It really is man, I could go on for hours about synchronicity and Carl Jung. How I prayed for angels to help me, and if what I was hearing and keeping my thoughts on during my hard times to God if I was okay, and He wouldn’t think anything less than me. I remember hearing hallucinations, and thoughts of verbal hallucinations telling me to kill myself or kill others as a martyr. (This was during the withdrawal and before was the deusion) keep in mind my faith is not me being delusional, but me trying to get help and reconcile with God. I promised Him I would never give into the darkness and hurt myself or others. Even if I had to stay awake for hours, I would be thinking about Jesus, until about 2 weeks later. I was still heartbroken and it was time for me to go back to the psychiatrist. I was 100% honest with him. I told him that I wouldn’t hurt myself or others, till this very day. I keep that promise to God and will continue I hope until the day I die. I remember very vividly after that appointment we were at the chemist, I was tapping my feet up and down whilst standing, putting my fingers in my ears, or I would poke my nose and lift my hands up just in case I wasn’t going to have a stroke or something. It was just horrible experience. I wasn’t addicted per se. But I think I became physically dependent on them since I had this delusion of feeling that withdrawal or side effects. You learn as you get older that heathy eating, sleep, family and connections are the most important thing. I like to say drugs are fake love, they don’t love you back. Only friends, family (not always) but definitely God can indeed fill that void, that hole I felt during those times.

I used to be one of those people who saw sleeping 8-9 hours as a waist of time and I loved to stay up super late and get 5-3 hours a night and work, complete projects, read, etc. But I'm telling you if you get 8-9 GOOD hours of sleep a week you will learn how much of a machine you can be through the day.
Absolutely agree. Now add just 20 minutes or more of cardio a day and mindfulness meditation and you'll be in the zone. No more letting your mind wander wasting energy ruminating on the past or worrying about the future.
But the real questions is. How many years did you “lose” by being asleep. Does one allow you to experience life for a greater amount of time? Man I am high.
I experienced REM sleep rebound recently. I had a solid 7-10 nights where I rememberd my dreams pretty detailed for several days in a row. I had been without alcohol for about 2 weeks for the first time in a few years to be honest. It's feelt so freaking weird, but now I understand why it happened.
Ha ha. Typical defence from stoners. Let me pose this question, if it robs you of your REM sleep which is highly important (pardon the pun) how is that not detrimental to your overall well being? Multiple professionals I’ve listened to say that it is of utmost importance to dream. Without them, we can suffer all kinds of negative psychological breakdowns. So, if said substances don’t allow for it, what do you think the long term implications are? Btw, coming from a family in medicine, I’ve been told that this is a typical defence for most people. Examples being, “Weed doesn’t harm lungs or mental capacity” (witnesses multiple cases of emphysema in strictly weed smokers, major mental health issues, etc..) The great thing, like most other similar situations (anti-vac) is that the professionals don’t care what excuse you’ve made up to justify your reasoning, the results speak for themselves. Also, I’m not naive enough to believe that there isn’t benefits. Couple things to consider; • Smoke earlier in the evening so the side effects wear off enough to allow for REM sleep during the night • Always try and find the “cleanest” way to consume if you consume a lot. An example would be a vaporizer, which are expensive but in the long term, do help to mitigate all the smoke inhaled. • If you’re a heavy user, figure out why that is. We didn’t evolve as a species to live in this technological age because we sat around baked out of our minds 24/7 “Everything in moderation, including moderation”
So is this why when you sleep somewhere else to wake up early asf but when you sleep in your own bed you sleep in late as hell ? Makes a lot of sense now.
I have been waking up after about 5 hours of sleep for the past couple of months. Around 2 am I wake up, then fall asleep about 30-45 min later for about 3 more hours. During those last 3 hours I ALWAYS have nightmares of some kind, I can't explain it at all.
I caught myself dreaming while I was awake this morning. It’s weird, because you know you’re not sleeping and you can hear stuff around you, your eyes are just barely shut yet you are having visions that present like dreams, though you’re not quite in that really deep REM sleep. It’s funny, that I’ve listen to this this evening or I should say the next morning because it’s 3 AM here on the East Coast. Because while it was happening this morning and when I woke up directly after it, I was thinking about how I was able to dream yet I wasn’t yet really asleep. Very cool. Thank you for this. Joe, if you ever have DJs on your show. I would love to come on and just talk about everything and anything with you. I’ve never done any psychedelic drugs. I would love to come on your show and do my first LSD or mushroom trip. Everyone says it’s life-changing. I don’t care what anybody else thinks, I think you’re one of the smartest people on this earth. I can listen to you talk about anything.Thank you for a great show.
The entire part about Marijuana is 110% me. I've been a chronic smoker for about 5 years, I get plenty of sleep but I never feel rested, I feel as tho I'm 30 and I'm only 20. My energy in general is shit especially with physical exercise. I can't remember the last time I had dream. I have been thinking about quitting lately, and I think this video is just what I needed thank you 🙏
Hay I smoke almost every day 80% of the day ....and this explains so much about the daytime dream fog feeling .. and maybe why I love sleep so much ..I always say it's the best drug there is sleep.
As someone who has personally smoked marijuana everyday for the past 5 years (even heavier in my last 3) since June 2016 till May 2021 I can personally say this - I did not dream at all during that time. Even before I started smoking I didn’t have dreams. Only just a few here and there. But since I have quit back in May of this year I have had dreams every, single, night…. Since the day I quit. Some nightmares but the majority are just regular dreams. Some dreams I’ve had twice already. It’s very strange. I wonder when if at all they will ever go away. I wish for the day I stop dreaming.
I absolutely love this podcast, let’s do another one on sleep Joe! But the question is, if you’re getting three hours a night of really solid quality REM, versus eight hours of hours up-and-down, off and on and in and out and you’re still only getting 3 to 4 hours of quality REM don’t they equate to one another in the physical and physiological results?
When my kids were first born, I would be half asleep at night because I would be worried about them. Even the smallest noise would wake me up instantly.
Alex lorimer more like figuring out life is a living dream XD we are god in god’s mind, in his incredible, unbreakable dream. Even satan is god in black clothing. All divinity. It’s all the same immaterial, chaotic matter under everything.
As a person who has difficult for falling asleep, i noticed when i get a straight 3:30/4h-wake up do something quick and then plus 2hours, i feel great. And even sometimes a straight 4h-5h of sleep makes me brand new. I truly believe saying "people should have 7-8 hours" or whatever, is like claiming EVERYONE should drink 2L of water. But what about a person 12inch tall and other like shaquille o'neil, should they have the same quantity of water? I believe it is proportional to one's methabolism.
Feeling good and being good is a bit different mate get yourself checked out before the feels great turns into feels horrible with health problems if you havent already
I smoked heavy for 5 or more years, everyday and night and when I just recently stopped 2 months ago I have thee most realistic and often dreams I've ever had. I sometimes dream like 5 dreams a night. And I usually remember most of them
Been having that many dreams my whole life. Take a look at my page there’s a video about dreams. Sounds like you’re one of the lucky ones who remembers their dreams. Def check it out if you have a chance.
REMEMBER TO SLEEP BOYS N GALS. I used to sleep 5-6 hours a day for like 5 years thinking its a waste of time. 1 year ago i got diagnosed with epilepsy due to exhaustion and stress. Now sleeping 7-9 hours a day and feeling much better. Sleep is so important to you that most of us dont even know it.
I'm a chronic pot smoker, female, age 32 - started at 17 and both parents stoners too. I got an Oura ring and it's fascinating. I'm fully functional - a writer, work 60+ hours a week, work out, eat right etc I go through phases where REM just forces its way in. I also get more deep sleep than most people. The research needs to happen because pot and booze have a totally different impact on sleep. I was a heavy drinker for a few years and that would have killed me. The pot plays with shit a little but I wake up every morning around 7 feeling fresh as a daisy. Some days I wake and bake others i'll leave it til later, but I regularly go all day. Most days I get around 2 hours deep and 30 mins REM - but then i'll go through week long phases of 2 hours REM and 30 mins deep. It's regular and cyclical because my body seems to have adapted. I think some of us have a genetic tolerance for pot. I've stopped smoked for long periods before but just prefer smoking. I wanna study neuroscience in the future and find out more about this shit.
You can, eat Omad (one meal a day), and or change your food to a higher vibrational food, basically eliminate those foods that drain or draw energy from the body. Exercise, being in great physical shape increases your energy, so think of your muscles as producing more power, more force, producing more for less, more oxygen, better circulation. When you are fit, clean and are not tired from little to some physical activity then your body requires less shut down time. An example of when i was in my 30's i ate for 6 months, nothing but raw fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, ect,. after about 3 months of that i was sleeping 4-5hrs a day i had so much freaking energy. The other thing is increase your testosterone naturally. So dont wish for it, research, think, if you really want it, it can be done, i been there, also the key is quality of sleep, lack of sleep will cost you energy, not maintaining a proper sleep algorithm basically going to bed at the same time every night or day whenever you sleep, consistency makes a big difference!
I smoked weed, in large quantities, for YEARS, and I'd tell people, "I don't dream. I don't dream." And, they'd ALWAYS reply with, "EVERYONE DREAMS!" So, I actually thought maybe they were right, and I just didn't remember. But, then I quit smoking weed in 2008, and since then, I have been dreaming nightly & clearly able to remember my dreams. So, I'm pretty sure Joe is right. Weed-smokers (habitual/heavy smokers) don't dream. It's just 8 hours of PITCH BLACKNESS in their mind.
You trip while youre awake so you dont trip while youre asleep but normally people “trip” while theyre asleep in the form of dreams. And live life on earth sober
I think cannabis is one of the most benign substances known to man. I can meet people at a compromise with a rare population of users developing psychosis but whether or not that’s the cause is currently unknown and it seems to me fairly unlikely. It’s a mostly beneficial plant in terms of health with THC’s intoxication posing only the risks of any other intoxicant (with many severely limited). Even smoking it is a much less big of a deal than you’d think. Its truly amazing to me that it’s not legal everywhere. And yet, I find myself incredibly infuriated with a number of users who claim it’s completely harmless. It’s like they’ve seen too much propaganda and have swung the other way as though it has zero negative effects. Yes it can negatively effect sleep, that doesn’t mean you’re unhealthy or you shouldn’t use it, but accept the facts guys
Not really. I'm a pothead but I still dream. It's more complex than we think it actually is, and amount smoked and frequency seem to play a monumental factor.
Not glorifying it but I was a meth addict for 10 years and on average spend 5 days awake and 2 days asleep and I can distinctly remember having vivid dreams while awake and getting legitimately confused on what was real and what wasnt. Sleep deprivation is no joke!!

You sound like idiot
Yea I noticed when I use to smoke weed i never dreams but now that I don’t smoke I dream crazy
This is actually an alcohol induced dream Joe had of talking to a young Chuck Norris So vivid it appeared on RUclips.

I cured my homosexuality by getting 8/9 hours of sleep each night.

'Did you ever use dmt and go to sleep?'
you're basically in a living dream when you smoke dmt because that's what your brain releases in rem sleep
😂
Dmt gets metabolized rather quickly in your body so you’ll be able to sleep shortly after it’s wore off.
This aint funny

That’s called a lucid dream
This guy doesn't need a pillow to sleep he already has one on the top of his head :-)
Ha! It does look soft.
Stop smoking
Work graveyard shift 50 hours a week... you'll sleep anywhere and any how.

I wish our bodies did not need so much sleep, we could get a lot more done.
@@Gunter_Severloh I eat healthy, mostly organic, and been as fit as one can be for over 30 years now.
Sleep to Humans is very similar to De-fragging a hard drive.
I smoked weed, in large quantities, for YEARS, and I'd tell people, "I don't dream. I don't dream."
And, they'd ALWAYS reply with, "EVERYONE DREAMS!"
So, I actually thought maybe they were right, and I just didn't remember.
@@mysteretsym Haha, that's one-helluva perspective.
I smoke weed(very low quantities) and get dreams almost every night. I remember 20% of my dreams Especially towards the morning.

Probably cuz the lack of REM sleep.
Not really. I'm a pothead but I still dream. It's more complex than we think it actually is, and amount smoked and frequency seem to play a monumental factor.
My question is why does the brain seek dream sleep?
We don't know. We don't know why we need sleep at all.
Process information, rest the mind from thinking all the time, it is simply a period of rest.
@OllieML you're very uninformed, bc the brain activity while sleaping doesn't differ from awake state!

Not glorifying it but I was a meth addict for 10 years and on average spend 5 days awake and 2 days asleep and I can distinctly remember having vivid dreams while awake and getting legitimately confused on what was real and what wasnt. Sleep deprivation is no joke!!
