Nothing happens. It's barely a step above staring at a wall.
Yeah, dude you already Commented how tough and masculine you are. We get it. Maybe watch it?
You are one of the biggest reasons movies suck now
manchester by the mf'ing sea? wtf? i will rewatch Heat or Alien rewatch boefore this limp-wrist shit.
Salo and Begotten next.
